Part 2
Another interrupted anxiously, “Don’t think about it. Zhao Zeryang got expelled.”
“Not like Zhao Zeryang. I’ll pursue him properly, like pursuing a girlfriend. He shouldn’t get angry, right?”
Pursue Wen Rong?
Without thinking, Shi Ye walked around and stood behind the two boys, slapping his hand on the bookshelf to attract attention. “Don’t harass him. He’s Leon’s boyfriend.”
The two boys turned around abruptly, seemingly frightened by Shi Ye, and shuddered.
Then their gazes silently moved away from Shi Ye.
Shi Ye acutely sensed someone behind him and turned around quickly.
His breathing stopped abruptly.
A stack of books piled high almost blocked half of the person’s face.
Between the gloomy bookshelves, Wen Rong’s extremely light eyes also turned gray.
Wen Rong, who hadn’t noticed him earlier, seemed to have discovered him now.
Not shocked, not happy, not even afraid like a few days ago.
Leon took good care of him, transforming a wimp who trembled when speaking into a calm, elegant youth.
Staring quietly like this, he had an undeniable authority.
Additional footsteps sounded; the two boys who were standing here just now quickly fled from the other side.
“Why are you spreading rumors about my relationship with Senior Leon?”
If I hadn’t bullied him at the start of school, maybe I could have taken him as a little brother, kept him by my side…
What?!
“I think your behavior disrespects the Senior, and disrespects me too.”
Shi Ye’s blank brain was still stuck on the previous sentence. “What did I spread rumors about?”
“I am not dating the Senior.”
“You aren’t dating Leon?”
The baffling conversation dealt a critical hit to Wen Rong. “You—”
A very loud sound almost rang out in the library hall. He hurriedly walked closer to Shi Ye. Because the movement was too big, the books in his hand tilted forward.
Shi Ye hurriedly steadied them.
“Thank you.” After thanking him, Wen Rong lifted his chin from behind the books, resting it on the topmost book. His pretty face was full of distress. “Why do you always assume I like boys? The Senior and I are good friends, not dating.”
“Really?”
“I don’t like boys, and the Senior is a normal person too. Anyway, don’t talk nonsense anymore. If everyone misunderstands, it will hurt the friendship between me and the Senior.”
“Really?”
“Really, really. Where did you hear that I’m dating the Senior? Did you believe the gossip Senior Lin Qizheng wrote?”
“…”
Shi Ye didn’t answer, making Wen Rong even more anxious. “Those are all fake.”
“…”
Shi Ye tilted his head in contemplation, ignoring Wen Rong. Wen Rong didn’t know what else to explain. Thinking that his homework wasn’t finished, he could only depressingly hold the stack of books and walk out of the row of shelves.
He came to the library to study basics, not expecting to stumble upon the “scene” of rumors being spread about him. The culprit was Shi Ye, and he couldn’t even explain it clearly!
Wen Rong didn’t understand what benefit Shi Ye got from saying these things.
He and the Senior were friends, right? How could he spread rumors about a friend?
Shi Ye returned to his seat.
In the huge library, students trickled in. Amidst the sounds of chairs pulling and pages turning, as he carefully placed his books on the table, someone walked over from opposite and sat down carelessly.
Wen Rong looked up and saw it was Shi Ye. Thinking he had no right to dictate where others sat, he pretended not to see.
“Are you really not together with him?”
Wen Rong: “?”
Again?
“That day I clearly saw you two…”
Wen Rong completely ignored him now. His face fell, and he took out a pen and paper to start studying seriously.
He couldn’t hear whatever Shi Ye said.
The patches of light shifted, growing and aging within the library. Unknown time passed, and only a few rays of afterglow remained in the sky.
“Hey.”
“…”
“Hey!”
“…”
A finger suddenly drilled into Wen Rong’s palm, the nail gently scraping against the skin, hooking away the pen in his hand.
Wen Rong had to look up.
The first glance was dizzying; even with the lights on, it felt dark.
In his blurred vision, the hair was no longer purely gray; there was a small section of black at the roots.
Beneath the spiky hair that looked hard to mess with, a smiling face looked at Wen Rong.
“Can’t figure it out? I’ll teach you.”
“No need. Give the pen back.”
Shi Ye leaned back with the pen.
Wen Rong remained silent, his body motionless.
Shi Ye probably felt bored doing this too, so he returned the pen. “From 6 AM to 6 PM now, a full 12 hours. Aren’t you hungry?”
“It’s 6 o’clock?”
Wen Rong looked down. The notebook under his hand was mostly filled at some point. Turning his head, he saw darkness outside the window.
Dinner was served from 5 to 9 PM. The cafeteria must be crowded right now; he could go at eight.
Wen Rong made a decision. Taking back his pen, he was about to continue writing when a palm suddenly pressed onto the notebook.
Wen Rong looked at Shi Ye in confusion.
Shi Ye: “I definitely didn’t interrupt your study on purpose. Check Black Pigeon.”
Wen Rong guessed it wouldn’t be anything good, but bad things often had their own “names,” so he obediently opened Black Pigeon.
Black Pigeon System Notification: [Zhang Jincheng committed arson, causing a building in District Q to burn down. The school has requested police intervention. Zhang Jincheng is suspended pending investigation.]
Suspended???!!!
Arson!!!???
Messages from Lin Qizheng and Zhang Lin popped up simultaneously from half an hour ago.
[Youngest, seen the Dorm Leader?]
[Did the President contact you?]
[Done for, done for. I heard from passersby that the President headed towards the lake.]
[He wouldn’t be committing suicide, right!]
Suicide—
Each message was more explosive than the last.
Wen Rong hurriedly got up to pack his laptop into his bag. In his haste, his hand accidentally knocked the pen, which fell to the ground with a crisp sound.
“Go ahead, I’ll pick it up for you.”
“Thank you.”
Wen Rong didn’t have time to bow in thanks. Holding his phone, he ran straight out of the library, calling Lin Qizheng as he ran.
No answer for a long time. He switched to calling Zhang Lin.
Then Zhang Jincheng.
The night wind howled. A crack appeared on the leaf stem on the branch, its form teetering.
But it didn’t fall, stubbornly holding onto the branch.
The wind turned back and rushed up fiercely, using invisible hands to tear the leaf off cruelly.
Thousands of leaves suffered.
Wen Rong could hear the wailing of the leaves. After falling, they found no relief; the grass was sharp and slender, slicing their bodies like torture.
Rustle, rustle, rustle.
Thousands of leaves were dying.
Moments like this, where the mind went blank yet surroundings became abnormally clear, hadn’t appeared for many years.
When he was disliked by the older brother in his new home…
When he was sent back to the welfare institute from his new home…
Wen Rong acutely realized he was about to lose something very important.
He sniffed, suppressing the urge to cry, and dialed Lin Qizheng’s number again.
Still unable to connect.
The System’s exclusive store didn’t have tools to find people immediately, nor tools to run very fast.
Wen Rong stopped, patted both cheeks hard, and forced himself to calmly think about what to do at this moment.
Just then, a dazzling headlight shone from behind. Wen Rong had to raise his hand to shield his eyes.
“Get in.”
Hearing the familiar voice, he got in the car without thinking.
“Where to?”
“The lake.”
The strong wind lifted his bangs, and the trees on both sides receded rapidly.
Floriman Academy’s only lake was near Shi Ye’s tennis court. The car was extremely fast, arriving at the location in five or six minutes.
By the faint streetlights, Wen Rong saw a figure by the lake. Without time to thank Shi Ye, he hurriedly unbuckled his seatbelt and got out.
He was naturally bad at sports and ran slowly. The distance didn’t look far, but running felt like he would never reach the destination.
His two legs ran their own course, bumping occasionally due to the potholes in the grass.
Don’t jump.
Don’t jump!
Suddenly, a new figure appeared beside the shadow.
Wen Rong was startled, thinking the black figure was going to push Zhang Jincheng down. He couldn’t help shouting, “Don’t push him!”
The figure hugged Zhang Jincheng, paused, and stood motionless.
Getting closer, Wen Rong vaguely saw by the reflection of the lake that the other figure was Zhang Lin, holding Zhang Jincheng with both hands to prevent him from jumping.
Wen Rong breathed a sigh of relief.
The next second, a stumbling shadow jumped out from behind Zhang Lin and slammed its head into his waist.
Splash.
Splash.
Splash.
Three sounds of falling into water rang out in succession.
