Chapter 23: The Backstabbing of B-Class Sentinels
The Princess opening purification appointments didn’t just cause a stir among the B-class Sentinels; even the A-class Sentinels inevitably heard about it.
Drill Grounds, Zone A.
A middle-aged A-class Sentinel spoke to a young Sentinel doing physical training. “Shao Bo, have you heard? The Princess is actually purifying B-class Sentinels these days.”
He held a thin cigarette between his lips, exhaling a puff of white smoke, his expression filled with emotion. “Is she tired of playing with A-class and starting to play with B-class now?”
Shao Bo finished a set of exercises. Watching him blow smoke, he frowned. “Senior, please do not smoke in the training area.”
Sentinels had extremely keen senses of smell. Sentinels who weren’t accustomed to smoking could easily become irritable upon smelling smoke, leading to private brawls.
“Ah, I know, I know.” The middle-aged Sentinel stubbed out the cigarette butt. Then, as if remembering something, he spoke in a kindly tone, “Didn’t your mania level skyrocket to 87%? Do you want to go to the Princess for purification? Although you might be… by her, haven’t you heard she’s changed for the better?”
Hearing the word “Princess,” Shao Bo felt a conditioned reflex of nausea in his heart. “I will never go.”
“But your mania level… Sigh! Forget it, you stubborn kid.” The middle-aged Sentinel shook his head. “A-class Guides are hard to book too. If you don’t want to risk dying from mania, just slack off a bit on the battlefield…”
Anyway, judging by the current situation, the Zerg couldn’t be completely wiped out anytime soon.
“How can one treat matters on the battlefield as child’s play? Senior, watch your words.” Shao Bo couldn’t listen anymore. With a cold face, he put down the training equipment, picked up his towel, and walked away.
The Zerg destroyed his home. How could he let those cruel, harmful scumbags off the hook!
As for the Princess changing for the better?
Heh. He would never forget how she had coldly mocked him right in his ear, sneering that his family deserved to be bitten to death by the Zergā!
How could a woman with such a vile nature ever change?
Shao Bo strode out of the drill grounds. Behind him, the kindly smile on the middle-aged Sentinel’s face gradually turned cold. He spat on the ground. “Pah, little pup, no sense of propriety at all!”
He had only been in the war zone for a few years, yet his military merits far exceeded those of veterans. He didn’t know how to be humble and give his seniors some face!
An arrogant brat like that would die on the battlefield sooner or later!
On Xie Qiangās side, everything was proceeding methodically.
B-class Sentinels lined up at the office on time every day to receive purification. After a few days of practice, Xie Qiang gradually mastered how to purify B-class Sentinels more efficiently without causing them to lose control or go into heat.
The trick was not to touch the B-class Sentinels’ beast ears or skin. She just needed to touch their fingertips slightly and pour in her spiritual power as much as she wanted.
Although it was a pity she couldn’t pet the fluffies anymore, an efficient workflow was obviously more important. Xie Qiang could only bid a tearful farewell to the fluff.
Xie Qiang also casually gave the B-class Guides a long vacation. Compared to Guides of other ranks, B-class Guides were the most exhausted. Xie Qiang felt her workload could completely cover theirs, so she simply let them rest well and recover their spirits before returning to their posts to struggle again.
Just like that, half a month passed quietly.
On this day, Xie Qiang was purifying B-class Sentinels as usual until the lunch break bell rang, reminding the working Guides to rest and eat.
Xie Qiang didn’t mind and continued transmitting spiritual power.
The Sentinels in the room had no intention of leaving either. They had long heard that the Princess would only go out to eat after purifying all the Sentinels.
Xie Qiang worked conscientiously, and the Sentinels accepted the purification as a matter of course, secretly thinking that she was indeed an S-class Guideājust touching fingertips could purify them completely.
Until the office door was pushed open with a creak.
Cang Jiuās voice arrived before he did, brimming with cheerfulness. “Your Highness~ Let’s go to the cafeteria to eat together!”
He walked quickly to the consultation table, looked at Xie Qiang, and then at the other Sentinels waiting in the room.
His gaze landed on the B-class Sentinel currently receiving purification. Cang Jiuās narrow fox eyes squinted slightly. “You can go.”
“But I haven’t finished the purification yet?” The B-class Sentinel frowned, looking reluctant.
He had gone through a lot of trouble to get this appointment!
“Her Highness the Princess has been busy all morning and needs to rest.” Cang Jiuās fox eyes squinted even more. Seeing the Sentinel still wanted to say something, a cold, dark light suddenly flashed in his eyes. “What, are you not planning to live until this afternoon?”
The B-class Sentinel shuddered all over, got up, and slunk away. Receiving Cang Jiuās cold gaze, the other Sentinels immediately shrank their necks and hurriedly left the office.
Once the room was quiet, Xie Qiang spoke. “Why make things difficult for them all of a sudden?”
“Your Highness…” Cang Jiu turned back, looking at her with some helplessness. “Do you really not know, or are you pretending not to know?”
Xie Qiang tilted her head in confusion.
What riddle is he playing now?
“Sigh, you really are…” Cang Jiu grabbed her wrist and walked out of the office. “Follow me.”
Xie Qiang followed in confusion, discovering that Cang Jiu was trailing the Sentinels who had just left, neither too close nor too far.
They were chatting. Although their voices were a bit low, they weren’t inaudible.
“Seriously, the Princess didn’t even say anything. Why did he have to butt in?”
“The Princess is really something too. If she couldn’t purify so many Sentinels in the morning, she should have opened fewer slots! Acting like it’s because of us that she can’t rest.”
“Uh, isn’t it bad to say that? Her Highness is an S-class Guide after all. Condescending to purify B-class Sentinels like us is already special treatment.”
“Please, are you stupid! She was the one who insisted on giving the B-class Guides a holiday. She should be replacing those B-class Guides to purify us!”
The Sentinels’ tone of taking it for granted sounded very grating. Cang Jiu glanced at Xie Qiang, a smile that wasn’t quite a smile playing on his lips. “Your Highness, look. You work so hard to purify them, but they don’t remember your kindness at all.”
There are always some lowly people who, after tasting too many benefits, start to think they deserve it.
My dear Princess, are you very angry right now? Very annoyed? Do you want to chop off their heads immediately?
As long as you say the word…
Ghostly light flickered in Cang Jiuās eyes. Like a fox demon bewitching the mind, he handed a blood-stained knife to the tyrant.
Xie Qiang withdrew her gaze and blinked.
This guy is trying so hard to mess with my mindset. Is it revenge for the pink hair ribbon I gave him yesterday?
Looks like he’s a vengeful little fish.
Xie Qiang didn’t plan to let him succeed. “But, there is still one person speaking up for me.”
Cang Jiu paused.
Xie Qiang narrowed her eyes and smiled, her voice soft and brisk. “What doctor would give up saving lives just because a patient casually complained?”
Many doctors, even after being backstabbed by patients they tried their best to save, still tirelessly shuttled between wards and stood fast at the operating table.
What supported them was never the pursuit of fame and glory, but the professional faith ingrained in their bones and the heavy responsibility for every life.
Seeing Cang Jiu reveal a confused look, she raised her hand and rubbed the youth’s head. “Alright, these are small matters. Let’s go eat!”
The girl walked briskly toward the cafeteria. Behind her, Cang Jiu touched the spot she had just rubbed, a thoughtful look flashing in his eyes.
Saving lives?
He didn’t expect the once cruel and heartless Princess to say such profound words. Cang Jiuās eyes flickered, a strong desire for destruction threatening to burst from his heart.
His Highness is surprisingly kind.
I just wonder, if she suffers backstabbing and blows one after another, will she still remain indifferent and maintain such naive and stupid thoughts?
