Chapter 13
Inside the main team’s training room, Xie Wei didn’t pay attention to the screen after clicking confirm. It wasn’t until the game started that he shifted his gaze back.
He had never been one to pay attention to his teammates in ranked matches. Plus, as a Sniper, he was a lone wolf. Unless the team desperately needed a shotcaller, for the most part, Xie Wei played mute and went solo, doing whatever he pleased.
The mode for this game was “Control” (Occupy Point). The random map was Ireland City, a coastal town with blue roofs and white walls.
The characteristic of this map was its winding alleyways, not including the small houses one could enter to hide. Since the buildings were indestructible, the map played like guerrilla warfare; you never knew which corner or house someone would suddenly pop out of to spray a clip of bullets into you.
Vision on this map was poor, meaning it was very unfriendly to snipers.
High sniping points, like the Bell Tower, existed, but… compared to people who could hide inside houses and move freely, a sniper standing on high ground was visible at a glance, practically a live target.
Xie Wei wasn’t worried about this at all. Shouldering his sniper rifle, he said lazily, “Leave the enemy sniper to me, it’s OK. You guys take care of the front line.”
The other teammates naturally recognized Xie Wei’s ID and quickly expressed that there was no problem. One Assaulter even volunteered, “God Xie, I’ll command this round, you just roam freely.”
Xie Wei smiled. “Sure.”
The Medic and the other Assaulter didn’t speak, evidently agreeing by default.
The preparation time ended. Just as Xie Wei was about to move, the hem of his clothes was suddenly tugged from behind. He paused, and immediately after, a healing injection appeared in his hand.
He froze.
A healing injection. Used in combat, it could instantly restore full health. It was a healing method unique to Medics, and there were only two in the entire game. It was extremely precious.
In Ireland City, a Sniper’s survival rate was indeed worrying, and due to positioning, it was hard for Medics to look after him. But receiving a healing injection right at the start? This was the first time Xie Wei had encountered such a thing.
He looked up at the ID of the Medic in front of him.
Ice.
It was actually Xu Ziyan.
…What was this? Special treatment?
Was it because of their relationship, or simply because he believed in his ability?
Xie Wei’s thoughts grew messy. He hesitated for a moment but didn’t say much. clenching the injection tightly, he shouldered his sniper rifle and left in a hurry.
Behind him, Xu Ziyan let out a deep sigh of relief.
Heaven knew how nervous he was when he handed over the injection, terrified that Xie Wei would reject him, and even more terrified that Xie Wei would question why he did it.
Xu Ziyan had to admit, he had selfish motives.
If it were any other Sniper, he wouldn’t care if they lived or died. But this wasn’t anyone else; it was Xie Wei.
A Top Alpha’s temporary mark lasted for three months. That meant, right now, he was still Xie Wei’s Omega.
Giving his own Alpha a little special treatment in a ranked match—wasn’t that only natural?
Xu Ziyan lowered his head and pulled up his hood, covering his bright red ears.
Resist was different from other competitive games. Players couldn’t choose different characters to fight; they could only select their weapons during the preparation time before the game started. There were two slots, primary and secondary weapons, and different classes could choose different weapon types.
Xie Wei chose a heavy sniper rifle and a pistol.
Usually, Xu Ziyan would choose at least one means of attack, but today, after hesitating, he chose a healing gun and armor packs.
Walking out of the safe zone, gunshots were already ringing out on all sides due to the delay at the start. The capture point for this round was the Saint Cathedral on the right. In front of the cathedral were fountains and sculptures, as well as a courtyard full of blooming roses and a long corridor.
On the other side of the corridor was the ocean with rolling dark waves. Falling in meant an immediate respawn countdown. It could be said to be extremely dangerous.
The location of the capture point directly determined the center of gravity for the battle. Xu Ziyan lightened his steps, agilely vaulting over obstacles. Stuck behind a wall, he accurately threw an armor pack to the Assaulter charging at the very front, then raised his healing gun to leisurely top up their health.
The reason for being so cautious was simple: the protection a Medic could provide in Resist was simply too high. Since this was a capture point mode where survival equaled victory, whichever side killed the Medic first would gain a huge advantage.
Xu Ziyan didn’t want to lose, and he especially didn’t want to lose in a game with Xie Wei. Thus, his positioning was even more careful.
His movement and mechanics were incredibly skilled, and his familiarity with the map was also very high. Retreating while moving, winding around corners—he even squatted to use cover when reloading. His caution gave the enemy sniper a headache, cursing this healer for playing so wretchedly safe.
So be it if it’s wretched; there was no other way. After all, a Medic’s combat power was weak, not to mention Xu Ziyan was carrying a pure healing loadout. If he got headshot by a sniper, it would be an instant kill without a chance to struggle.
Soon, the person targeting Xu Ziyan changed.
Rapid footsteps came from the alley behind him. Immediately after, an enemy Assaulter carrying an assault rifle appeared behind Xu Ziyan.
As a Medic, Xu Ziyan was long used to being “taken care of” like this. Without a word, he threw a smoke grenade directly. Just as he was about to run deeper into the alley to kite the Assaulter to death with movement and sneak attacks like usual, a low command suddenly came through his headset: “Come out.”
Xu Ziyan paused, but his body moved faster than his thoughts. By the time he reacted, he had already turned and run toward the small plaza on the other side.
Stumbling out of the smoke, Xu Ziyan did a side roll and hid behind a flower bed at the edge of the plaza. But this only blocked the enemy sniper’s line of sight; it offered no help in escaping the Assaulter’s pursuit.
In a gap of just a few seconds, the enemy Assaulter also charged out of the smoke. Xu Ziyan squeezed his eyes shut, almost ready to welcome death and respawn.
However, in the next moment, a deafening boom resounded through the sky above the entire battlefield. A bullet tore through the air, followed by a barely audible “pfft” sound.
Xu Ziyan opened his eyes. The Assaulter who had been menacing just moments ago swayed, gradually turning into motes of light. A respawn countdown appeared where he had stood: 30, 29, 28…
His eyes widened slightly, his heart pounding wildly against his ears.
It was Xie Wei.
