Chapter 74: Sleeping in His Bed
Wen Yuhuai did not refuse. He asked, “What time are we leaving tomorrow?”
Lin Shiyu replied, “I have some matters to handle back there, so weāll leave in the morning. Iāll pick you up at nine. Once we arrive, Iāll give you an unlimited black card. You can go out and have fun, or just stay at home. Of course, if you want to accompany me to the office while I work, I wonāt object to that either.”
Wen Yuhuai let out a soft scoff. “Keep dreaming. Itās a deal then. Tomorrow at nine. I’m hanging upā”
“Don’t hang up yet.”
On the other end, Lin Shiyu raised an eyebrow slightly, his tone half-teasing and half-earnest. “Itās been so long since we last saw each other. You have no idea how much Iāve missed you. Chat with me for a bit.”
Wen Yuhuai couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “Didn’t we chat enough during the day?”
Lin Shiyu said without blinking, “It wasn’t enough.”
“If itās not enough, then so be it. I donāt have the leisure to chat with you. Goodbye.”
Having said that, Wen Yuhuai hung up decisively, ignoring whatever else Lin Shiyu might have wanted to say.
However, just as he turned off the lights and prepared to sleep, there was another knock on the door.
Wen Yuhuai was puzzled. Who would be looking for him at this hour?
Fearing it might be an emergency, he got up to open the door. Standing outside was He Yu.
“Is there something you need this late at night?”
He Yuās hands, hanging at his sides, clenched tightly. The contemptuous words that man had spoken not long ago were still swirling in his mind.
A confession… should he confess?
Knowing full well that Wen Yuhuai wouldn’t accept him, was there even a point in confessing?
Seeing the young man standing at the door looking soul-crushed and silent, Wen Yuhuaiās brow furrowed instinctively. He asked with concern, “Did something happen?”
He Yuās lips pressed into a thin line. After a long moment, he looked up, feigning nonchalance. “Itās nothing. I just lost a small item, but itās quite important. I need to use it tonight, so I wanted to see if I dropped it in Wen-geās room when I was delivering the soup.”
Wen Yuhuai immediately stepped aside to make room. “Then come in and have a look.”
He Yu followed him into the room, squatting down to search with practiced ease.
Wen Yuhuai joined in the search, asking, “What did you lose? Itāll be faster if I help.”
He Yu gave him a grateful smile. “Itās a Bluetooth earbud. I don’t sleep very well at night, so I’m used to listening to some sleep-inducing music. Otherwise, itās hard to fall asleep.”
Wen Yuhuai had suffered from insomnia before and knew it was a miserable experience. He put his heart into the search. “What color is it?”
“White.”
Wen Yuhuai continued to search, even leaning down to check under the coffee table. It was clean; there was nothing there.
He shifted to another direction, not noticing that his movements caused his bathrobe to loosen. The collar slipped open a few inches, revealing his deep collarbones and a large expanse of his pale, fair chest.
Standing not far from him, He Yuās gaze darkened instantly. His eyes remained fixed on the patch of white peeking out from the dark bathrobe. After staring for two seconds, he decisively looked away.
He couldn’t look any longer. If he did, he might not be able to stop himself from pouring out his love.
He didn’t want Wen Yuhuai to distance himself after a rejection. It was better to restrain himself from the start; that way, he at least had a chance to stay by his side.
After searching for a while, Wen Yuhuai saw no sign of the earbud. He stood up, feeling a bit defeated. “I have a pair here. If you don’t mind, why don’t you use mine for now?”
He Yu, still squatting on the ground, kicked the Bluetooth earbud he had just dropped by his side under the cabinet. “Really? Then thank you, Wen-ge.”
Wen Yuhuai returned to the bedroom and brought his earbuds out. “Go ahead and use them. I donāt use them much anyway.”
He Yu took the oval-shaped charging case and gripped it firmly in his palm, offering a sincere smile tinged with a bit of guilt.
“Iāve really troubled Wen-ge tonight, making you search with me for so long and then even borrowing your earbuds.”
Wen Yuhuai pointed to the chicken soup on the coffee table. “Itās nothing. Didnāt you bring me chicken soup too?”
The smile on He Yuās lips deepened. “Was the soup good?”
Wen Yuhuai nodded. “Very good.”
“Then drink more, Wen-ge. Itās late, Iāll head back to sleep now.”
Wen Yuhuai: “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
The next morning.
Just as it hit eight o’clock, Wen Yuhuai was woken up by a phone call. It was from Lin Shiyu.
“Awake? Get up and pack your things. Iāll be there to pick you up in a bit.”
Wen Yuhuai was incredibly drowsy. His brain hadn’t processed the words yet, and he didn’t hear clearly what the other man said.
Lin Shiyu quickly changed his tune. “Forget it. That pile of junk you have isn’t worth packing. Iāll buy you new things once we get to Haishi.”
Wen Yuhuai, finally snapping awake: “…”
It was indeed getting late. He threw off the covers, got out of bed, went to the bathroom to freshen up, and then started packing.
Only then did he realize there really wasn’t much to pack. In the end, he only brought some undergarments.
By the time Lin Shiyu knocked on the door, Wen Yuhuai had just finished. Lin Shiyu took the bag from his hand and they walked out side by side.
Before they could even exit the main lobby, they ran into He Yu. Seeing the two of them looking ready to leave, He Yu bit his lip and asked directly, “Where is Wen-ge going?”
Wen Yuhuai: “Perfect timing. I was just about to find your mother and let her know. Since youāre here, I can just tell you.”
He paused, glancing at Lin Shiyu, who stood with one hand in his pocket and hadn’t said a word. “I’m going to Haishi for New Year’s Eve. Iāll probably be there for a few days. Remember to tell your mother so she doesn’t have to prepare my meals.”
The disappointment on He Yuās face was visible to the naked eye, yet he still forced a smile. “What a pity. I was planning to spend New Year’s Eve with Wen-ge. But this is good too. Haishi has many fun places. I wish Wen-ge a safe trip.”
Wen Yuhuai waved at him casually. “See you next year.”
It was only going to be a few days, but the way he said it made it sound like they would be apart for a long time.
He Yuās lips pressed tighter, but he still waved goodbye. “See you next year.”
After arriving in Haishi, Wen Yuhuai was sent to the apartment where Lin Shiyu was currently staying. Lin Shiyu went to the office to handle some business, leaving behind several car keys and telling him he could drive whichever one he liked if he wanted to go out.
An unlimited black card was also placed in a prominent position on the table, as if Lin Shiyu had handed over his entire net worth.
Wen Yuhuai hadn’t slept well, so naturally, he had no desire to go out. He simply took a tour of the apartment.
There were quite a few rooms, but only two had bedding on the beds: the master bedroom and a guest room.
The blankets on both beds were neatly arranged, making it impossible to tell at a glance which room was occupied. Wen Yuhuai didn’t think much of it and instinctively assumed Lin Shiyu slept in the master bedroom. Yawning, he entered the guest room.
In his office, Lin Shiyu, who had just opened the surveillance feed, saw this scene. A faint ripple of emotion stirred in the depths of his eyes, and his lips curled into a delighted arc.
He had forgotten to mention that he usually slept in the guest room. Soā
Wen Yuhuai had entered his room and was sleeping in his bed.
