Chapter 8: Difficulty: A handful of fresh snow, melted by warmth, then crumpled. Part 1
Candy Heart’s cold statement, “sent to the wrong person,” caused Lu Zhi’s brain to short-circuit for a second. Immediately after, a rage of being played surged in his chest.
What the hell does Tang Xingye want to do?
Dating Pei Lian on one side, and sending him this kind of photo on the other? Alpha instincts screamed to tear apart this layer of hypocritical disguise, but reason forced him to calm down.
Lu Zhi: [?]
Lu Zhi: [You were chatting with someone else just now?]
The dormitory lights had been turned off, leaving it in pitch darkness. The bed curtains blocked out external gazes, constructing a safe and free space. The cold light of the phone illuminated Tang Xingye’s face, making those clear eyes appear even more indifferent.
Tang Xingye felt it was too disgusting, so he retracted the photo. Seeing Lu Zhi’s reply, which clearly carried emotion, he sneered.
Usually, he ignores my messages, but send a leg photo and he replies immediately.
He decided that Lu Zhi was just a pervert driven mad by his desire for an Omega. On the surface, he pretended to be polite, gently refusing Omegas and saying he had no plans for romance for the time being, but in reality, he was desperate.
What gentle, considerate, generous top student? He’s just a lecher!
But Tang Xingye couldn’t figure it out. If Lu Zhi is really a thirsty maniac who wants an Omega, why refuse them?
Is it because of his special family background, or some other reason?
Regardless of his difficulties, this couldn’t cancel out the fact that Tang Xingye was disgusted by Lu Zhi. He thought for a moment and replied:
[There is no one else, Big Brother. I sent you a message, but your reply was a bit cold, so I thought you didn’t like me.]
[You are my first friend on ‘Sweet Potato’ (Di Gua). Except for you, I haven’t chatted with anyone else.]
Afraid Lu Zhi wouldn’t believe him, Tang Xingye recorded a video, displaying his message list and following list. It was clean; Lu Zhi was the only one, and pinned to the top.
Lu Zhi: “…”
Candy Heart said “sent wrong,” not “sent to the wrong person.” (Note: Ambiguity in Chinese phrasing).
He licked his canine teeth. He typed and deleted the text in the chat box, finally just sending a period.
Tang Xingye looked at “The other party is typing…” at the top of the chat box, a bit puzzled. Is Lu Zhi disappointed?
Candy Heart: [Brother, are you angry? Was I too noisy? Then I won’t send these things anymore.]
Lu Zhi: [That’s not what I meant.]
Lu Zhi rubbed his forehead. Candy Heart immediately acted like a puppy that received a reward, messages popping out one after another:
[Then what does Brother mean~]
[Is it that you actually really like me sending messages to you?]
The burning sensation in his gland became more obvious. He stared at the messages jumping in the chat box. The black and white text seemed to materialize, like tiny electric currents climbing up his spine.
[I sent the photo just now to let Brother see the bug bite bump, but I was afraid of disturbing Brother.]
Lu Zhi paused, recalling the details of the photo. It seemed there was indeed a small red mark on the inner thigh.
[Have you seen a doctor?]
Candy Heart: [Brother, don’t worry. I’ve already applied medicine. It’ll be fine in two days.]
Lu Zhi sent him a red packet (money transfer).
Tang Xingye didn’t understand what this meant. Is this to pay for my medical bills?
His finger hovered over the screen, alarm bells ringing in his mind. Lu Zhi wouldn’t want to use money as leverage to hold over me, right?
He remembered those cases in legal programsâan Alpha transfers money to an Omega, then turns around and sues for fraud. Not only can they get the money back, but they can also saddle the Omega with a criminal record.
If he didn’t take the money, it was at most a prank; the police wouldn’t care. If he took the money, it was fraud. He wanted to take the civil service exam and become an official in the future; if the political background check found he committed fraud, his life would be over.
The transfer was like a piece of red-hot charcoal, sizzling in the chat box. Tang Xingye could almost see the Alpha holding the transfer record and threatening himâ”You don’t want the school to know about the money scam, do you?”
The Alpha’s deep voice mixed with the oppression of pheromonesâjust imagining it made the gland on the back of his neck ache faintly.
Candy Heart: [Brother, that’s not what I meant. I just wanted to share with you. What is Brother doing now?]
Lu Zhi: [Just finished showering.]
Candy Heart: [Then have you put on clothes?]
Candy Heart: [Covering face.jpg]
Lu Zhi: [Mn.]
Tang Xingye frowned slightly. He thought Lu Zhi would follow the topic and say something harassing, given how interested he was in Candy Heart’s leg photo.
Ideally, send some photos revealing his face.
Unfortunately, the other party didn’t take the bait. Truly cunning! To maintain the Candy Heart persona, Tang Xingye had to change the subject. [Does Brother like skirts? I wore a long skirt today.]
Lu Zhi: [Let’s see.]
Tang Xingye: ?
Where is a Beta like me going to conjure up a skirt?
Tang Xingye froze for a moment, preparing to look for photos of short skirts showing only the lower body. But on second thought, if Lu Zhi discovers the legs don’t match or that it’s an internet picture, he might block me directly.
Tang Xingye decided to bluff his way through: [I’m going to sleep. Can I take it tomorrow?]
Lu Zhi: [Mn, see it later.]
Tang Xingye couldn’t figure out if he wanted to see it or not. But chatting about seeing legs and skirts with an Omega in the middle of the nightâwhat kind of decent person is that?! He definitely wants to see but is pretending to be cold.
Lu Zhi probably won’t wait for this skirt photo. I’m not going to spend money to buy a skirt to send to him.
The next day, Tang Xingye went to the shop and saw a character image posted at the door with strange proportions but somehow looking good. The shop also displayed standees that seemed to be from the same series. He asked a colleague and found out it was a game collaboration character image.
Every employee had to wear the game character’s headband while serving customers and shout a slogan with emotion. Tang Xingye stared silently at the rabbit ears and the shameful slogan, feeling a bit lucky that he was only in the back of the house.
However, on the first day of the collaboration, there were an unusually large number of customers. The front desk was overwhelmed, and the shift leader called Tang Xingye to help out at the front.
Tang Xingye moved through the shop with a tray. As he placed desserts and milk tea on the table, he recited the slogan in a flat, monotone voice: “These delicacies are infused with my love for Master. Please enjoy.”
The voice was clear and clean, but utterly devoid of emotion.
An Alpha who had just lost a game had a temper rising; everyone looked annoying to him. He frowned slightly, dissatisfied with Tang Xingye’s service attitude, and couldn’t help but look up to glare at him.
The moment he saw him clearly, he was stunned, his anger instantly extinguished.
The boy was slender. He wore a black mask that obscured his face, which only made the exposed skin appear even whiter. His eyelashes drooped like crow feathers, revealing eyes that were clearly black and white, with a tempting tear mole hanging at the corner of his eye.
Being looked at by those cold eyes felt… really satisfying.
The Alpha trembled all over. He’s clearly wearing a chaste black uniform with no excess skin exposed, so why does the more he wears, the more erotic he looks?
The boy was also wearing a rabbit ear headband. The snow-white fluff trembled gently with the tilt of his head, creating a soft arc under the light. The twitching of the fluff felt like it was scratching right at one’s heart.
Those rabbit ears were simply too white, so white that one wanted to grind their canine teeth against the base to see if a flush of arousal would seep out.
The customers at the next table were calling him, and Tang Xingye stood up to leave. The Alpha stared obsessively, his gaze glued to the narrow waistline outlined by the black work uniform.
So thin, feels like I could span it with one hand.
Mom, I’ve never seen such a hot Beta.
Wonder if I can get his contact info.
If that doesn’t work, taking a step back… even being slapped by him would be okay.
