Chapter 82: Final Chapter: Sensing Pheromones Because of Being Loved part 1
Final grades were out. Tang Xingye saw his name at the most eye-catching top spot on the bulletin board without surprise.
Winter break arrived, and Tang Xingye went to the medical institute for an internship. The holiday was a good opportunity to overtake others on the curve. While others rested, he worked hard so he could leave them behind. To this end, Tang Xingye listed his plan.
On the way, the driver frequently sized up this exceptionally good-looking young passenger through the rearview mirror, hesitating to speak several times. Upon reaching the destination, he asked, “Young man, are you here to visit a family member?”
Tang Xingye naturally understood the driver’s gaze. He unbuckled his seatbelt and pushed open the door. “No, I’m here for an internship.”
Driver: “???” He watched blankly as the slender figure walked straight into the psychiatric hospital building.
Tang Xingye knocked and entered the office after receiving permission. Inside, a middle-aged Alpha wearing a well-ironed white coat with a steady temperament looked up, a gentle smile on his face. “Tang Xingye, right?”
Tang Xingye nodded and greeted him politely.
Dr. Ge took Tang Xingye on a tour of the building, his heels clicking on the ground with an echo. He pointed casually at the department signs on both sides and asked, “Did the Seventh Medical Institute go to your school for employment presentations?”
“Yes.” Tang Xingye had long studied internship units that had cooperative relationships with the school. The psychiatric specialty direction and the special cases admitted by the Seventh Medical Institute fit his research interests and future plans the best.
Dr. Ge nodded and didn’t ask further. He brought him back to the office and pointed to a mountain of documents piled on the side: “Internship starts with the basics. These are recent patient files and medicine lists. Help organize and categorize them first; get familiar with them as soon as possible.”
Tang Xingye didn’t say much. He sat down as told and began to read.
Dr. Ge looked at this Beta with downcast eyes and a quiet profile, muttering in his heart: Looks like a smart kid, why can’t he think straight and ran here for an internship? The last Alpha assigned here was big and tall, but clamored to change places in less than a day. How long can this thin-armed, thin-legged Beta last?
However, in less than half a day, Dr. Ge discovered with slight surprise that Tang Xingyeâs efficiency was astonishingly high. Not only did he have a superb memory, never forgetting various complex drug names and case codes, but his organization of materials was also methodical. The categorization was extremely clear, and that mess of documents quickly became orderly.
A few days later, watching Tang Xingye, who could already skillfully check drug information, Dr. Ge felt it was time for the next stage. He picked up a bunch of keys and an oral medication list. Dr. Ge said to Tang Xingye, “Come with me to distribute medicine.”
He thought for a moment and added, “The patients here are very special. You’d better be mentally prepared. Some patients are very cunning and will deliberately hide medicine under their tongues. You have to check carefully.”
After walking two steps, Dr. Ge felt it was still inappropriate. He turned, opened a drawer, and put an electric shock baton into Tang Xingyeâs hand. “Keep this for self-defense. If they get too enthusiastic, use this to calm them down. Of course, it’s best to convince people with virtue…”
Tang Xingye lowered his head silently, revealing a slender, fair neck, looking like a fragile white porcelain vase.
Dr. Ge originally wanted to comfort Tang Xingye that the security measures here were complete and security could be called at any time. But the Beta raised his head, his eyes showing no nervousness about close contact with severe patients.
Tang Xingye looked at the electric shock baton labeled with “Super High Voltage” and asked politely, “If talking doesn’t work, can I hit him directly?”
Dr. Ge pushed up his glasses. “Emotionally I support you, but I don’t suggest you do that. The patients living here are Alphas. If you really fight, your strength can’t beat them.”
Tang Xingye made no comment.
The Medical Institute had several branches. The Seventh Institute mainly accepted psychiatric patients. The patients inside had complex conditions and strong aggression, only one step away from criminals on the fringes of society.
Tang Xingye pushed the small cart, entered the elevator, and arrived at the third floor.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, he heard a commotion from the ward end. The patients in the severe ward were discussing the newly arrived internâwhoever it was, they would teach him a good lesson and make him crawl out crying.
The sound of cart wheels appeared in the corridor, and the noise stopped abruptly.
Cold temperament, gorgeous face, an aura of alienation around himâit instead aroused a stronger desire for destruction in some people.
An Alpha patient wearing blue and white striped hospital garb whistled first and leaned close, looking him up and down, grinning. “New here? Looks more exciting than the Omegas at the nurse station…”
The patients next to him started jeering, their language becoming increasingly explicit. Tang Xingye seemed not to hear, checking the medicine list expressionlessly, his voice flat. “Li Sheng, right?”
The named Alpha smiled ambiguously, his gaze almost glued to that section of fair neck.
“Calling my name so urgently, can’t wait to get fâ”
Crack. A crisp sound.
Tang Xingye dislocated the Alpha’s jaw with a neat technique, forcing the other to open his mouth, and shoved the pills in. Then he closed the Alpha’s mouth. The Adam’s apple rolled, and the pills slid down the esophagus into the stomach.
Tang Xingye lowered his eyes, his pale pink lips speaking: “If you’re sick, take your medicine properly.”
Tang Xingye was like a ruthless medicine-dispensing machine, doing the same to every patient who tried to resist or speak filth. When someone wanted to resist, Tang Xingye didn’t even bother talking nonsense, directly pulling out the police electric baton given by Dr. Ge and poking accurately at the spot that hurt the most.
When leaving the severe ward, Dr. Ge couldn’t help asking Tang Xingye, “Did you do this kind of thing often before?”
Rookies just starting internships weren’t like old foxes like them. Usually, they would start by talking nicely to patients, asking them to take medicine properly and not hide it, only calling security when unbearable. It was his first time seeing someone like Tang Xingye, who would act immediately without talking nonsense.
Tang Xingye answered calmly, “No.”
Next, the medicine distribution process was smoother than imagined, without the usual chaos requiring security. Most patients were surprisingly cooperative, surprise flashing in their eyes, immediately replaced by a scorching curiosity. Some subconsciously retracted hands banging on the bars; others uncomfortably tugged at their hospital gowns, trying to make themselves look slightly presentable.
Medicine distribution had always been the biggest headache for the Seventh Institute; uncooperative patients, resistance, and hiding medicine were common occurrences. When Tang Xingye appeared, it became different; they lined up consciously, reserved yet expectant.
An Alpha grabbed the front of the line first, his Adam’s apple rolling. The Beta in front of him was clear and moving, so beautiful, and smelled good too.
“Chen Qi, right?”
Tang Xingye checked the list and read a name. The named Alpha was tall and muscular. Standing in front of the slender Beta, the shadow cast almost completely enveloped the other; the deterrence brought by physique was self-evident.
Tang Xingye just glanced at him lightly.
“Sit down.”
His tone was flat and ripple-free, yet inexplicably felt like an unquestionable command, sounding like training a dog. The tall Alpha actually sat down cooperatively like a giant dog, even bowing his head and looking up at Tang Xingye with longing eyes, afraid of making the person work too hard.
Tang Xingye handed over the pills and water cup. The Seventh Institute’s number one difficult Alpha swallowed the pills directly without hesitation. His gaze never left the cold, gorgeous face, greedily sniffing the cold fragrance at close range, as if what he swallowed wasn’t bitter pills, but some bestowed reward.
Watching the Alpha take the medicine obediently, Tang Xingye gave a barely perceptible nod and added a sentence: “Drink some water.”
Obedient dogs should get rewards. If the master doesn’t give, one must strive for it oneself.
A cluster of light suddenly lit up in Chen Qiâs eyes, as if receiving great affirmation. He spoke urgently, even with a hint of fawning, in a low voice, like reporting something to be proud of: “I am very obedient.”
Tang Xingyeâs gaze lingered on his face for a moment, finally giving a two-word verbal reward:
“Very good.”
This praise incorporated a bit of gentleness and patience, forming a sharp contrast with the rough feeding earlier. The Alpha’s face flushed red with excitement. The heart that originally wanted to be discharged wavered immediately; suddenly, he felt the discharge summary symbolizing “freedom” was hot to the handle.
An absurd and tempting thought drilled out uncontrollably:
How about… not leaving?
Just staying here, seems… not bad either.
