Chapter 42: Impersonating a Partner
Meanwhile.
Ao Chen: “…”
This gentleman doesn’t seem to know that the dragon scale I gave him still has a connection to me, Ao Chen thought, watching Wang Ming dance and sing in front of the large dragon scale, a strange sense of guilt rising within him.
The question is, should I warn him? Ao Chen’s conscience was stirred by Wang Ming’s dance, which resembled that of an ancient high priest.
Ao Chen decided to go to Wang Ming’s room to inform him.
He could use the connection through the dragon scale to communicate without a personal visit, like a phone call.
However, Ao Chen thought that if a normal person suddenly found a dragon scale talking to them in the middle of the night, it would be quite a shock.
While he knew Wang Ming was mostly immune to magical attacks, for safety’s sake, Ao Chen felt it was safer to inform him in person.
Just as Ao Chen was about to go to Wang Ming’s room, Depressed Panda, his loyal retainer, returned from patrolling the waters and approached Ao Chen’s bedroom, presumably to report his findings.
As Depressed Panda reached the door, he saw Ao Chen looking at the mirrored image from the dragon scale.
Looks like the master has already discovered the problem, Depressed Panda thought with respect and admiration.
But in the next second, due to a shift in perspective, Depressed Panda saw a sight he’d never forget.
The dragon scale’s projection showed Wang Ming’s unforgettable image. It wasn’t because of Wang Ming’s stunning looks, but because he was doing his cement-clad village dance—and wearing a bright pink wig. A true Renaissance master.
Depressed Panda: “…”
I’d pay a fortune for eyes that haven’t seen this, Depressed Panda sincerely prayed.
At the same time, Ao Chen noticed Depressed Panda and waved his hand, extinguishing the dragon scale’s projection.
“What is it?” Ao Chen nodded to Depressed Panda, knowing he’d returned from patrol and had things to report.
Depressed Panda: “…”
“Something important, but I need to compose myself,” Depressed Panda said, using a daily dismissal technique.
Ao Chen: “…”
“Wang Ming may not know the full capabilities of the dragon scale. When you see him, tell him,” Ao Chen said.
He felt it might be a better choice for Depressed Panda to deliver the message.
Depressed Panda: “…”
After seeing that, I don’t know how to face that kid, Depressed Panda thought.
Despite his inner turmoil, Depressed Panda dared not disobey his master’s orders. After his report, he found Wang Ming.
Depressed Panda, with a weary body and a wandering soul, arrived at Wang Ming’s door.
I’ll knock only once, Depressed Panda thought. If he doesn’t answer, it means tonight’s not a good time for a chat.
He prayed that Wang Ming chose an apartment in the middle of his numerous rentals, so even if he took the door off its hinges, Wang Ming wouldn’t hear.
After his earnest prayers, Depressed Panda knocked.
He heard Wang Ming’s clear voice.
“Come in,” Wang Ming said, sounding slightly breathless.
Depressed Panda: “…”
It seems I can’t escape my fate, Depressed Panda sadly thought, opening the door.
Depressed Panda saw Wang Ming still dancing, calm and composed, looking like a general.
Depressed Panda: “…”
As long as he’s not embarrassed, the embarrassed one is me, Depressed Panda sadly realized.
“Little brother, busy?” Depressed Panda asked.
“Not really. Something wrong at this hour?”
Wang Ming calmly stopped his dance, took off his bright pink wig, and shook his hair, skillfully smoothing it from its previously messy state.
“It’s like this,” Depressed Panda said.
“You were messing with the dragon scale, right?” Depressed Panda carefully guided Wang Ming.
“Yeah, I found it can be used as a mirror,” Wang Ming nodded, seemingly unconcerned, but still interested.
Depressed Panda: “…”
“The thing is, the master thought it necessary to inform you.”
Depressed Panda decided to tell Wang Ming everything, looking sympathetically at him, wondering if he’d consider moving planets.
Wang Ming: “…”
“He saw everything?” Wang Ming cautiously confirmed.
“Yes,” Depressed Panda nodded solemnly.
“If… you want to move to another planet, I have a good place to recommend,” Depressed Panda offered.
Wang Ming: “…”
The paranormal world also includes an alien branch? Wang Ming thought, shaking his head and politely declining.
“But it’s fine.”
After a brief moment of shock, Wang Ming quickly regained his composure.
Depressed Panda: “…”
This kid’s mental fortitude is extraordinary, Depressed Panda thought in amazement, wondering if Wang Ming’s exceptional mental strength was the reason Heaven paired him with Ao Chen—mental fortitude being a big plus in their world.
Just as Depressed Panda was about to compliment his master’s fiancé, Wang Ming said:
“He’ll find out eventually anyway.”
Depressed Panda: “…”
“Why will he find out eventually?” Depressed Panda asked.
Because when I go home for the New Year, I plan to ask him to impersonate my partner, so he’ll have a chance to see me dance in the village, Wang Ming thought.
