THE REBATE SYSTEM OF SUDDEN WEALTH CHAPTER 74

Chapter 74: True Nature

“I’m sorry, really, I know I’m wrong.”

“We can’t go to jail; it’ll be on our records; our lives will be ruined.”

After Gu Wanrong stopped, Xu Rong and Jiang Yanya apologized even more vehemently, believing that if they were sufficiently pitiful and humble, Gu Wanrong would forgive them.

Gu Wanrong knew that their fervent apologies and regrets stemmed from their inability to bear the consequences of her counterattack, not from genuine remorse for their malicious slander.

These two, who had once spread rumors and caused trouble with impunity, hadn’t truly understood the severity of their actions. Their so-called repentance was merely a calculation based on self-interest.

Gradually, a crowd gathered, curiously watching the unfolding scene.

Xu Rong’s mother, who had been silently weeping, suddenly raised her head, her eyes tearful as she looked at Gu Wanrong, pleading, “Gu, this hasn’t caused you any real harm. Please have mercy and let my daughter go.”

“If I hadn’t hired a lawyer to sue you, if I didn’t have the ability, if I had been soft-hearted, my life might have ended up like those innocent people you maliciously harmed—in the abyss.”

Gu Wanrong looked down at Xu Rong and Jiang Yanya, her expression cold, her tone resolute.

“My dad already paid them; it’s over!” Xu Rong, tears streaming down her face, sobbed, but still instinctively refuted.

Jiang Yanya kept her head down, her expression unseen, but when Xu Rong refuted, she didn’t apologize or object as before, clearly agreeing with Xu Rong.

“I’m sorry, but to teach you a lesson, Lawyer Luo found those who were bullied by you and filed a lawsuit against both of you.”

As she spoke, Gu Wanrong extended her slender fingers, first tapping Xu Rong, then pointing at the impassive Jiang Yanya, finally returning her finger to Xu Rong.

“Three years ago, when you were in your first year of high school, a new classmate named Xiao Ke transferred in. She was pretty, fair, and gentle, and everyone liked her. But soon, rumors spread that she had plastic surgery at a young age and was involved with older men outside of school. These rumors drove her to depression and a suicide attempt. She jumped and became a vegetable, still in the hospital.”

“Back then, Xiaorong’s father already gave the girl’s family a large sum of money, and her family signed a settlement agreement, forgiving Xiaorong.” Xu Rong’s mother explained softly, as if the matter were settled and needed no further mention.

Xu Rong herself also had the air of it being a closed chapter.

But Gu Wanrong suddenly turned, her eyes as cold as ice, staring intently at Xu Rong’s seemingly delicate mother.

“Money? Signatures? If Xiao Ke’s family didn’t have two elderly people needing long-term hospital care, and if your people weren’t constantly causing trouble at their small restaurant, they wouldn’t have silently endured it, would they?”

Gu Wanrong questioned them without reservation; the whole family was rotten to the core.

Seizing the opportunity, Jiang Yanya’s mother interjected, “That was all Xu Rong! Her family! My daughter never did anything so heartless!”

As she spoke, she waved her arms, trying to make her words more persuasive.

“Your good daughter’s role wasn’t simple.” Gu Wanrong pointed at Xu Rong, then pointed directly at Jiang Yanya, looking at the mother and daughter, “Xiao Ke wasn’t pretty enough for high school students under immense pressure to know her, but Jiang Yanya helped a lot!”

Gu Wanrong’s voice became harsher; she took a deep breath.

“She first built Xiao Ke up, then told Xu Rong that Xiao Ke deliberately stole the spotlight that should have belonged to Xu Rong, then she incited Xu Rong to bully and suppress Xiao Ke.”

As Gu Wanrong recounted Jiang Yanya’s actions from years ago, her own emotions intensified, her chest heaving violently, clearly enraged.

Gu Wanrong believed Jiang Yanya’s heart was blacker than ink; it was appalling.

“How could you do such a thing!” Jiang Yanya’s mother wailed, falling on top of Jiang Yanya, slapping her while begging Gu Wanrong, “Let’s make a deal. Let this heartless girl apologize and serve you; let her be a servant. Don’t sue her; my son is still young and mustn’t be implicated.”

Xu Rong also fell on Jiang Yanya, venting her anger by wildly hitting her and cursing, “Bitch, you deliberately harmed me!”

Jiang Yanya, who had been repeatedly hit by her mother and Xu Rong, seemed to have reached her limit and suddenly exploded.

Two dull thuds echoed. Jiang Yanya, using all her strength, pushed her mother and Xu Rong away.

“It’s all because of you, all because of you! You always made me curry favor with the rich; at home, I had to please you and Dad, not to mention your precious son!

In your eyes, I have no place.

Why? Why did Xiao Ke’s parents only have one daughter and love and care for her so much?

Even her grandmother, who was sick, would still bring her lunch to school every day!

She even pretended to complain to me, saying she was persuading her grandmother to stop sending lunch, that she wanted to eat in the cafeteria with me!”

Jiang Yanya’s long-accumulated grievances, suppressed emotions, and silence erupted like a volcano.

Jiang Yanya, with her hair disheveled from being hit, disregarded everything, vehemently accusing and venting.

“Why didn’t she die when she jumped? That way, Xu Rong couldn’t be so high and mighty, and even if your father spent a lot of money, he couldn’t save you!

She became a vegetable, yet her parents still cared for her every day. She’s a burden! Why?

Now they’re suing me! I didn’t do anything! It was all Xu Rong!”

Jiang Yanya, in a state of frenzy, turned her head, her eyes filled with resentment and madness, fixated on Xu Rong, venting her anger.

Then, she haphazardly combed her hair and knelt down, kowtowing frantically.

“Gu Wanrong, please let me finish university and find a stable job. Then, I’ll serve Xiao Ke like a cow or horse.

I really have nothing; I have no family, only myself. Please, out of our shared helplessness, don’t send me to jail.

Please.”

The dull thud of her head against the ground was unsettling; she was trying to prove her sincerity.

Gu Wanrong stepped back, maintaining a distance from Jiang Yanya, before saying, word by word, “No, we are not the same. I would never, out of jealousy, plot to harm others like you.”

Then, Gu Wanrong slightly turned her head, approached Tong Shenba, and said softly, “Let’s go; there’s no need to stay here and tangle with them any longer.”
