The Esports Big Shot Wants to Cuddle His New Teammate Every Day chapter 19

Chapter 19

Even after sitting in Xie Wei’s car, Xu Ziyan was still in a daze, unsure of what was happening.

Just a moment ago, when Xie Wei asked him, he had agreed without a second thought, not considering the reason at all.

Now, sitting in the passenger seat, Xu Ziyan tried hard to think through the sequence of events and finally came up with a possibility.

Gripping his seatbelt, he turned his profile to look at Xie Wei in the driver’s seat and asked tentatively, “Captain, did you come to find me today because of the Newcomer Cup?”

Xie Wei was in the middle of reversing the car. Hearing this, he paused, genuinely at a loss for words.

To be honest, he had come over today partly because he was worried about Xu Ziyan’s physical condition, and partly out of guilt, carrying a mindset of wanting to make amends.

As for the Newcomer Cup, he wouldn’t go out of his way just for that.

“Something like that,” Xie Wei answered perfunctorily. Seeing Xu Ziyan’s nervous expression, he thought for a moment and asked, “Are you feeling better today?”

Xu Ziyan didn’t react immediately and subconsciously asked back, “What?”

Xie Wei said, “Weren’t you feeling unwell yesterday?”

Xu Ziyan froze. “How did you…” know?

He stopped mid-sentence, suddenly realizing something, and his face exploded into a shade of crimson.

Wait.

Did that mean those things yesterday… weren’t actually a dream?

Xie Wei found it strange that he stopped halfway. Turning his head, he saw Xu Ziyan blushing from his neck to the tips of his ears, his eyes darting away, looking so shy he didn’t dare lift his head. Thinking of the situation yesterday, Xie Wei also felt a bit awkward and coughed lightly. “What do you want to eat?”

Xu Ziyan’s brain had practically shut down; he had no mind to think about food. “Anything is fine.”

Xie Wei chuckled. “Anything? Alright, then I’ll just choose randomly.”

The car drove in silence and finally stopped in front of a small restaurant.

It was very late. Most of the shops on the street had plunged into darkness. The wind was cool and refreshing.

The restaurant’s wooden sign was nestled in dark green shrubbery. Walking down a narrow cobblestone path revealed a small cottage with soft lighting. A light-colored wind chime hung on the door. The entire atmosphere of the restaurant was peaceful and comforting.

Xu Ziyan followed Xie Wei inside and was surprised to find quite a few customers still eating at this hour. A waiter smiled and led them into a private booth on the side. Xie Wei was obviously a regular here; he glanced casually at the menu and rattled off a long list of dish names.

The waiter tapped a few times on the ordering device and smiled. “Okay, please wait a moment, we will serve your dishes shortly.” With that, he left the private room.

Xie Wei picked up the water glass on the table and took a sip. Just as he was searching his mind for a topic to break the impending awkward silence, Xu Ziyan spoke first.

He had already prepared a draft in his mind on the way here. Over the past few months, he had thought about this matter constantly during his free time, so his words flowed remarkably smoothly. “Captain, I’m sorry. What happened before was my fault. My brain really wasn’t working right back then, that’s why I… I-I have always been your fan. I only started playing Resist because I watched your gameplay videos. But I never thought about doing things to threaten or use you. That night was truly an accident.”

“You know, back then… if I couldn’t get into the team, I would have been forced to leave the youth training camp. That’s why when you spoke, I made that request. I’m sorry, Captain. I apologize to you.”

Xie Wei was stunned by the barrage of “I’m sorry”s, and the topic he had prepared was swallowed back down. He carefully parsed through Xu Ziyan’s words, and connecting them with the other’s performance in the team recently, he knew these words were at least eighty percent credible.

In other words, it truly was an accident back then. Xu Ziyan hadn’t planned to use his body to get into the team from the start; he had just happened to bump into Xie Wei when he was falling into his rut, leading to the series of events that followed.

However…

Xie Wei asked, “Why were you at the entrance of the First String dormitory?”

Speaking of this, Xu Ziyan felt quite guilty. “…At that time, I thought I was done for no matter how long I waited, so I wanted to make a desperate gamble. I really did go there to find you, Captain. I wanted to prove my strength and see if I could still get a chance to join the team.”

“…” Xie Wei rubbed his forehead. “You should have gone to the coach!”

Xu Ziyan didn’t speak. At that time, he was physically and mentally exhausted from dealing with that scum coach in the youth camp. He was so agitated that he simply didn’t want to trust any coaches anymore.

Xie Wei clearly realized this as well. He paused and asked, “What exactly happened with that Wang Jingyu?”

Xu Ziyan truthfully recounted how Wang Jingyu tried to take advantage of him, how he punched him, and how the man then blocked his entry application out of humiliation and anger.

The more Xie Wei listened, the tighter his brows furrowed. He had thought Wang Jingyu was just harassing him, but he didn’t expect him to maliciously block a trainee’s application as a threat.

With the misunderstanding cleared up, Xie Wei found Xu Ziyan much more pleasing to the eye. At the same time, he felt somewhat apologetic. After all, both parties were at fault for the accident. He had misunderstood the guy for so long and… hadn’t fulfilled his responsibilities as an Alpha.

Thinking of the things Shen Xiao and Qu Qingyue had said, Xie Wei rarely felt his face burn a little.

But this was the purpose of him seeking out Xu Ziyan today. So, after hesitating, he spoke up. “Xu Ziyan, this is your first time being marked, right?”

Xu Ziyan thought this matter would be skipped over. He didn’t expect Xie Wei to bring it up so bluntly. Feeling awkward, he nodded. “En.”

Xie Wei said, “Since everything is out in the open and the previous matter was a misunderstanding, I’ll speak directly. During this period, including your discomfort yesterday, it’s because you were marked for the first time. You need an Alpha’s company and pheromone soothing.”

Xu Ziyan’s eyes widened, unsure of Xie Wei’s meaning.

Xie Wei continued, “My temporary mark still has half a month before it fades. During this time, I will try my best to find time to meet you every day. Don’t refuse; the Newcomer Cup is coming up soon. Don’t you want to focus on training?”

Meeting Xie Wei every day.

And after meeting?

Alpha companionship and pheromone soothing…

The more Xu Ziyan thought about it, the hotter his face felt. He nodded flusteredly.

Seeing him agree, Xie Wei breathed a huge sigh of relief. If he caused someone to be unable to focus on the competition and affected their future development, he would have to carry a massive burden of guilt.

With everything cleared up, Xie Wei felt much lighter at heart. A smile appeared on his face as he picked up the water pitcher on the table and filled Xu Ziyan’s glass. “Neither of us wanted that accident to happen. When the mark fades and things get back on track, we will still be teammates. You play Medic really well, and you’re young. Seize the opportunity…”

He spoke enthusiastically on his own, failing to notice that Xu Ziyan’s expression had changed slightly.

The implication of these words was obvious: Once the mark ends, bridges return to bridges and roads to roads; there will be no extra entanglement between us.

This was only natural.

It should have been this way. Xie Wei didn’t like him; it was just his own unrequited wish.

Xu Ziyan lowered his head, quickly adjusting his emotions. When he looked up again, he was wearing a smile.

Soon, dishes were served one after another. The two chatted about the recent Resist update and the blood-and-tears history of 1v1 mode. The atmosphere turned out to be surprisingly pleasant.

Xie Wei said, “When I first joined the team, I was also selected to participate in the Newcomer Cup.”

Thinking of the experience of Bai Ke, who was also a Sniper, Xu Ziyan said, “It must have been painful, right?”

Xie Wei laughed. “No. I played 1v1 with a sniper rifle once, and immediately switched to Assaulter after I came out. So that year, I competed using the Assaulter class.”

Xu Ziyan couldn’t help but laugh; that was indeed very Xie Wei’s style. However, this event had never been recorded. As a die-hard fan, it was his first time hearing about it.

When he asked about it, Xie Wei showed a helpless expression. “The reason it wasn’t reported is simple: I wasn’t the champion that year. I killed everyone, but in the end, the last remaining Sniper blew my head off with one shot. Later, the format was changed to a points system where kills count for points. Otherwise, that year… tsk.”

“Actually, there are records. It’s just that in the esports industry, both media and fans admire strength. They are only willing to acknowledge your excellent side, so very few people know about that incident.”

That was true. In this industry, only those at the tip of the pyramid were seen. As the captain of a powerhouse team, Xie Wei was adorned with countless honors, but behind the spotlight lay unbearable pressure.

Carrying talent, yet having to work even harder.

One mistake, and the applause and flowers of the past could instantly turn into vicious insults.

Xu Ziyan’s gaze shifted slightly. He didn’t continue this topic but smiled and started talking about other things.

After the meal, Xie Wei drove Xu Ziyan back to the dormitory.

The night was dark and quiet all around. Scattered lights shone from the windows of the building in front of them. Under the dim streetlamp, Xie Wei parked the car, turned his head, and smiled slightly. “Go back and rest early today. Don’t push yourself too hard.”

The light pouring in from the front glass gently outlined his profile, his brows and eyes filled with soft light. Xu Ziyan’s heart skipped a beat, and he thought with a bitter smile: Who could be looked at like this and not be moved?

He suppressed the throbbing in his heart, nodded calmly on the surface, and smiled politely. “Okay, thank you, Captain.”

“Thank me for what?” Xie Wei had also set down a heavy burden, and coupled with the unexpectedly pleasant experience of chatting and eating with Xu Ziyan, his mood was exceptionally light. “Contact me if you need anything. Bye.”

After Xu Ziyan got out of the car, Xie Wei didn’t leave immediately. He waited until the Omega’s figure disappeared into the dormitory building before restarting the car.

Back in his dorm room, he walked into the bathroom and took a shower. Afterward, seeing a new message on his phone, he picked it up to check.

[Xu Ziyan: Captain, thank you for today.]

Xie Wei smiled. Removing his initial prejudice, this kid was unexpectedly polite.

While towel-drying his hair, he replied with one hand.

[Xie Wei: It’s nothing. Sleep early.]

Xu Ziyan replied very quickly.

[Xu Ziyan: Okay, goodnight.]

[Xie Wei: Goodnight.]

In the Second String dormitory, Xu Ziyan looked at the “Goodnight” on the phone screen and smiled.

At least, things were developing in a good direction.
