The Straight Heartthrob: Ruthlessly Forced by a Madman Chapter 20

Chapter 20: Fair Competition

“Speak. What exactly do you want with me?”

Lin Shiyu put down the cup in his hand and looked at him expressionlessly. Even the casual outfit couldn’t hide the ruffian vibe on him. “You like Ah Yu too.”

It should have been a question, but he used a certain tone.

Gu Yanxiu laughed softly, asking back without changing his expression, “Didn’t you know that long ago?”

Lin Shiyu’s expression became visibly gloomier. Indeed, he had vaguely sensed before that the way these people looked at Wen Yuhuai wasn’t innocent.

When Wen Yuhuai suddenly went missing recently, their united effort to find him made it clear to him: they all coveted the same person.

Lin Shiyu was like a trapped beast in a cage, speaking through gritted teeth: “He is mine—”

Gu Yanxiu wasn’t affected by his emotions at all. He spoke calmly, “Yours? On what grounds do you say that?”

Lin Shiyu was quiet for a few seconds before speaking in a low, hoarse voice, “Clearly, I knew him first.”

Gu Yanxiu was amused by this sentence. “So? You were years earlier than us, yet proximity didn’t help you win the moon. You haven’t coaxed him into your hands. Do you want us to pity you?”

Silence reigned for a long while. Lin Shiyu looked up straight at him. “From now on, fair competition. No one is allowed to use underhanded tricks behind the scenes.”

Gu Yanxiu glanced at him. “You shouldn’t be saying this only to me. What about those two? Can they use tricks?”

Lin Shiyu frowned irritably. “I will talk to them. Just manage yourself.”

Gu Yanxiu slowly retracted his smile, speaking word by word: “Agreed.”

Lin Shiyu’s brow finally relaxed slightly. He stood up and strode toward the door. Gu Yanxiu watched his back and spoke unhurriedly, “It’s lunchtime. Not staying for a meal?”

Lin Shiyu didn’t look back. “No. Have things at the company. Going back.”

The door opened and closed before his eyes. Gu Yanxiu withdrew his gaze and looked at the floor-to-ceiling window. After a long while, he suddenly laughed out loud. The laughter carried a hint of contempt. “Without the Lin family, he really thinks he’s hot shit. What kind of thing is he, thinking he can compete with me?”

During lunch, Jiang Jing and Wen Chenglin arrived. Seeing his biological father, Wen Yuhuai raised a paw and waved. “Yo, Old Wen, finished busy work?”

Wen Chenglin pretended to be stern. “No respect for elders. Is that how you talk to your dad?”

Wen Yuhuai ate the three dishes and one soup sent by Auntie Chen while looking at them. “Eaten yet? Sit down and have some?”

Wen Chenglin ignored him. Pulling up a chair, he sat down and asked directly, “Are the exam results out? How is it? No problems, right?”

Wen Yuhuai’s hand holding the chopsticks paused. He turned his head to look innocently at the two, specifically looking at Jiang Jing. “Mom, you too. You knew I had a physical exam today. Why didn’t you stop Auntie Chen when she said she was bringing me breakfast yesterday?”

Jiang Jing obviously remembered this too. She slapped her thigh. “Forgot.”

Wen Chenglin looked speechlessly at this mother and son. After looking for a long time, he admitted defeat and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Do it tomorrow?”

Wen Yuhuai nodded. “Rest assured, Dad. Tomorrow morning I definitely won’t eat anything, won’t even drink water.”

Wen Chenglin didn’t have time to haggle with him about this. He just said, “Suit yourself, as long as your body is fine.”

After sitting in the ward for a while, Wen Chenglin spoke again. “By the way, your brother heard about your incident. He’s coming back next week.”

Wen Yuhuai’s chopsticks froze in mid-air again. “My brother is coming back?”

Wen Chenglin looked at him strangely, nodding as a matter of course. “Something this big happened to you; of course he has to come back.”

Wen Yuhuai simply put down his chopsticks, muttering softly, “Isn’t it very busy over there? Can he get away?”

Wen Chenglin glanced at his phone, took a moment to reply to a message, and looked at him again. “You’ve been missing for over half a month. Even big matters have to be put aside to come back first.”

Wen Yuhuai said nothing more, only feeling a little apprehensive.

He had run rampant in the Wen family since childhood, fearing nothing in heaven or earth, but he was most afraid of his big brother, Wen Yuzhou. If he made a mistake, his brother would really beat him, and no one could stop it. As a result, he now avoided him like a mouse seeing a cat.

Of course, the Wen parents had high hopes for Wen Yuzhou. Before graduating from university, he was allowed to try taking over the family company. Since then, Wen Yuhuai only saw him during holidays. Until now, Wen Yuzhou had become independent, managing the company in an orderly manner.

Wen Chenglin checked the time again and got up to walk out. “Alright, lie honestly in the hospital. I’m going to the company; have some matters to handle.”

Wen Yuhuai nodded obediently.

Walking to the ward door, his hand already on the handle, Wen Chenglin turned back to look at him, smiling yet not smiling. “Right, forgot to tell you one thing. You’re not young anymore; it’s time to enter the company. Go directly to work after you are discharged.”

With that, ignoring the reaction of the person behind him, Wen Chenglin quickly pushed the door open and left, closing it behind him. After walking several steps, he could vaguely hear wailing from the VIP ward.

“No! My big brother is doing perfectly fine in the company. Why stuff me in there? What use am I?”

Jiang Jing rolled her eyes at him. “So you know you’re useless too.”

Wen Yuhuai quibbled, “No, I didn’t mean that.”

Jiang Jing: “Then what do you mean?”

Wen Yuhuai simply laid his cards on the table. “Mom, I don’t want to join the company.”

Jiang Jing scoffed again. “Don’t want to join the company? Do you really want to be a second-generation layabout for life? Before, you were young, so we let you play for two more years if you wanted. How old are you this year? Shiyu has already started a business and is doing serious work. Look at you, cheerful all day long, only knowing how to play.”

Wen Yuhuai really wanted to be a second-generation layabout for life. It would be best if someone raised him forever. In his past life, he was a corporate slave until he was burnt out. He finally saved some money, only to be hit by a car upon leaving the company. Was there anyone more miserable than him?

Now that he finally didn’t have to be a corporate slave, whoever loved working could go work. He wasn’t going.

Jiang Jing spoke unhurriedly: “Join the company or go on blind dates. Pick one.”

Wen Yuhuai’s pupils quaked in shock. “Why! My brother isn’t married yet; why rush me—”

Jiang Jing glanced at him: “If you have the ability, you join the company too.”

Wen Yuhuai fell silent.

Jiang Jing sat for a while and left too. Wen Yuhuai wanted to find someone to vent to. Indignantly, he clicked into the small group of five, fingers poking heavily at the keyboard, sending a message.

[My mom is forcing me to go on blind dates. Brothers, emergency help needed!!!]

Two seconds after the message was sent, four question marks refreshed in unison below.
