Part 2
Footsteps sounded. Shi Ye walked behind Wen Rong. “According to federal law, suing your husband is a civil dispute; you have to find evidence yourself. But suing the model for suspected occupational infringement means the procuratorate will recover assets for you. Success rate 80%.”
Evelyn followed Shi Ye’s lead. “As a law student, I certify he’s right. Friendly reminder: before suing the mistress, send a signal that you forgive your husband briefly. Trick him into helping you punish the mistress first, then transfer assets and sue for divorce. With the prior case, the divorce winning rate doubles.”
This was practically very professional and feasible advice. The girl opened her mouth wide, forgetting to cry.
Just then, a touch of orange light fell on the top of Wen Rong’s head, carrying warmth. He turned his head; his extremely light eyes were dyed white-gold, crystal clear like jade.
“The sun is out.”
Zhang Lin rubbed his forehead. “It’s sunrise.”
The air instantly fell into silence.
The sun was up, which meant—the plan failed.
Climbing the mountain was a strenuous exercise for the four News Club members. They might never want to come again after this. Realizing they missed the sunrise, regret showed in everyone’s eyes.
Zhang Jincheng glanced shallowly down the mountain. “Youngest, can you still climb?”
Having missed the sunrise, Wen Rong lowered his head listlessly. “I can.”
“It’s okay.” Zhang Lin put a hand on Wen Rong’s shoulder. “We helped her solve her problem too. Let’s keep climbing. We made it all the way here; might as well go to the peak to see the scenery.”
Lin Qizheng chimed in, “Right, right, right. Seeing the scenery is fine too. I heard you can see Floriman Academy.”
“Mhm…”
Suppressing his disappointment, Wen Rong handed the tissues in his pocket to the girl. “I don’t know how to comfort people. These tissues are for you. If you’re sad, cry it all out. crying really makes you feel better. Regarding your family matters… you can listen to what they just said and use the law to protect your assets. Don’t worry, you aren’t alone. Look, your friends are all by your side; they will always support you.”
The girl looked around, gaining courage from her friends’ eyes. She took the tissues and nodded heavily.
Wen Rong turned to leave, but the girl called him again. “S—”
“Um… could you not call me Son?” Wen Rong spoke somewhat awkwardly.
“Sorry, sorry.” The girl corrected herself. “Wen Rong, can you give me your contact info?”
“No.” Shi Ye spoke before Wen Rong could. “He counts as a public figure; he can’t expose his contact information.”
The girl hurriedly explained to Wen Rong, “No, no, no, I don’t mean to harass you. Thank you so much for today. After I deal with my matters, I’ll treat you to a meal.”
“We only count as having helped after you solve your husband’s matter.” Shi Ye answered for Wen Rong again.
The girl paused slightly, then realized not only Wen Rong but also Shi Ye and Evelyn had helped her greatly. She nodded hurriedly. “Thank you all so much. Once I solve the matter, I’ll treat everyone to a meal.”
“Mhm.”
Shi Ye accepted the girl’s thanks calmly. He reached out and lifted Wen Rong’s bag, grabbing him along with it to walk up.
One tall and one short, wearing identical windbreakers and standing close, from behind, they looked like a young couple.
Once the two turned a corner and the group of girls could no longer be seen, Wen Rong couldn’t help but say, “Can you let go of me?”
“Give me the bag.”
“Huh?”
Shi Ye didn’t speak again. He reached out and pulled the straps off first, then, never looking at Wen Rong again, carried his own large backpack and held Wen Rong’s bag, striding upwards with large steps. His tall figure quickly left Wen Rong far behind.
An athlete’s physical fitness was just good—carrying weight up a mountain without getting tired or panting, and with such speed.
Wen Rong was both envious and confused, watching Shi Ye’s back as he climbed and thought.
He could tell Shi Ye’s expression was uglier than before. His brows, habitually furrowed, were in their most natural state of tension, and the corners of his lips drooped as if he had no strength in his body.
Thinking and thinking, his field of vision unknowingly opened up.
The wind blew over, then blew towards the rolling sea of clouds in the distance, tumbling over the mountaintops like waves.
Near the sun, the white clouds changed color, looking as if roasted by fire, their edges turning caramel.
Wen Rong’s mind was instantly emptied. Standing this high to see the scenery for the first time, only a surge of emotion remained.
“Youngest, Youngest, look there.” Lin Qizheng patted Wen Rong’s arm. “The clouds over there are flowing down like a waterfall.”
Wen Rong followed Lin Qizheng’s hand and couldn’t help exclaiming, “So beautiful.”
Lin Qizheng took out his phone, clicking away to take photos. “Not in vain did I climb for over two hours. This trip is worth it.”
“Mhm, mhm.”
Wen Rong’s eyes moved with the flow of the clouds, turning a half-circle, and inadvertently saw Shi Ye standing on another peak.
Evelyn was sticking to Jiang Zhiyue taking photos, so he was alone. Carrying the biggest bag, holding another bag in his hand, the windbreaker was like a hard, airtight casing isolating him from the outside world, leaving him to watch the peak scenery alone.
However, Shi Ye was motionless; he probably hadn’t seen the waterfall clouds Senior Lin Qizheng pointed out to Wen Rong just now.
Wen Rong thought, Should I point it out to Shi Ye?
“Number Three, Youngest, come for a group photo.” In the distance, Zhang Lin suddenly shouted.
“Coming!” Lin Qizheng pulled Wen Rong. “Let’s go. We have to take a photo to commemorate.”
Wen Rong withdrew his gaze.
Climbing up exhausted their stamina, and they had slept little last night, so going down, everyone unanimously decided to take the cable car.
With four people per car, Shi Ye guessed the four from the News Club would fit exactly in one car. Evelyn definitely wanted a car alone with Jiang Zhiyue. For reasons of not wanting to be alone in an enclosed space with others, he bought four tickets for himself, threw his bag into the cable car, and bent over to enter.
Just as he was about to sit down, the car shook, and a person followed him in.
“I’ve booked this car.” Speaking while turning back, seeing the windbreaker from Leon sitting opposite, Shi Ye frowned subconsciously.
“I didn’t have money to buy a ticket.” Wen Rong took off his hat and explained cautiously.
Poor ghost.
Shi Ye cursed in his heart. After cursing, he crossed his arms and turned his head to look out the window.
The scenery from 2,000 meters high was nothing rare to him. One glance and he felt bored, unable to resist turning back to lock eyes with Wen Rong.
Before roasting the other three from the News Club for not buying him a ticket, Shi Ye couldn’t help asking first, “What are you looking at me for?”
Wen Rong blinked. His figure appeared exceptionally petite accentuated by the overly large windbreaker. His skin was porcelain white, plated with a layer of gold by the sun.
White-gold eyes jumped up and down. Wen Rong was silent for a few seconds, then took out his phone and tapped on the screen. The not-so-great speaker emitted a voice: “Please understand people who get angry easily. They are all pitiful people driven crazy, with bitterness in their hearts they cannot speak—”
Shi Ye: ?
Shi Ye: “Turn off your middle-aged fraud video.”
Wen Rong shrugged, paused the video, and whispered a rebuttal, “It’s not a fraud video. I think what it says makes a lot of sense.”
“With your look of never having seen the world, what do you think doesn’t make sense?”
Wen Rong was silent for a moment. “Do you not have any friends?”
What kind of world is this? It’s Wen Rong’s turn to say I have no friends?
Shi Ye laughed out of anger. “What joke are you telling?”
“Qi Yuan is with Shi Jing now. Senior Leon is always busy with club matters. You—”
“Shut up!”
“I can be your friend. If you have any sad things, tell me. If you say it out, you won’t have to hit sandbags or punch walls to vent.”
“Bullshit. What kind of thing are you? What makes you qualified to be my friend?”
Wen Rong shut his mouth, like a machine gun suddenly jamming. Inside the cable car, it was so quiet only the rolling sound of the wheels overhead could be heard.
Getting closer to the ground, the cable car passed a peak, and the sunlight faded from Wen Rong’s face.
He put on the windbreaker’s hood. The brim was too large, even covering his eyes, leaving only his small mouth opening and closing: “You aren’t a thing either.”
Shi Ye sneered disdainfully. “Do you even know how to curse? With just this level, you dare rush up to say these things to me.”
“Your friends don’t want you.”
“…” Shi Ye’s smile froze.
“They all went to find Shi Jing.”
“…”
“Everyone likes Shi Jing.”
Shi Ye flew into a rage. “Fuck!”
Covered by the hat, Wen Rong wasn’t afraid at all and followed with a curse, “Fuck.”
“Do you dare take off your hat and say that again?”
“…Fuck.”
“No balls to take off the hat but balls to mimic me speaking, huh?”
Wen Rong hesitated. “My hand hurts; I can’t take it off.”
Shi Ye was pushed to the edge. “Stick your head over here. I’ll take it off for you.”
Wen Rong actually leaned his head over obediently. Shi Ye was stunned for a moment looking at the black hat.
Speechless for a moment, he pushed the head back. “What exactly do you want to do?”
Wen Rong took off the hat himself, blinking clearly. “Argue with you.”
“…”
“Don’t stay silent. You curse at me too. You’ll feel much better if you curse it out.”
“Are you crazy?”
“Just now I saw you standing alone on the mountain. There was scenery no one reminded you to look at, and what you saw couldn’t be shared with anyone. I felt you were a bit lonely, very much like me before…”
Wen Rong pursed his lips and thought for a while, then continued, “Actually, you are a pretty decent person. There were many misunderstandings between us before, but I thought about it carefully today; those things actually have nothing to do with us personally. We shouldn’t let others affect us either. So if you have anything on your mind, you can tell me. Don’t keep it inside anymore. Always hitting sandbags and smashing walls… what if you injure your bones? How will you play tennis?”
“…”
“Can’t I?”
“…”
“Or you can treat me as a tree hollow. Pour out whatever unhappy things you have; I absolutely won’t tell anyone.”
Shi Ye turned his face away. The cable car passed over a hill, and the sunlight hit him, making his eyes shimmer.
“If I become friends with you, I really won’t have any friends left.”
