Chapter 52: I’m Not That Perverted!
After leaving the purification hall, the girl who was supposed to be in a coma suddenly opened one eye and winked quickly at Mo Yin.
Mo Yin looked back. His wolf ears suddenly popped out and twitched. Confirming no one was following, he quickly retracted them. “No one.”
Xie Qiang then opened both eyes and reached out to pat the black-clad youth’s chest. “Not a bad script, but I wonder if your acting gave us away.”
Mo Yin was silent for a moment before saying, “It didn’t.”
Anyway, everyone believed it.
“That’s good then. It’s just a pity that Sentinels have such a sharp sense of smell, otherwise I would have used some ketchup to pretend I was coughing up blood from overwork.” Xie Qiang felt a bit of regret. “That would have been even more effective.”
Seeing her so regretful, Mo Yin frowned in confusion. “Should have said so. Use my blood.”
Xie Qiang looked at him in horror. “I’m not that perverted!”
Mo Yin: “You used to…”
Xie Qiang: “Shut up!”
Mo Yin: …
She won’t even let me speak.
So overbearing.
Inside his mental sea, the Black Wolf (Tian Lang) was already completely infatuated. The wolf’s head was resting softly against the wall, its eyes narrowed in a drunken daze. “Oh, my overbearing little kitty. She’s so charming, my heart is even fluttering for her.”
Mo Yin: You are a spiritual body.
Tian Lang: “Love can overcome all obstacles.”
Mo Yin: …
In the future, he couldn’t let Tian Lang out.
Back at the rest area, Xie Qiang swapped rooms with Shu Fenghua as they had previously agreed.
Upon learning that Xie Qiang had fainted, Hong Que and Cang Jiu were the first to visit.
“Xie Qiang—” Hong Que’s voice was like a lion’s roar. He pecked at her head with his hand in frustration. “Are you an idiot! It’s just purifying some Sentinels, and you actually worked yourself into a faint?”
“I didn’t faint.” Xie Qiang pushed his hand away and covered her head in dissatisfaction. “I was faking it!”
“That’s still not okay! I also heard you were only sleeping one hour a day!” Hong Que pushed her back onto the bed and tucked her into the covers. “Sleep now. Make up for all those lost hours!”
“I’m not sleepy.” Xie Qiang struggled to sit up, feeling a bit helpless. “I don’t want to sleep!”
“You’ve stayed up so long that you’ve become hyperactive instead. I just need to knock you out.” Hong Que clenched his fist, looking for a suitable amount of force. “I’ll help you!”
Xie Qiang: ???
Get lost!
“That’s enough, you stupid bird.” Cang Jiu, who was standing by, was a bit disgusted by his lack of tact. He pushed him aside and sat on the edge of Xie Qiang’s bed, resting his head on her shoulder. “Does the Imperial Daughter need violent hypnosis? What she clearly needs is for the two of us to peacefully accompany her to sleep.”
Xie Qiang: …
You get lost too.
Xie Qiang reached out to push Cang Jiu’s head off her shoulder, but unexpectedly, the silver-haired youth took the opportunity to grab her hand and gently pressed his lips to the back of it.
“Your Highness~” Cang Jiu raised those beautiful blue fox eyes to stare at the girl, asking the question in his heart, “Why did you suddenly decide to punish Jiang Qingwan?”
Clearly, before, she had looked as if she were being used by Jiang Qingwan without even knowing it.
Heaven knows how many tears of laughter he had shed when he found out she had called Jiang Qingwan up at 3:30 AM and was constantly praising her in front of the Sentinels.
“Killing with kindness” (praising someone to the point where they are set up for failure) was a tactic commonly used by those in high positions. He had thought this Imperial Daughter didn’t understand political maneuvers, but it turns out she just hadn’t been pushed far enough yet.
Cang Jiu’s mood was incredibly pleasant. “I thought Your Highness would keep being used by her.”
Xie Qiang pulled her hand back and rubbed the back of it against Hong Que’s clothes to wipe it. She explained, “Because Sen Ji and Sister Shu didn’t like her.”
Hong Que instantly bristled. “Aaaaah! Take it away! It’s full of that fox’s stinky smell!”
Cang Jiu was stunned for a moment. He watched the girl with a smile as she soothed the bristling Hong Que, his lowered fox eyes trembling slightly.
It wasn’t because she was angry about being used, but because Sen Ji and Shu Fenghua didn’t like it?
“Then what if I don’t like it?” He looked up at Xie Qiang, asking the question for some reason.
Xie Qiang tilted her head and looked at him.
Then she gave a soft smile. “Then you just don’t like it.”
Cang Jiu’s heart jolted. That feeling of uncontrollable unease began to spread again. “Why? Why isn’t Your Highness willing to punish her for my sake?”
What was the difference between him and Sen Ji or Shu Fenghua?
“What else could it be!” Hong Que, who was on the side, said gloatingly, “It’s because you’re too crafty. Who would like someone who’s full of schemes from head to toe?”
Cang Jiu glared at him. “You say that as if the Imperial Daughter would get angry for your sake either.”
What a joke! Xie Qiang liked him so much, how could she not?
Hong Que puffed out his chest confidently. “Xie Qiang! Tell him, are you willing to fly into a rage for my sake?”
Xie Qiang: “No.”
Cang Jiu immediately burst into laughter. “She’s not willing!”
Hong Que’s eyes widened in anger. “Why! Are you doing this on purpose!”
“Why would I fly into a rage for someone who’s afraid to admit they lied and refuses to apologize?” Xie Qiang folded her arms and shrugged her shoulders.
“Wait? You still remember something from that long ago?” Hong Que scratched his hair. Seeing Xie Qiang turn her head away and ignore him, he had no choice but to compromise. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have lied back then.”
Xie Qiang turned back, burst into a laugh, and then answered seriously, “Minister Hong, This Sovereign is willing to fly into a rage for your sake.”
“Cough, I know, I know. I would have known even if you didn’t say it.” Hong Que snorted, the corners of his lips curving up involuntarily.
Cang Jiu blinked, understanding the situation. “So, Your Highness is also angry with me because of that incident.”
She thought the Sentinel’s corpse hung at the cafeteria door was his doing.
The smile on Xie Qiang’s face vanished bit by bit. She lowered her head and remained silent, but her attitude spoke volumes.
Cang Jiu didn’t know whether to praise her for knowing him too well or be sad that she actually thought he would use a corpse to scare her.
“It wasn’t me.”
The silver-haired youth’s back was straight, his voice hard and strained, unlike his usual lazy self. “Will the Imperial Daughter believe me?”
Xie Qiang looked up at him.
The youth’s silver-blue fox eyes looked as if they were about to shatter. His entire exquisite and beautiful face was filled with a deep sense of grievance that made one involuntarily feel sorry for him.
However, in Xie Qiang’s heart, she didn’t feel that strong sense of heartache she felt when facing Sen Ji.
She blinked slowly, then revealed a smile. “Mm, I believe you.”
The girl’s smile was so clear it was flawless, but Cang Jiu could still keenly sense that there was still a high glass wall between them. They could see each other’s sincerity, but for some reason, they couldn’t break through that barrier.
He could only assume that Xie Qiang wanted to trust him, but couldn’t fully believe him in her heart.
And yet, he wanted her to trust him completely.
In the following days, Cang Jiu ran to Xie Qiang’s rest area every few days.
“Your Highness~ what are you doing~”
“Your Highness, aren’t you bored? How about I sneak you out to play?”
“Your Highness~ what’s so good about these books! Could they be better looking than me?”
The silver-haired youth rested his chin on the table, glaring puff-cheeked at the unmoved Xie Qiang. His beautiful silver-white fox ears twitched on top of his head, with a silver bell pinned to one of them, letting out a crisp and pleasant chime.
But the girl across from him was unmoved, continuing to flip through the medical book in her hand.
It was an ancient medical book specially sent by Shu Fenghua, who feared she was too energetic and couldn’t fix her sleep schedule, and had guaranteed it would definitely put her to sleep.
As a result, when she opened it, she found it was just an English version of Systemic Anatomy, with the exact same content as her textbooks back at medical school.
The more she read, the more energetic she became.
