The Straight Man Is A Heartthrob Again Chapter 19

Chapter 19: Cave

Chu Yang: [Scared me to death. I really want to beat him up.]

System: [Luckily he didn’t counterattack, otherwise we’d have to worry about the noise.]

“…..”

Pei Xilin’s fingertips curled. If Chu Yang looked closely, he would find a knife pressed under his elbow.

The surroundings were silent, so Pei Xilin had naturally noticed someone approaching immediately. Two groups had already passed by half an hour ago—one was there for his life, the other was his own hired help.

But he was injured now. It had been over two hours since he fell. These people he hired were just doing it for the money.

Pei Xilin didn’t trust anyone. For money, they could easily be bought off midway. So, even if he judged them to be his own hired help, he didn’t plan on going out. He had smeared his wounds with wet mud to stop the bleeding.

As time passed, the dried mud had flaked off quite a bit. He needed to be seen at a hospital to have the wounds cleaned as soon as possible.

He was afraid of falling asleep. When drowsiness hit, he would tear at his wounds. Afraid the scent of blood would be detected, he woke himself up with the intense pain and quickly smeared more mud on. It would be a miracle if he didn’t work himself to death.

Before Chu Yang approached, Pei Xilin had already prepared his dagger for a counterattack, but he was caught off guard by that heart voice again—

His knuckles stiffened, and his heart relaxed quite a bit. His emotions split into three parts: one was a secret joy; another was self-loathing for letting Chu Yang see his pathetic state again; and besides those, he was also clearly aware that Chu Yang shouldn’t be here.

The first time could be explained as a coincidence. The second time, in the middle of nowhere—someone like Chu Yang shouldn’t be in a place like this in the dead of night.

And… Chu Yang’s heart voice was clearly in conversation with someone. Although he couldn’t hear the other voice, it was clear Chu Yang had come for him. The first heart voice he heard was: [What if I accidentally hit him and make it worse?]

Chu Yang knew he was injured and was worried he would fight back like last time. He couldn’t hear the other voice, but it must have responded with something, because Chu Yang said: [Then I’m relieved.]

Heart voice, savior… Pei Xilin accepted it in less than three seconds. He wanted to be linked to Chu Yang. Even if Chu Yang hadn’t saved him, he would surely have been drawn to him upon meeting.

Was he sent by heaven to save him? Did heaven also know that only this person could save him?

Pei Xilin had never thought he would fall in love at first sight. He didn’t even have time to experience that emotion properly. He was too busy, and his life was too dry. Only this one person could make him think over and over again.

He really wanted to have other interactions with Chu Yang, to ask him out like other pursuers and chat heart-to-heart. But before his problems were solved, any contact would only bring trouble to the other person.

However, he wasn’t sure if Chu Yang was being forced to do this mission. He could feel that Chu Yang wasn’t very happy.

Chu Yang was naturally unhappy; it was time for sleep, yet he was out here working. He took the backpack off his shoulder.

The entrance of this cave was small, but the inside was spacious. Pei Xilin was leaning against the side. Even if someone stood outside with a flashlight, they wouldn’t discover him immediately.

Chu Yang also walked to the side. His mini-flashlight was very useful. He swept it around to check on Pei Xilin’s situation.

Pei Xilin’s eyelashes trembled, and he instinctively clenched his fist. He turned his head away, his entire face deathly pale. His hair, matted with sweat and blood, clung to his face; he looked very pathetic.

His clothes had been torn in many places during the fall, and the mud and blood were mixed together. It was very dirty.

He didn’t dare and didn’t want to look Chu Yang in the eye. He didn’t want to see his own wretched reflection in those beautiful eyes.

He was no different from a stray dog right now.

Chu Yang’s mind was entirely on the injuries, so he didn’t pay attention to the other’s expression. He had brought disinfectant, but only two bottles of water. Pei Xilin had many wounds, most of them smeared with mud; it wasn’t enough to clean them.

If he tried to take Pei Xilin out now and ran into those people, they definitely wouldn’t be able to escape.

Chu Yang took out the medical kit and water. He unscrewed a bottle of mineral water and handed it to Pei Xilin.

Pei Xilin’s back was straight as a ramrod. He loosened his fist and took the water. “Thank you.”

Chu Yang remained silent, watching him drink.

No matter how much Pei Xilin wanted to remain a gentleman, he couldn’t maintain his appearance while drinking right now. He hadn’t had water or food for a long while, and the blood loss and physical exertion were too great.

His large Adam’s apple bobbed continuously. In just a few seconds, the entire bottle was gone. His breathing also became uncontrollable, each exhale heavier than a donkey’s.

Chu Yang gave him a light look. Pei Xilin immediately stopped making noise, his ears turning hot. “I…”

He wanted to say that he didn’t usually drink water like that.

Chu Yang’s look was just a reminder not to make too much noise; it had nothing to do with thinking the other’s manners were poor.

Moreover, he had just discovered that Pei Xilin’s left hand hadn’t moved while he drank. It looked… broken.

Chu Yang took a few more looks, then frowned and asked, “What’s wrong with your left hand?”

Hearing that, Pei Xilin tried to move his left hand, but the only thing that came was intense pain. His face grew even paler. “It might be broken.”

Chu Yang’s frown deepened. He moved closer. Pei Xilin’s breath hitched. It was as if the air only contained the pleasant scent of Chu Yang. He sniffed lightly, only to smell the unpleasant odor of mud on himself…

How did Chu Yang endure him? And what did he think of him…

The next second, seeing Chu Yang reach out to touch his arm, Pei Xilin nearly jumped out of his skin.

Aside from the weak flashlight beam, the whitest thing in the cave was Chu Yang. Those fair hands were placed on Pei Xilin—one pressing on his right shoulder, the other pinching his left arm.

Pei Xilin had broad shoulders, and because of his posture, Chu Yang had to straighten his back and move very close. From behind, it almost looked like an embrace.

In fact, this posture also completely suppressed Pei Xilin. He watched and felt those fair, slender hands pinching his left arm bit by bit.

Unfortunately, the pain predominated. He wished his left arm were actually fine so those hands could stay longer and the sensation would be clearer…

“Do you feel anything?” Chu Yang gave him a look and asked in a low voice.

Pei Xilin’s eyelids jumped. “…It hurts a bit.”

“Only a bit? You’re quite good at enduring pain then.” Chu Yang released the hand pressing on Pei Xilin’s shoulder and slid the other down to the wrist.

Then, Pei Xilin’s left hand was gently lifted by both of Chu Yang’s hands. Those jade-like hands gently fiddled with his knuckles as if confirming they could move.

If Chu Yang were to check Pei Xilin’s pulse right now, he would find the other’s heartbeat was abnormally fast. But he was very serious, focusing only on that semi-clenched hand.

Pei Xilin was going crazy. His whole body was unnaturally hot. He felt as if his heartbeat was echoing through the cave! Yet Chu Yang still held his hand.

With great effort, Pei Xilin made his left hand twitch violently. But with this exertion, he nearly fell over sideways.

“Don’t just move around.” Chu Yang quickly pulled him back. This caused Pei Xilin another surge of intense pain, and his vision went black for a moment before he recovered.

After those two major movements, Pei Xilin had zero strength left for a counterattack, leaving only his eyes to stare fixedly at Chu Yang.

Chu Yang didn’t know what he was looking at. He took scissors from the medical kit and cut off Pei Xilin’s sleeve. The arm revealed was already unbearable to look at—the muscles looked as if they had been twisted, the swelling was terrifying, and it was even dislocated.

Chu Yang’s brow furrowed. He didn’t dare touch it. He hadn’t realized it was so serious earlier when it was covered by clothes and the light was poor. “We have to go to the hospital immediately.”

Otherwise, he might lose the use of this arm.

“…Not… the hospital…” Pei Xilin said with difficulty.

Chu Yang ignored him. He unscrewed the other bottle of water, took a sip, took out some medicine, and stuffed it into Pei Xilin’s mouth. Then he gripped his jaw. “Open your mouth.”

Pei Xilin submissively tilted his head and opened his mouth. Although Chu Yang’s grip on his jaw was tight, the pouring motion was very gentle. A normal person would never choke.

But at the thought that this water was something Chu Yang had drunk from, even Pei Xilin’s throat went tight, and he miserably choked.

“Cough, cough, cough—”

Chu Yang quickly let go. “Sorry. Drink it yourself.”

Pei Xilin shook his head, his face flushed. “Thank you. Still… please feed me… I can’t move for now.”

This was half-true and half-false, but Chu Yang didn’t overthink it. Pei Xilin was half-crippled now; if he made a mess while drinking, it would affect their departure.

So, his movements became even gentler as he fed him.

After feeding him, Chu Yang re-checked Pei Xilin’s other wounds. He bandaged the ones that might tear further before standing up. The backpack returned to his shoulders.

Chu Yang: [System, map out the route.]

System: [Okay.]

Pei Xilin didn’t hear this, as it contained the word “System.”

Chu Yang bent over to help Pei Xilin up. Seeing Chu Yang’s black windbreaker get dirty from his own touch, Pei Xilin’s body stiffened. But struggling would only make it harder for Chu Yang. He kept his body stiff and repeated, “I can’t go to the hospital.”

Those people knew he was injured and would surely set an ambush at the nearby hospitals.

“If you don’t go to the hospital, are you planning to go to our school infirmary?”

Pei Xilin didn’t know if this was a sincere question or sarcasm from Chu Yang, but he cooperatively asked, “Can I?”

“….What do you think?”

Standing up and speaking in low voices, the two were very close. Up close, Chu Yang’s features were actually quite aggressive, so Pei Xilin interpreted it as him being angry. “I’ll listen to you.”

“Then we go to the hospital,” Chu Yang said immediately.

Pei Xilin pursed his lips and explained why he really couldn’t go. He thought Chu Yang would put him down, but less than three seconds later…

Chu Yang said, “Then we’re going to my house.”

But just as they crouched to leave the cave, Chu Yang’s breath hitched again. A person was standing right outside the cave, their face indistinct, looking down at them from above.

Chu Yang had no time to blame the system for not warning him. He reached back to pull out the baseball bat. Just as he gripped it, the person in front of him spoke— “This is the friend you mentioned?”

It was Chu Yuanzhou!

Chu Yang instantly breathed a sigh of relief, cold sweat breaking out on his back. “Ge, you scared me to death.”

Chu Yuanzhou let out a cold laugh. “And did you give me a surprise then?”

His gaze swept over Pei Xilin critically. At a single glance, he felt the guy was completely unsuited for Chu Yang. Seeing the filthy Pei Xilin leaning half against his brother made him even unhappier.
