Chapter 34: A Quarter-Sized Ice Block part 1
After a series of thrilling drifts and sharp turns, the car entered the city and finally shook off the pursuers.
Jiang Zhaosheng parked the car in the parking lot below his apartment building. Inside the car, only the sound of their mismatched, heavy breathing remained.
Qin Yichuan was abnormally silent during the second half of the trip. The sulkiness and defiance on his face had long vanished, leaving only a blank state of shock.
He watched blankly as Jiang Zhaosheng efficiently unbuckled his seatbelt, unlocked the door, and got out.
Then, his own car door was opened.
The air rushed in. Jiang Zhaosheng seemed to say something, but the sound felt blurred, as if heard through water.
“Pah!”
After the slap, Qin Yichuan finally snapped back to reality, clutching his stinging cheek.
“…You hit me?”
“I asked, do you have a tracking device on you?”
Having said that, Jiang Zhaosheng reached for Qin Yichuanâs collarâ
“Wait a second! Don’t touch me!”
Unfortunately, Jiang Zhaosheng had no patience for him. He searched the man roughly, unfastening the bulletproof suit and going straight for his shirt.
“…Jiang Zhaosheng!”
Qin Yichuanâs face turned completely red, like a boiled shrimp. He covered his chest with one hand and his face with the other, peering at Jiang Zhaosheng through his fingers like he was looking at a hooligan.
“I know your husband is dead, but you can’t be this…” His voice grew lower and lower, finally ending in a mosquito-like mumble, “…hun… gry.”
“Put your hands down,” Jiang Zhaosheng sneered, grabbing his collar to haul him up from the passenger seat. “Look at me.”
It had to be said, Jiang Zhaoshengâs voice was naturally beautifulâas clear and cold as broken ice hitting a wall. This caused Qin Yichuan to completely ignore the danger in his tone, wanting only to look at him once more.
“Pah!”
The other side of his face, which hadn’t been slapped, was also imprinted with a red palm mark. Qin Yichuan felt as if lava was erupting in his brain.
“Are you addicted to hitting me? Jiang Zhaosheng, do you really think you’re an Omega and believe I won’t fight back?”
He regretted it as soon as he said it. There was no joy of a successful prank in Jiang Zhaoshengâs eyes, only deep annoyance. Qin Yichuanâs intuition told him that if he didn’t find a way to make amends, Jiang Zhaosheng would definitely abandon him, and he wouldn’t be lucky enough to find his trail again…
But he couldn’t just take two slaps for no reason, could he? Everyone has a temper. If he let this become a habit, wouldn’t he be… domestic-abused every day in the future?
While Qin Yichuan was still wrestling with his thoughts, a light sigh came from above.
“Youâre right. An Omega wouldn’t be as base (xiĂ jiĂ n) as me.”
Qin Yichuan felt his heart suddenly drop.
Jiang Zhaosheng didn’t give him any more time to daze. He grabbed the man’s arm and practically dragged him out of the car. Qin Yichuan stumbled as he was pushed into the elevator and then into Jiang Zhaoshengâs apartment.
With a “thud,” the door closed behind them, shutting out the rest of the world.
Jiang Zhaoshengâs home was a large, single-floor apartment with great light and the scent of citrus air freshener. The decor was warm and lived-in; even Qin Yichuan felt his spirit unconsciously relax after entering.
While Qin Yichuan was debating whether to wear shoe covers at the door, Jiang Zhaosheng had already stripped off his coat, tossed it into the laundry basket, and walked straight to the bar in the corner of the living room to pour himself a glass of ice water. He needed to calm down, or at least not slaughter Qin Yichuan like a pig right now.
Just then, the doorbell rang abruptly.
Jiang Zhaosheng put down his glass, his eyes devoid of emotion. Qin Yichuan instinctively tensed, looking at the door with vigilance.
“Itâs not the pursuers,” Jiang Zhaosheng explained to him.
âHe had access to the building’s surveillance.
Walking to the door, Jiang Zhaosheng gave him a push as if he were in the way and looked through the peephole.
Standing outside was Samuel. His blonde hair was a bit messy, and his usual smile was on his face as he raised a hand to ring the bell again. Half a step behind him stood the expressionless Lin Xuan, holding a snow-white Angora cat in his arms.
Why are there two of them… and since a student is here, itâs not convenient to discuss business.
Jiang Zhaosheng took a deep breath and opened the door.
“Hey! Baby,” Samuel greeted with a smile. His sharp gaze bypassed Jiang Zhaosheng and landed on the somewhat bedraggled Qin Yichuan behind him, who still had blood on his face. His eyebrows shot up. “Wow, it seems I came at a bad time? And this is…?”
Lin Xuan also saw the situation inside, especially Qin Yichuanâs clearly abnormal state and his wounds. His arms tightened around the cat, causing the white cat to let out a dissatisfied “meow.”
“Come in first.” Jiang Zhaosheng stepped aside to let them in.
There was no smile in Samuelâs eyes. He scrutinized Qin Yichuan “with great interest” as he walked into the living room behind Jiang Zhaosheng.
Lin Xuan followed quietly, trying to minimize his presence as much as possible, his gaze darting between Jiang Zhaosheng and Qin Yichuan.
“Darling, though I don’t know where you went,” Samuel sat down on the sofa, his eyes locked onto Jiang Zhaosheng, his entire body radiating a “notice me” energy, “I still managed to get some interesting news…”
Having seen many “playboys” around Jiang Zhaosheng, Qin Yichuan couldn’t help but let out a contemptuous sneer.
Samuel turned his head to look at him, but Qin Yichuan avoided his gaze. He wasn’t like the “pretty boys” around Jiang Zhaosheng; he wouldn’t compete for Jiang Zhaoshengâs attention.
…Too cheap, he thought disdainfully.
“Thanks. I was just about to…”
“Cough, cough, cough!”
Jiang Zhaosheng looked over with a frown. Qin Yichuan could only signal him with his eyes: Don’t speak. This is our secret.
“What are you doing with those meaningful looks?”
Qin Yichuanâs loyalty to the organizationâthis point alone made him loathsome in Jiang Zhaoshengâs eyes, let alone the fact that the organization belonged to Shen Qiming.
Lin Xuan gently placed the cat on the floor. The white cat elegantly padded to the soft cushion at Jiang Zhaoshengâs feet and lay down, its blue eyes curiously watching the new strangers.
Lin Xuan tried to find some usefulness to avoid being kicked out quickly, looking at Jiang Zhaosheng: “Do you need me to help deal with…”
He gestured toward the wounds on Qin Yichuanâs face.
Jiang Zhaosheng rubbed his temples, just about to speakâ
His phone suddenly rang with a specific video call tone. The name jumping on the screen was “Jiang Wan.”
Jiang Zhaoshengâs expression changed slightly.
Samuel reacted incredibly fast, grasping the situation almost instantly.
The man was like an agile leopard, silently sliding open the glass balcony door and slipping inside, quickly vanishing into the shadows behind the curtains. The entire process didn’t make a single unnecessary sound.
Lin Xuan also didn’t hesitate, turning and ducking into the nearest bathroom, softly closing the door.
Only Qin Yichuan was left stunned on the spot, seemingly having not yet recovered from the series of changes. The only thing he could think of was “main wife checking in,” his face a mask of bewilderment and post-traumatic blankness.
“Hide!” Jiang Zhaosheng pointed at him urgently, his voice filled with both anxiety and anger as the ringing was about to reach the automatic hang-up point.
Being pointed at, Qin Yichuan looked around in a panic and finally had a brain cramp… and dove right under the coffee table in the center of the living room!
Jiang Zhaosheng could hardly bear to look. The coffee table was made of transparent glass. Qin Yichuanâs tall frame was curled up underneath; there was no way to hide a grown man there.
It was a classic case of “thereâs no buried gold here” (giving himself away)…
He could only adjust the screen, aiming the camera from the neck up.
“Jiang Zhaosheng,” Jiang Wanâs face occupied the entire screen, her eyebrows raised in dissatisfaction, “youâve rejected my calls three times in the last two days. Youâd better give me a reasonable explanation.”
“Ah, well…” Jiang Zhaosheng quickly adjusted his facial expression, his voice light and natural. “I just got home from dinner and a walk. What about you? Not in bed yet?”
“What have you been doing these past few days? Messages unanswered, calls not going through. Shang Yanâs phone has also been busy.”
“Wait a second. Why are you looking for… student Shang?”
“I heard someone has been asking about you again, and there are some rumors at school… I originally wanted Shang Yan to help deal with it. Heâs the best at handling people with bad intentions.”
“But letting him handle it is a bit…”
