Chapter 39: Hero Saving the Beauty
Wen Yuhuai really didn’t want to stand with him and talk about these topics. He wanted to slip away, but Fu Xingjian watched him very closely, letting him go nowhere.
“Don’t you have serious business to attend to?” Wen Yuhuai was pestered into a corner and finally couldn’t help but ask.
Before speaking, he glanced roughly around. Song Xingmian was restrained by his brother and sister, his eyes still constantly looking toward his side. Lin Shiyu was chatting and laughing with several business elites, imperceptibly moving closer to him between toasts. Gu Yanxiu was nowhere to be seen; he should be busy too.
Only Fu Xingjian had been by his side from the start until now.
“Yes, already attending to it.”
Wen Yuhuai didn’t react at first, until Fu Xingjian gave him a meaningful look and said unhurriedly: “Pursuing someone, does that not count as serious business?”
Wen Yuhuai: “…”
Just then, he finished his drink. He used the excuse of going to the washroom, and without waiting for the person beside him to react, put down the glass and headed straight for the washroom.
Halfway there, a commotion suddenly erupted from the crowd ahead. Sharp arguing and scolding could be faintly heard amidst the toasts and laughter.
Wen Yuhuai paused in his steps. A moment later, as if thinking of something, his eyes brightened abruptly. He turned around and, sure enough, saw Fu Xingjian following him at a moderate distance.
“Brother Jian.”
He rarely called him with such an eager tone, especially after the confession incident. Fu Xingjian’s heart couldn’t help but be touched. His brows relaxed, revealing a genuine smile. “What’s wrong?”
Wen Yuhuai beckoned him mysteriously. Once he caught up, he immediately led him toward the center of the commotion.
He was the host holding the banquet today, not to mention the great Buddha Fu Xingjian following beside him. The people watching the fun immediately made way for the two of them.
“I’m sorry, I really didn’t do it on purpose. Miss, I will compensate you for your dress…”
“Compensate? This is an haute couture gown; there are only a few in the whole world. Can you afford to compensate?”
“I’m sorry, I really didn’t mean to…”
“What use is sorry? Can a light ‘sorry’ bring my dress back? Where is your hotel manager? I want to ask him how he recruited someone like you…”
As soon as Wen Yuhuai squeezed into the crowd, he heard this classic dialogue. Here it comes, here it comes. The scene of the heroine being troubled by the villainess finally arrived. The heroine finally appeared.
The next scene belonged to the protagonist group. As long as they successfully appeared to relieve the heroine, his heart could be completely put back in his stomach.
Thinking this, he looked around. Sure enough, in just a while, all four male leads gathered. Even Gu Yanxiu, who was missing just now, arrived.
Wen Yuhuai’s gaze swept over the four faces one by one, his eyes full of encouragement. Go on! Your wife is right in front of you. Whoever goes first will easily gain the wife’s favor.
However, his eyes almost cramped, yet the others still didn’t receive the signal. Instead, they all cast concerned gazes on him, indifferent to the troubled heroine on the side.
Wen Yuhuai: “…”
He sighed in frustration, his mood roller-coastering. Seeing the scene getting more awkward and the group showing no intention of intervening, he finally stepped forward, walked around to the heroine, and smoothed things over with a smile.
“Miss Xu, Miss Feng, what happened? Why such a big temper?”
Seeing him, the tone of the two wealthy young ladies instantly became less aggressive. They just pointed at the heroine, who shrank back with her head lowered. “Second Young Master Wen, this waitress doesn’t look where she’s going. My perfectly good gown got splashed with wine by her…”
The heroine couldn’t help raising her head. Her small face turned pale from fright, but she still tried hard to defend herself: “I didn’t mean to. Someone stuck out a leg and tripped me…”
Wen Yuhuai looked over habitually. With just one glance, he held his breath subconsciously. He finally knew why the original host was fascinated by her out of his wits.
The heroine completely grew on his aesthetic points! Looks, temperament, even height perfectly matched his criteria for a mate.
Was this really not a wife tailor-made for him by heaven?
Wen Yuhuai looked at the name tag on the heroine’s chest: Xia Muning. It was undoubtedly the heroine.
Why did it have to be the heroine? Wen Yuhuai sighed with regret while reluctantly moving his gaze away from Xia Muning. If only she weren’t the heroine, he would still have a chance. But now, he could only give up.
With the original host’s lesson in front, give him ten more guts, and he wouldn’t dare snatch a wife from the protagonist group.
He steadied his mind and spoke: “Miss Xu, I see the stained area on your gown isn’t particularly large. If treated in time, it shouldn’t leave a mark. There are spare gowns in the ladies’ lounge upstairs. Why don’t you go up and try to see if there’s one that fits? Change out of this gown and let the staff handle it.”
The villainess duo looked at each other, knowing this was the optimal solution. They hummed reluctantly and turned to go upstairs.
Wen Yuhuai looked at the heroine who hadn’t recovered yet and couldn’t help softening his voice: “Xia Muning, right? There’s nothing for you to do here. Go down and continue working.”
After speaking, he turned back to look at the four men, wanting to give them a look to go comfort the emotionally wounded heroine. Instead, he met four faces cold as frost.
???
Why were they looking at him like that? What did he do?
Fu Xingjian hooked his lips in a smile that wasn’t a smile. The darkness in his eyes was so thick it couldn’t dissolve. He glanced at the heroine standing foolishly on the spot staring blankly at Wen Yuhuai. “Are you deaf? Didn’t hear him tell you to leave?”
Xia Muning’s face turned red instantly, unsure if from shame or annoyance. She hummed vaguely, bent down to pick up the tray on the floor, turned in a panic, and squeezed into the crowd.
Wen Yuhuai couldn’t help looking back again. Even her back view was cute. Like.
The crowd watching the fun had dispersed, leaving only the five of them. Unknowingly, Wen Yuhuai was surrounded by them in the middle.
“Seen enough?” Gu Yanxiu’s voice, indistinguishable from joy or anger, suddenly rang in his ear.
Wen Yuhuai turned back slowly and saw the protagonist group of four surrounding him.
Still wearing four ice-block faces, looking like they were cosplaying refrigerators on the spot.
Wait, why were they so unhappy? Was it because he spoke to the heroine?
Thinking of this possibility, Wen Yuhuai’s eyes lit up again. He scrutinized their faces carefully, not missing any subtle expression.
Only when the four looked confused by his staring did he cough lightly twice and ask them in a tone carrying curiosity and probing.
“What do you guys think of that Xia Muning just now?”
