Chapter 7: The Massive, Fluffy Wolf Tail
But Xie Qiang didn’t want to give up, not even on a sliver of hope.
Choking on the water, she struggled and called out, “Mo… cough, cough… Mo Yin…”
Her body felt as if it were tied to a giant rock, sinking rapidly. Xie Qiang closed her eyes tightly, trying hard to hold her breath, her arms still reaching toward the surface in a desperate bid for survival.
Save me…
Anyone…
The only response she received was endless darkness and silence.
The pool water was piercingly cold. Xie Qiangâs consciousness gradually blurred until she finally blacked out completely.
Clang, clangâ
The sound of chains crashing together rang out repeatedly. Before long, within the murky, cold pool water, a long but scarred hand suddenly grabbed the arm of the sinking girl.
Splashâ
Mo Yin emerged from the water, holding the unconscious girl in his arms as he climbed onto the shore and placed her at the edge of the pool.
On the cold-toned porcelain tiles, the girlâs eyes were tightly shut. Her originally fluffy, soft cream-white long hair was matted together, making her look like a little kitten drenched by the rainâutterly pitiful.
She lay motionless, her face frozen white; she looked as if she were already dead.
Mo Yin leaned in like a gray wolf, sniffing the girlâs cheek. After confirming she still had a weak breath, he raised both hands and began to perform chest compressions.
But the girl showed no sign of waking up.
Why isn’t she waking up?
Did he crush her to death?
Thinking of how Hong Que often said Guides were so weak that a single light punch could kill ten of them, Mo Yin lowered his head, his nose nearing her again.
“Coughâ”
Suddenly, the girl coughed violently. Her head jerked up from the force of the cough, her pink lips landing directly on Mo Yinâs approaching nose.
The sudden soft touch brought an unexpected surge of purification power. His body felt a numb sensation as if struck by an electric current. Mo Yinâs dark golden pupils shrank, and a trace of daze flashed across his expressionless face.
Once he regained his senses, he looked at the girl whose face was gradually regaining its color. He silently turned and went back into the water prison pool, re-attaching the heavy chains to his arms.
…
“Hahâ”
Xie Qiang suddenly woke up, coughing loudly. “Cough, cough, cough!”
She was still alive?
She was soaked through, her chest hurt terribly, and for some reason, the back of her head also ached. Xie Qiang clutched her head and sat up with great effort.
But who had saved her?
There were only her and Mo Yin in the water prison. Xie Qiang couldn’t help but look back, only to find Mo Yin still suspended by the iron chains, motionless as if he were a wooden block.
Wasn’t it him?
Thinking that Mo Yin, as her guard, had actually stood by and watched her die, Xie Qiang felt both angry and lingering fear. Her tone couldn’t help but become harsher. “Why didn’t you save me?”
She glared at the chains hanging in mid-air, not believing he couldn’t break free of them.
In the book, the female lead had visited the water prison. She wanted to persuade the villainess to let Mo Yin go, but she was directly pushed into the pool by the impatient villainess.
The female lead called out to Mo Yin for help, and Mo Yin had easily broken free of the chains and saved her.
Thinking of this, Xie Qiangâs cat-like eyes glared at Mo Yin fiercely. “Say something!”
Mo Yin looked up at her.
She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she felt Mo Yinâs gaze drift over her lips before he lowered his eyes again to continue being a wooden block, as if he hadn’t heard a word.
Xie Qiang clenched her fists, her chest heaving with anger.
She was going to be driven mad with rage!
Xie Qiang really wanted to just walk away, but seeing Mo Yin covered in wounds and suspended in the water, she couldn’t bring herself to ignore him completely.
Anger aside, Xie Qiang knew very well that the person Mo Yin didn’t want to save wasn’t “her,” but the villainess of the book.
Taking a few deep breaths to tell herself not to get angry, Xie Qiang looked at the gray-haired young man in the pool. “Mo Yin, the punishment is over. Come up yourself.”
Seeing Mo Yin not moving, she gave a fake cold snort. “You saw it just now; Hong Que is very sick. Do you want to continue being punished and let your brother suffer along with you?”
In the novel, although Mo Yin was taciturn and seemed uninterested in everything, he actually cared quite a bit about his elder brother, Hong Que.
Sure enough, Mo Yinâs body moved slightly. His flat wolf eyes stared at Xie Qiang, as if trying to judge if she was telling the truth.
Finally, he raised his hand, pulled a key from his high ponytail, and unlocked the chains.
Seeing this, Xie Qiang was so angry she laughed. She turned and walked away.
She was so stupid. Mo Yin clearly had a hundred ways to escape the water prison; only she was foolish enough to think Mo Yin was truly being bullied by the villainess.
Behind her was the sound of the young manâs staggering footsteps following her. Xie Qiang didn’t want him to keep up, so she walked faster and faster, but the footsteps behind her also sped up.
She stopped abruptly and turned back to look at Mo Yin, her eyes turning red.
“Mo Yin, do you also think I deserve to die?”
The gray-haired young man didn’t answer, lowering his head silently like a mute gray wolf.
Xie Qiang lowered her eyes dejectedly and gave a bitter laugh.
She turned around and continued walking. Passing by the spot where she had been nearly assassinated earlier, she saw the assassin’s body still lying on the ground. Finally unable to hold back her sadness, she raised a small foot and kicked it hard.
These damn paper characters!
She would never give them a single bit of extra emotion again!
Xie Qiang walked toward her room in a huff. Suddenly, a sound like something being dragged on the floor rang out behind her.
She turned back fiercely, only to see Mo Yin dragging the assassin’s body all the way after her. The blood left a long, terrifying trail on the floor.
Xie Qiang nearly choked on her fright.
Was… was this a silent threat?
Because she had shouted at him earlier?
Fortunately, after dragging the body a few meters, Mo Yin dropped it at a doorway. Xie Qiang looked closely and remembered that it seemed to be Hong Queâs room.
The blood from the assassin’s body quickly spread into Hong Queâs room.
Xie Qiangâs eyes widened slightly. Before she could figure out Mo Yinâs goal, Hong Queâs explosive voice rang out from inside. “F***! Who is it?! Who has the guts to put foul blood in my room!”
Xie Qiang: “!!!”
Realizing Hong Que was about to come out, Xie Qiang ignored everything else, grabbed Mo Yinâs right hand, and quickly fled the scene.
It wasn’t until they ran back to her room that she finally let go of Mo Yinâs hand, doubling over in laughter. “Hahaha! What a pity I didn’t get to see Hong Queâs furious face!”
She turned back to tell Mo Yin he did a good job, but was surprised to find that two large, pointed wolf ears had popped up in front of Mo Yinâs high ponytail. Behind him, a massive, fluffy gray wolf tail had also grown out, wagging vigorously against the wall, making “thump, thump” sounds.
Mo Yin kept his head down, his expression obscured by his bangs. He desperately tried to press down the wildly wagging wolf tail, only to have it “smack” him hard on the arm. His already scarred arm immediately turned red.
Mo Yin: “…”
Xie Qiang couldn’t help but laugh again. “Pfft.”
This scene was simply too cute.
But why did Mo Yinâs wolf ears and tail suddenly pop out?
Did he want her to give him some soothing purification?
Thinking of her hand being slapped by Sen Ji earlier, Xie Qiang bit her lip and only tentatively reached out her hand this time.
Before she could touch the wolf ears that looked so good to pet, Mo Yin turned his head away, clearly resisting having his ears touched by Xie Qiang.
But that wolf tail was already impatient, pouncing onto Xie Qiangâs cheek and rubbing against her face repeatedly.
It felt ticklish. Xie Qiang reached out and held the wildly moving wolf tail. Beneath her hand was the sensation of fur as soft as a ball of cotton, making her squeeze it gently.
Mo Yinâs body trembled slightly. He rareley showed a hint of a powerful aura, but he suddenly yanked back the wolf tail that was wagging in Xie Qiangâs hand.
“Don’t move.”
His tone was very stiff.
The smile on Xie Qiangâs face froze. She gave a self-deprecating shrug and opened the door to enter her room.
She was soaked through and felt very uncomfortable. Xie Qiang found some clean clothes and went into the bathroom to wash up.
When she came out and saw Mo Yin still standing at the door, she lowered her eyes and bit her lip. Finally, she dug out a first-aid kit, strode over, and shoved it heavily into Mo Yinâs arms.
“For you!” Leaving behind those words, she closed the door in a huff.
Mo Yin looked down at the first-aid kit in his arms. His flat wolf eyes showed no emotion. After a long while, he held the first-aid kit and squatted down against the wall.
