Chapter 15: Obedient Son, Miss Your Dad?
Song Xingmian’s slightly upturned eyes finally leveled out, and the smile at the corner of his mouth faded into coldness. His amber eyes were filled with naked obsession as he said viciously, “You’re only capable of these despicable tactics.”
Fu Xingjian smiled breezily. His tone was light and slow, yet every word struck the heart. “Why do you care what tactics I use? As long as they work.”
The gloom in the depths of Song Xingmian’s eyes finally surged out completely. He huffed heavily, his voice full of malice. “Just wait and see. Brother won’t let you do whatever you want.”
Fu Xingjian strode toward the elevator, saying without looking back, “Then let’s try and see.”
Song Xingmian’s jawline tightened uncontrollably. His face was terrifyingly grim, as if the shadow in his eyes was about to spill over.
Gu Yanxiu, who had been watching the show from the side, finally stepped forward. He smiled slightly at him, his tone gentle and composed. “Do what you should at your age. Little friend, study hard and stay out of adult affairs.”
With that, he stepped forward to follow the figure ahead, leaving Song Xingmian alone in the hospital corridor.
The elevator had already gone down. Song Xingmian stared at the elevator doors with a fluctuating expression. The anger on his face had subsided a lot, replaced by doubt and confusion.
Something was wrong.
He remembered their relationship wasn’t this good before. More accurately, the relationship between the four of them behind the scenes was about the same—they only put up a facade of loving each other in front of Brother.
But now, they seemed to be standing on the same front.
Was it to join forces and kick him out of the game?
Song Xingmian’s hands, hanging by his sides, clenched into fists. Impossible. Brother was his, and could only be his. No one could butt in.
The elevator came back up, but Song Xingmian didn’t take it. Instead, he pushed open the stairwell door, leaned against the wall, and dialed a number.
The phone rang twice before being picked up. An impatient male voice came from the other end. “What is it?”
Song Xingmian put the phone to his ear and spoke. “Lin Shiyu.”
The other side was even more impatient. “Why the dawdling? If you have something to say, say it.”
Song Xingmian tutted softly, dragging out his tone. “What’s the rush? I finally came back from abroad; aren’t we going to get together?”
Lin Shiyu’s tone was cold and hard. “I’m hanging up if you don’t speak.”
Song Xingmian finally got to the point. “Brother is back. Did you know?”
Of course Lin Shiyu knew. Although his current power wasn’t equal to theirs, he wasn’t without capable people. His subordinates had reported Wen Yuhuai’s return to him long ago. However, he was entangled by people sent by Father Lin and couldn’t get away for the moment.
“I’m going to the hospital to see him tomorrow. Anything else?”
Song Xingmian simply sighed. “Tomorrow? By the time you come tomorrow, Brother might have already been abducted by them.”
Lin Shiyu’s fingers gripping the phone tightened abruptly. “What do you mean?”
Song Xingmian’s tone was innocent. “Literal meaning. Alright, won’t talk more. I’m going home. See you at the hospital tomorrow.”
After speaking, he hung up decisively and walked slowly down the stairs, disregarding how the person on the other end would react.
In the ward, Jiang Jing checked the time and sat down on the chair by the bed. “Just wait. The housekeeper is coming soon. She made your favorite lotus root and rib soup.”
Wen Yuhuai nodded obediently and said okay, then asked the most critical question. “Mom, has the person who kidnapped me been found?”
Jiang Jing looked very fatigued. rubbing her temples, she said, “That’s what I went out to call about just now. Your dad sent people to check the surveillance at that intersection, but it turned out to be a black screen.”
Wen Yuhuai continued to press. “Can it be recovered?”
He planned to take good revenge on that man once he was found. It would be too stifling if he couldn’t be found.
Jiang Jing shook her head. “It’s a bit difficult. That person likely hacked the surveillance system and permanently deleted that footage.”
Wen Yuhuai couldn’t hide his disappointment, but he knew that since the person dared to do such a thing, he must have planned a foolproof strategy in advance. Not catching him was within reason.
Jiang Jing touched his head soothingly, smoothing down a cowlick on his head. “That person kidnapped you for half a month but didn’t call to blackmail us. Obviously, it wasn’t for money. If it was revenge, he didn’t do anything to you. Could it just be a prank?”
Bullshit.
Wen Yuhuai was filled with grief and indignation but couldn’t say a word.
That man did more than a little bit to him. He did everything he could and couldn’t do, and more than once. He even messed him up to the point of mental abnormality.
He felt it was necessary to see a psychiatrist. Otherwise, how could he go out and have fun in the future if he was scared of his own shadow?
But there was one important thing before seeing a psychiatrist.
Wen Yuhuai sat up straight holding the blanket like an elementary school student, looking at Jiang Jing sincerely. “Mom, find me two bodyguards.”
Jiang Jing nodded without surprise. “Your dad is already finding them for you. By the time you are discharged, the bodyguards should be ready for duty.”
Wen Yuhuai finally felt at ease. With bodyguards, what did he have to fear? If that perverted psycho dared to kidnap him again without knowing death, he would beat him until he looked for his teeth on the floor.
He lay back comfortably and began to fiddle with the three new phones on the bedside table.
The three phones were the same model and configuration, only different colors. Wen Yuhuai didn’t care about the color, so to save trouble, he chose the one with his original SIM card.
He re-verified and logged in. As soon as he logged into his social media apps, message notifications bombarded him instantly, ringing for several minutes before finally stopping.
Wen Yuhuai scrolled through them. Many were from people who heard about his disappearance and came to ask after him. He picked a few close friends to reply to, and finally, his gaze stopped on Lin Shiyu’s avatar.
He was a bit surprised not to see him at the hospital today when he woke up. After all, among the group, they had known each other the longest. They were truly childhood sweethearts—bamboo horses.
Pui pui pui, what bamboo horses? They were childhood buddies.
Thinking it over, Wen Yuhuai clicked on his avatar and poked him playfully.
He was just about to exit the chat interface after poking when he saw “Typing…” appear at the top.
Wen Yuhuai wasn’t in a rush anymore. He stayed on the interface calmly to see what he would say.
Result: he waited for a full five minutes, and it still said “Typing…”
???
What is this guy doing? Writing an emotional essay?
He couldn’t resist sending a “black guy question mark face” meme. The “Typing…” at the top disappeared immediately.
“…”
Wen Yuhuai simply typed and asked: [Good son, miss your daddy?]
He originally thought Lin Shiyu wouldn’t pay attention to his cheekiness. But two seconds later, he saw the message Lin Shiyu sent.
The content was concise, just two words: [Missed you.]
