Chapter 4
Monday morning.
The weather was fine; the sky was a clear, bright blue, dotted with fluffy white clouds. A gentle breeze carried the faint scent of unknown flowers; it was hard to pinpoint the exact fragrance.
Luo Wen Shu sat on a bench in Xinghua Square. It was a weekday morning, so the square was relatively empty.
Luo Xingyu was sitting three meters away on another bench, looking at her with worry.
They werenât sitting together because Luo Wen Shu was having a very unlucky day.
After returning home last night, she had intended to rest but fell asleep.
When she opened her eyes again, the night was over.
Luo Xingyu woke her, gently tugging at her clothes and softly calling her âMommy.â
âWhat is it?â she asked, sitting up.
This body had no cultivation, yet the side effects from overusing her spiritual energy last night had completely vanished after a nightâs rest. This surprised Luo Wen Shu.
âYouâre going to be late for workâŚâ Luo Xingyu softly reminded her.
Luo Wen Shu paused, realizing it was Monday and she should be going to work.
Growing up relying on the kindness of strangers, then taken in by Luo Ming Qi and becoming his disciple, sheâd never had to worry about food, clothing, or shelter. Her only responsibility was cultivation.
The concept of âgoing to workâ was unfamiliar.
The original owner worked as a hotel receptionist; it didnât require a high education, but required good looks.
The pay was decent, but the work was exhausting. Four days off per month, requiring advance notice, with rotating shifts, and constant smiling at customersâŚ
Luo Wen Shu disliked and couldnât handle this job.
But she needed the money. The original owner only had a little over a thousand yuan left; rent and utilities were due soon.
The bigger expense was Luo Xingyuâs kindergarten tuition. He would be starting senior kindergarten in September; tuition was eight thousand yuan per semester, excluding insurance, payable this month.
ââŚMommy, here.â Luo Xingyu softly said, handing her a toothbrush with toothpaste already squeezed onto it.
The original ownerâs memories showed that Luo Xingyu was a very good child from birth, rarely crying, only making noises when hungry or needing a diaper change; after that, he quickly fell asleep.
Later, he learned to help, fetching things or pouring water.
While other children in kindergarten needed help getting ready in the morning, Luo Xingyu did everything himself.
He often woke up before the original owner, getting ready before waking her.
Even without occupying the original ownerâs body, Luo Wen Shu would have liked this intelligent and well-behaved child.
Looking at him and thinking about their poverty, Luo Wen Shu sighed, deciding to quickly resume her old profession.
At 8 AM, Luo Wen Shu prepared to leave.
As she stood at the door, she sensed a subtle opportunity, pausing for a moment.
ââŚMommy, whatâs wrong? Did you forget something?â Luo Xingyu softly asked.
Luo Wen Shu recovered, squinting at him. âDo you want to come with me?â
Luo Xingyu was surprised.
Luo Wen Shu waited.
After a few seconds, he nodded decisively.
So Luo Wen Shu took Luo Xingyu out.
And her bad luck began.
Leaving the building, she almost stepped in dog droppings; it seemed deliberately placed.
She shifted her foot in mid-air to avoid it.
Buying breakfast, the tea egg the vendor gave her contained an unhatched chick, and the soy milk bag burst, almost spilling on her.
Then, the bus broke down; many people were anxious, so she and Luo Xingyu got off. Strangely, the bus started again and drove off.
These were minor issues; Luo Wen Shu easily avoided them.
The real trouble started later.
Luo Wen Shu needed to go to the hotel to resign.
A shortcut led to the back of the hotel, saving half the distance. The original owner usually used it.
As Luo Wen Shu walked down the alley, a gust of wind blew through, sounding frightening.
She let Luo Xingyu wait and went ahead.
A crash came from above; a large glass ashtray with shards of glass fell toward Luo Wen Shu.
She dodged it.
Unfazed, she continued; as they were about to leave the alley, a dirty, matted dog appeared, barking and lunging at her.
Luo Xingyu was terrified, his face pale.
He watched the dog approach, thenâŚLuo Wen Shu kicked it away; it hit a wall, fell to the ground, whimpered twice, and lay still.
After many more mishaps, Luo Wen Shu finally resigned, losing a monthâs salary and the pay for half a monthâs work.
She didnât mind; she had ways to make more money quickly.
She took Luo Xingyu to Xinghua Park.
The opportunity to make money, and the subtle opportunity she sensed earlier, were here.
ââââââââ
â⌠Zhenzhen, itâs me, JinziâŚâ A young man with dyed blonde hair and a white shirt and black shorts was on the phone, walking past Luo Wen Shu.
âI just took my mom to the mallâŚWhat do you want to eat? I can get it for youâŚâ
Luo Wen Shu glanced at him.
He wasnât handsome, but tall and sunny.
However, he had dark circles under his eyes and looked pale.
Luo Wen Shu saw a wisp of black energy around himâan ominous sign; he would face danger, possibly fatal.
He had great wealth.
She looked at Luo Xingyu, who quickly got up and followed.
They followed the blonde young man.
ââââââââ
Jin Youqian was picking up duck blood vermicelli soup and a milk tea for someone heâd met recently, Yu Zhenâbeautiful, with long flowing hair and a white dress.
Heâd fallen for her at first sight and persisted until he got her WeChat.
Heâd been showering her with attention.
Smiling, he was tapped on the shoulder.
He turned; a small, pretty woman with gentle features and calm eyes was standing there.
âBeautiful lady, is there something wrong?â he smiled.
She gave a polite smile, but her words were jarring.
âFriend, I see darkness in your foreheadâŚâ
Jin Youqian, experienced with such things, immediately wanted to leave.
But an accident happened.
The woman stepped back; a plastic flowerpot fell where sheâd been standing.
ââŚyouâre in dangerâŚâ
She moved to the left; a motorcycle sped past where sheâd been standing.
ââŚI have a blessed amuletâŚâ
The woman moved again, kicking a large man with a knife who was charging at her.
Jin Youqianâs mind was blank; he looked at the woman.
She smiled politely, calmly saying, ââŚfor only 19,888!â
Jin Youqian: ââŚâ
After a few seconds, he said, âIâll buy! Right now!â
He wanted to kneel and thank her; heâd pay double the price!
