Chapter 5: Former Idol Becomes Stepdad
An unpleasant gathering made the seconds feel like years for Ruan Yi. Listening to the hypocritical harmony at the dinner table, Ruan Yi just felt she had lost her appetite.
Not long after, she found an excuse to leave.
Coming out of the restroom, she had just raised her hand to tidy up some messy hair strands.
Looking up, she crashed straight into Fu Jingchenās playful, smiling eyes.
He tilted his head slightly.
“Ruan Yi, are you angry?” His voice was magnetic and deep.
Ruan Yi felt uncomfortable as soon as she heard his voice and subconsciously wanted to roll her eyes.
“Angry? What reason do I have to be angry at the Professor?” Although she said this, her expression was unnatural.
The corners of Fu Jingchenās mouth hooked into a barely-there smile, as if he had expected her to answer this way.
He slowly raised his hand and gently patted her head. His fingers passed through her smooth hair with indulgence.
“Xiao Yi used to always stare at me with bright eyes. Now, Xiao Yi seems…”
“Like you really want to bite me?”
Ruan Yi was stiffened by the sudden action and bounced away violently. The stray hairs on her head stood up again.
“Don’t touch my head!”
Fu Jingchen laughed quietly.
Cute… like a kitten having a stress reaction.
“Because of the relationship between me and your mother?”
Ruan Yi could still faintly feel the warmth of the man’s large hand on the top of her head. That temperature seemed to spread through her scalp to her whole body, making her incredibly ashamed. Yes, too ashamed.
Because in her past life, before Ruan Yi knew Fu Jingchenās true colors, she had always had a secret crush on him. No, actually, it was an open crush.
Ruan Yi was obsessed with looks, and Fu Jingchen happened to be damn handsome. His body was great too. The first time she attended his class, Ruan Yi almost drooled.
When the man taught, he always wore a black shirt with the second button slightly loose, revealing the vague lines of his collarbone under cool white skin.
His cuffs were rolled up to above his forearms. The muscles of his forearms bulged slightly with his writing movements, and pale blue veins snaked under his skin. He also always wore rimless glasses.
It was simply seduction!
Women; it’s hard to avoid being sentimental.
Fu Jingchen only had two classes a week. Ruan Yi sat in the corner of the front few rows every time, staring at Fu Jingchen hungrily while swallowing saliva.
There was no helping it. With this level of superb male beauty, not looking would make one not a true woman.
But Ruan Yi only looked at his face and didn’t listen to the lecture. In the mid-term assessment, she failed magnificently. It was evident she hadn’t listened to a single thing.
And Fu Jingchen didn’t give her a single pity point! Clearly, just two more points and she could have scraped by.
And she was the only one called to the office by Fu Jingchen. Ruan Yi was so angry she stared him down, big eyes against small eyes. So handsome, yet absolutely no compassion.
A nameless fire!
“Student Ruan Yi is clearly very serious in class normally, only it seems you aren’t studying?”
“Teacher, I was wrong…”
Not studying meant the student was in the wrong after all. Ruan Yi lowered her head, preparing to be scolded. Hearing no follow-up sentence for a long time, she secretly looked up.
Fu Jingchenās eyes narrowed slightly. Staring at the girl in front of him, his eyes held a trace of a smile.
“Student Ruan Yi is very serious… if not studying, then what were you doing?”
What were you doing? So hard to guess.
The tips of Ruan Yiās ears were completely pink. Her head dipped so low she looked like an ostrich. She always felt the person in front of her seemed to be teasing her.
Later, Ruan Yi often went to Fu Jingchen to ask questions after class.
In order not to fail, and incidentally to look at the handsome guy.
It was just that Fu Jingchen seemed to be always busy. Except for the days he had classes, he was never seen at A University.
While patiently guiding her studies, Fu Jingchen would also let Ruan Yi taste the desserts in his office. If she was thirsty, there was black tea he brewed himself. He really knew how to take care of students.
She just didn’t know why, despite clearly being an existence with many fangirls and fanboys, only her own figure ever came and went from his office.
Of course, this was all preface.
After all, Ruan Yi already knew his true colors, and the former idol was about to become a stepfather.
With Ruan Yi’s current state of mind, looking at this hypocrite who posed as a man of high morals, she only wanted to snap his neck.
“There is nothing between your mother and me.” His voice sounded slightly helpless.
Yes, yes, yes. Bringing him home to live was just for playing house.
Of course Ruan Yi knew there was nothing. If there really was something, would he still target Gu Zhi? Damn marriage fraudster.
And why tell her this? Did he expect her to relay it to Gu Zhi? Damn pervert.
Ruan Yi tilted her head back slightly, looked into Fu Jingchenās eyes, and a surge of indescribable awkwardness rose in her heart.
Those hatreds she thought were clear seemed to blur at this moment. How could someone be so good at pretending?
“In what capacity is Mr. Fu saying these words to me?”
“Professor, or my prospective stepfather?”
Fu Jingchen stared at the girl in front of him, not wanting to miss a single expression of hers.
“In the capacity of Fu Jingchen.”
Ruan Yi scoffed coldly, crossed her arms, and rolled a small white eye at the man in front of her.
Fu Jingchen didn’t get annoyed; he kept smiling.
“I advise the Professor to go back as soon as possible, lest my mom comes looking for you.” She turned and walked away quickly.
Fu Jingchen watched her back, his smile gradually disappearing.
A trace of complex emotion flashed in his eyes. It took a long while before he moved his long legs to follow.
The manās gaze focused on her back, like melted syrup, sticking to the swaying arc of her hair tips.
His Adam’s apple rolled lightly. His gaze moved down from her hair. Her lithe, soft body was hidden under the haute couture dress, and her lower back was a patch of sheer white gauze.
The slender waist that twisted slightly with her walking hooked his pupils into focusing into burning pinpoints, as if he wanted to burn a hole through that patch of fair skin on her lower back.
Until she stepped into the private room door and her slender, graceful figure disappeared from sight.
Fu Jingchen calmly retracted his gaze, but the dark tide surging in his eyes didn’t have time to be restrained.
Inside the car on the return journey, Ruan Yi fell into contemplation. She habitually bit her lower lip, brows slightly furrowed.
Right now, she couldn’t stop Fu Jingchen from entering the Ruan family. She had to watch him closely.
The primary task was to find the way her mother was drugged and kill the bad ending in the cradle ahead of time.
Gu Zhi looked at Ruan Yi beside him. her gaze was a bit unfocused; clearly, she had fallen into deep thought.
Outside the car window, the street scene retreated continuously. The colorful lights flickering on her face failed to pull her back from her thoughts, so there was even less worry that his silent gaze would be discovered by her.
Several message notification sounds suddenly rang out, breaking the silence in the car and also interrupting her train of thought.
Ruan Yi started slightly. The message sounds didn’t stop; instead, they rang more frequently. She turned to look at Gu Zhi beside her.
Did he forget to mute his phone today?
It was late at night; what messages were so numerous?
A flash of curiosity passed through Ruan Yiās eyes. Her small head secretly stretched toward him, her eyes slanting like the little figure on a Wangzai milk can.
The manās Adam’s apple moved.
How could he not discover it? After all, when Ruan Yi leaned just a little closer…
That unique scent of hers made his mouth dry and tongue parched.
It wasn’t perfume; it was the smell from her skin.
Really want to…
“If Sister wants to see, you can just say so. I won’t refuse Sister.” Gu Zhiās voice was inexplicably somewhat resentful.
“Cough, cough, who said I wanted to look?”
The fuzzy head retracted.
One second, two seconds, three.
“But having said that~ Whose messages are they?”
The girl’s soft body shifted, and she pasted herself over with a grin.
Gu Zhi held back a smile. “Hmm… this person, Sister might be a little surprised. It’s Shen Xun.”
Ruan Yiās face, which had been smiling a second ago, instantly turned iron-green.
