Chapter 92: I Also Like Senior Very Much part 1
This was the first time Wen Rong had stayed up all night.
Even in the middle of the night, the semi-open manor never truly went dark. Every so often, beams of white light from passing vehicles would sweep through the window, stamping bright spots upon the wall.
Eventually, this light grew larger and brighter until it filled the entire room.
Wen Rong crawled out of bed. His first reaction was realizing he had pulled an all-nighter.
But upon closer thought, he felt he might have just slept lightly.
In any case, his mind was chaos.
He went to the bathroom to wash his face. Seeing his haggard eyes in the mirror, the problem that had plagued him all night gripped his heart with a dull ache once more.
“Brother, what should I do?”
【…】
It didn’t know either!
In all its years of employment, the System had never seen a host investigate the case of “Who kissed me last night?” only to arrive at the conclusion: “Everyone kissed me.”
Wen Rong hung his head, water droplets dripping from the tips of his hair onto the sink.
On the stats panel, his mood value continued to drop.
The System said anxiously, 【Host, you can ask the Seniors in the News Club. Aren’t they your friends?】
Right! He could ask the Seniors in the News Club.
Wen Rong jolted to attention and opened the News Club group chat.
He typed: “Seniors, I got drunk and caused trouble the night before last. I kissed both Shi Ye and Senior Leon at the same time.”
Delete, delete.
That sounded a bit strange.
Wen Rong revised his wording and typed: “Seniors, both Senior Leon and Shi Ye confessed to me. What should I do?”
Send.
Lin Qizheng: [Oh ho, they finally confessed to you?]
Wen Rong: [Huh?]
Why “finally”?
Zhang Lin: [What do you think?]
Wen Rong: [I can’t date right now. I can’t take responsibility yet.]
Lin Qizheng: [That’s high-level rhetoric! Top-tier Sea King* quotes. /Thumbs up] (*Translator’s Note: “Sea King” is internet slang for a player who manages multiple relationships/flirts simultaneously.)
Lin Qizheng: [Youngest, I believe you’re speaking from the heart. I am also purely speaking from the heart.]
Zhang Lin: [Ignore him.]
Zhang Jincheng: [Dating requires considering marriage. Are you ready to get married?]
Marriage.
Building a family.
Some thoughts slowly returned to his brain, untangling the confusion from last night.
Wen Rong turned off his phone.
【They haven’t given you advice yet, why did you turn it off?】
Wen Rong shook his head, water droplets splattering onto the mirror, blurring the reflection of his face which had regained its spirit.
“I don’t know why, but after saying the problem out loud, I suddenly figured it out.”
It wasn’t just a question of responsibility.
Whether building a family or dating, a material foundation was needed.
He had so many things to do right now: study, work, survive… Before these were resolved, he couldn’t provide a happy life for a partner. He couldn’t even arrange a big meal or a fireworks show for a date. More extremely, if he didn’t save enough points, he would literally die. How sad would his partner be then?
Yes! So, he shouldn’t date right now.
Having thought it through thoroughly, Wen Rong temporarily put the events of the previous night to the back of his mind. He took out the gift he had prepared and went to knock on Senior Leon’s door first.
Click—
Wen Rong held up the gift before speaking.
Senior Leon was still wearing yesterday’s clothes. His hair wasn’t messy, but he looked as if he hadn’t slept all night.
“For me?”
Leon leaned one hand against the door frame, bending down to bring his face closer to Wen Rong’s hand. “Is it purely a gift for your Senior, or do you have something else to say?”
Wen Rong’s fingers curled, bracing himself. “I wanted to thank Senior for treating me to dinner and fireworks last night.”
“And?”
Leon raised his eyes. The moment their gazes met, Wen Rong quickly lowered his head to avoid eye contact.
Although he didn’t say it outright, Wen Rong knew exactly what those three words were.
—I love you.
Just thinking of those three words caused an indescribable dampness to surge in Wen Rong’s chest, sending a shiver down his spine.
One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
…
Time flowed slowly.
Wen Rong pressed the tip of his tongue against the roof of his mouth, gathering his strength there to force a swallow. “I…”
The air was dense, covering him and the Senior like a heavy quilt. The sensation of heat and breathlessness eroded every cell.
Wen Rong’s fingers hooked completely, clutching the gift bag tightly.
“I also like Senior very much.”
“But I am very poor right now. My weekly academic grades aren’t ranked first, I haven’t bought a house yet, and in the future, it’s not certain…” that I can survive.
“I can’t take responsibility.”
Once silence fell, Wen Rong thought of the “Sea King” comment Lin Qizheng had made. Realizing these reasons might sound far-fetched to a Senior who lacked nothing, Wen Rong wanted to explain further. But Senior Leon’s eyes curved unexpectedly. “So, you like me too?”
Thump, thump.
Wen Rong’s heart beat rapidly twice. He pursed his lips and nodded in admission.
“It is my honor.”
Leon took the small gift from his hand. “Did you buy the gift last night?”
“Yes.”
“Did you buy one for Shi Ye too?”
How did Senior know!
Wen Rong’s eyes widened. In the silence, he recalled that this method was taught to him by the Senior, so the Senior could certainly guess it.
“Yes.”
He explained again, “I need to thank him for taking me in during this time.”
“Well done.”
Receiving some affirmation, Wen Rong felt happy. “Thank you, Senior.”
Leaving Leon’s door, Wen Rong went to knock on Shi Ye’s door, but received no response.
A passing butler said Shi Ye had gone to the training grounds an hour ago.
Shi Ye didn’t return until breakfast.
Fortunately, the hardest hurdle had been crossed, so Wen Rong was in good condition.
After the meal, he gave the gift to Shi Ye.
“Thank you for taking me in during this time.”
Shi Ye was shocked: “A gift for me?”
“Yes.”
“Is it just for me, or does Leon have one too?”
Wen Rong hurriedly explained, “Although I bought one for both of you, your gifts look different. I didn’t buy them randomly.”
Shi Ye hesitated for a moment before taking the gift. “Fine, at least you thought of me.”
“To thank you, I’ll take you out to eat later.”
Wen Rong refused with regret, “I have to go to the company to sign a contract later. I’ll be busy with work.”
Shi Ye was defeated and put on a fake smile to see Wen Rong into the car.
The moment the car left his line of sight, his expression changed drastically. When the butler came to remind him that “it’s time to train,” he waved him away, focused entirely on dialing a number on his phone.
“The enemy concubine has strong firepower. It’s difficult for me to be promoted to Empress. What should I do?”
Lin Qizheng replied leisurely: “You mean, you treat Leon as a brother, but your brother is playing mind games with you?”
“…” Shi Ye felt something was wrong, but recalling Leon’s series of operations, he nodded in agreement. Leon had indeed pitted him miserably.
Lin Qizheng was also silent for a few seconds, finally sighing: “At times like this, only magic can defeat magic. I have a copy of ‘Green Tea Mastery in 10 Days’ here. Do you want it?”
“Yes,” Shi Ye said decisively.
“It’s like this: the game I’m about to develop needs some… money and endorsement.”
“Money is easy. Endorsement is a no-go, but I can find game streamers to promote it for you.”
“Deal!”
After signing the contract, there was a training session at the company. Led by the HR lady, Wen Rong entered the office. Attending the meeting alongside him were the subjects he had imitated yesterday.
The meeting content covered the basic arrangements for the day of the finals. Wen Rong was in the post-match interview group. On that day, he only needed to dress appropriately, wait backstage until the match results were out, and then interview the contestants with his colleagues.
This post-match interview job was even simpler than he imagined. The company had even prepared a script; he just needed to go on stage and read it to the camera.
For the first time in his life, Wen Rong discovered that earning 500,000 could be this easy.
After the meeting, everyone gathered in the cafeteria for lunch. As Wen Rong followed behind the crowd waiting for the elevator, he heard a “ding” and someone exclaimed in surprise.
Looking over in confusion, he actually saw Zhou Xie.
Zhou Xie was surrounded by two burly bodyguards wearing earpieces. His aura was imposing, and Wen Rong stepped back with the others to make way.
“As expected of President Zhou’s son, truly excellent.”
“I heard he’s also the Student Council President of Floriman Academy.”
“Then Wen Rong should know him, right?”
“Wen Rong, are you close with President Zhou’s son?”
Wen Rong felt he should say they weren’t close, as they hadn’t even greeted each other just now. But saying they weren’t close seemed a bit strange since Zhou Xie was a good friend who grew up with the Senior and Shi Ye.
After hesitating for a moment, he chose a compromise: “We are schoolmates.”
Bzzzt—his phone vibrated.
Zhou Xie: [Come here. Something’s up.]
Wen Rong: …
Wen Rong regretfully apologized to everyone and used a phone call as an excuse to break away from the main group.
He walked back, turned a corner, and saw Zhou Xie standing by the wall with his two bodyguards.
It wasn’t Wen Rong’s first time seeing this setup, so he was somewhat used to it.
“Zhao Zeyang is downstairs. Wait a bit before you leave.”
Before Wen Rong could ask why he was called over, Zhou Xie spoke first.
“Um…”
Is he kindly warning me?
Wen Rong was stunned, then thanked him, “Thank you.”
“Also—I don’t have any schoolmates who piss me off to death yet make me swallow my anger and rush to stick my warm face against their cold ass.”
Wen Rong savored this sentence. It felt odd, and he became inexplicably sensitive. “You don’t like me too, do you?!”
“Too?” Zhou Xie narrowed his eyes.
That meant no.
Wen Rong breathed a sigh of relief. “It’s nothing.”
“Shi Ye confessed to you?”
