Chapter 40: We Are Having an Affair, of Course
The faces of the group sank in unison again. Even Song Xingmian, who usually loved to smile the most, had a cold face. “Why does Brother ask this? Who she is has nothing to do with us.”
Wen Yuhuai said subconsciously, “Don’t you guys think she’s quite pretty?”
As soon as this was said, the surrounding atmosphere instantly dropped to freezing point.
“Ah Yu thinks she is very pretty?”
The speaker was Lin Shiyu. The corner of his mouth hooked into a cynical smile, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
Wen Yuhuai quickly realized he had misspoken. Praising their wife as pretty in front of the protagonist group—wasn’t this seeking death?
He wisely changed his tune: “It’s okay, but not my type.”
Saying this should reassure them, right? Neither disparaging the heroine nor implicating himself. He had to say, speaking was truly an art, and fortunately, he had quite some research on it.
Once this sentence fell, their expressions indeed looked a bit better, but only a bit. Gu Yanxiu, who had been silent, took a glass of wine from a nearby table. His tone was gentle and composed as usual, but his words were rarely aggressive.
“If you don’t like her, why did you keep staring at her just now? Ah Yu, this isn’t like you.”
Wen Yuhuai rubbed his temples with a headache.
He really couldn’t figure out the structure of their brain circuits. If they really liked the heroine, why didn’t they chase after her when she left just now? If they didn’t like the heroine, why did they keep bringing up old scores and fussing over such a small matter with him?
“What, is this question hard to answer?”
Seeing him silent, Gu Yanxiu walked two steps closer until he stood in front of him, only a step away.
“You won’t believe me if I say it. Forget it, I won’t talk to you guys. I’m going to the washroom.”
Wen Yuhuai really didn’t know what to say. He simply grabbed a glass of wine too, downed it directly, and then, using the washroom as an excuse again, buried his head and squeezed out of their encirclement.
The group remained in place, quietly watching his fleeing back. Only when that figure disappeared from sight did Lin Shiyu withdraw his gaze and look at the others.
“Ah Yu is distancing himself from us.”
He used a declarative sentence, not a question.
The others unconsciously tightened their grip on their wine glasses, their expressions somewhat unsightly.
Lin Shiyu continued: “The last time we met was when I had a fever. It was from that day that he started not replying to my messages.”
Song Xingmian added: “Me too. Since we met that day, Brother hasn’t replied to my messages either.”
After a moment of silence, Gu Yanxiu nodded too, being more precise. “It started from that night.”
During the day, he would still reply to messages, but after that night, he didn’t reply to a single one.
And that afternoon, Wen Yuhuai went shopping with Fu Xingjian. The problem could only lie with him.
“What exactly did you do to make Ah Yu distance himself from us like this?”
Fu Xingjian just smiled casually. “Why are you all looking at me? Can’t you see? He ignores me now too, even avoiding me like the plague.”
“As for what exactly happened that afternoon, you can go ask him yourselves. I promised him to keep it a secret and not let anyone other than us know.”
After speaking, he lifted his steps and walked leisurely toward the washroom, leaving the others standing in place with ugly expressions.
“Xia Muning, what are you daydreaming about? Why aren’t you coming to work?”
“Oh, oh… coming…”
Xia Muning snapped back to reality and immediately went to help. Her pale small face still carried a blush, and the corners of her mouth hooked up unconsciously.
Her companion looked at her suspiciously. “You haven’t been held accountable for splashing wine on that young lady just now; what are you smiling foolishly about?”
Xia Muning immediately restrained the smile on her face and arranged the new batch of wine quietly. However, that white figure who helped her out just now kept appearing in her mind from time to time.
The Second Young Master of the Wen family—he was completely different from the others.
No arrogant attitude, no snobbery, none of the common failings of those rich kids… he even helped her out with a smile.
He really was a very good person.
Wen Yuhuai was extra cautious coming to the washroom this time. Even if his family booked the venue, it wasn’t enough; perverts were impossible to guard against. He simply had the two bodyguards guard the door directly.
Fortunately, it went smoothly this time. No power outage occurred midway, and he came out of the washroom successfully.
After coming out, however, he didn’t want to go back, afraid of running into those four difficult guys again. He simply turned and went to the terrace in the opposite direction. He remembered there was a swing there, perfect for finding some peace and quiet.
But as soon as he arrived, he regretted it a bit. The terrace was outdoors, lit only by a pumpkin-shaped lamp. The light was very dim, almost non-existent in the eyes of a night blindness sufferer like him.
But it was indeed much quieter here than inside. Plus, with the two bodyguards escorting him not far away, Wen Yuhuai decided to sit here for a while before leaving.
Only, he didn’t know if it was an illusion, but he felt a dark shadow flash past him. Wen Yuhuai unconsciously looked a few more times. Before he could see clearly, a pair of arms suddenly hugged his waist from behind.
Wen Yuhuai’s scalp tingled instantly. Thinking that pervert had groped his way here in the dark again, he was about to open his mouth to shout for bodyguards when his mouth was covered by quick hands. At the same time, a familiar voice rang in his ear.
“Shh, Ah Yu, don’t be afraid. It’s me.”
“……”
False alarm. Wen Yuhuai was extremely speechless. Blood rushed to his head instantly, and he ruthlessly drove an elbow back. The other party let out an uncontrollable muffled groan.
“Young Master?”
The two bodyguards were on the other side of the terrace, separated by a bit of distance. They didn’t spot the person immediately but still heard the commotion quickly.
“Ah Yu, make them leave.”
Wen Yuhuai rolled his eyes silently and spoke toward the bodyguards. “It’s okay. It’s Brother Jian.”
The two bodyguards stopped asking.
Fu Xingjian’s arm tightened around his waist, his head resting on his shoulder. Hot breath mixed with a faint smell of alcohol sprayed into the crook of his neck. He repeated, “Make them leave.”
Wen Yuhuai found it baffling. “Why make them leave?”
This person already had designs on him. He didn’t dare stay alone with him. If not for the fear of running into the other three inside, he would have left here long ago.
Fu Xingjian didn’t speak again. But Wen Yuhuai suddenly felt his neck becoming wet and hot, as if something was roaming on his skin. Alarm bells rang in his brain immediately. He pushed him hard while questioning: “What are you doing?!”
At some point, Fu Xingjian had squeezed onto the swing. He forcefully locked the person in his arms and laughed lightly twice. “Didn’t Ah Yu say he wanted an underground romance with me? We are having an affair, of course.”
