Chapter 62: When It’s Time for a Child / “Missing You Even for a Minute.”
Hidden by Du Xun.
It was a fully loaded handgun.
â
Military personnel are allowed to carry handguns after reporting them.
However, they are uniformly issued by the command, with each gun and bullet numbered, and the models are standardized.
Shen Zhuo was very familiar with this type of gun.
When he was younger, Shen Xuyin had given him one to play with, and he had accidentally fired a shot.
As a result, Shen Xuyin had to write a 10,000-word reflection essay.
So, the moment Shen Zhuo felt the gun under the pillow, he immediately realized something.
This was not a standard-issue military weapon.
That meant it was Du Xun’s personal gun.
Shen Zhuo slowly withdrew his hand, suddenly noticing a faint scent of pheromones on his fingertipsâ
The pheromones of a lotus.
It was his.
For a moment, Shen Zhuo’s mind raced with thoughts.
He lifted his head, staring at the long eyelashes of the sleeping alpha.
Even in sleep, Du Xun was restless, his eyelashes trembling.
“You still have secrets from me, huh…”
The young man softly murmured, biting the man’s chin in a playful act of revenge.
“Bad alpha.”
Hearing Du Xun subconsciously inhale, Shen Zhuo let out a small hum of satisfaction.
He released more calming pheromones, found a comfortable position, and closed his eyes.
ââ
Shen Zhuo had thought that his heat would come before he entered the military academy.
Last month, his heat cycle had arrived early, so it should have been coming again soon.
But a month passed, and his heat still hadn’t come.
Du Xun had been keeping a close watch on him.
Once it was clear that Shen Zhuo had missed his heat, Du Xun immediately dragged him to the hospital.
They did a full-body examination, inside and out.
When the results came back, Du Xun sat beside Shen Zhuo, holding his hand, his palm slightly sweaty.
Shen Zhuo, however, remained calm. He glanced at the man, who was staring intently at the door, and leaned in to whisper:
“You’re so nervous.”
Du Xun lowered his head and, imitating Shen Zhuo, quietly replied:
“No, I’m not.”
Shen Zhuo squeezed his hand and smiled. “You’re sweating.”
Du Xun looked down and pressed his lips together.
“Isn’t it normal for your heat to be delayed?”
Shen Zhuo didn’t actually know but nodded anyway.
“It should be normal.”
Du Xun rarely used his status to get special treatment.
But this was the first time he had flashed his command insignia to get Shen Zhuo into the hospital’s fast-track service.
Although Shen Zhuo thought his alpha was overreacting.
When Shen Zhuo’s name was called, Du Xun, who was usually so cold and composed in the military, immediately lost his cool.
He stood up so abruptly he startled a little kid sitting nearby, fiddling with the holes in his chair.
Shen Zhuo could feel his hand being squeezed nearly to the point of breaking.
Du Xun stayed silent as he pulled Shen Zhuo into the examination room.
The one holding Shen Zhuo’s exam report was a young doctor, probably in his early twenties.
He glanced at Shen Zhuo, and then at the alpha behind him, whose face was dark with worry. The doctor raised his hand slightly.
“Please, both of you, take a seat.”
After looking at the report, the doctor showed a hint of surprise.
“An S5 omega? There’s no record of that in any database.” The doctorâs expression grew serious. “So, we can only diagnose based on a regular omega.”
“If there are any special symptoms of an S5 omega, the hospital wonât be able to detect them.”
The doctor looked at them. “You should have come sooner.”
“Is there a problem?” Du Xun’s body leaned slightly forward.
His tone was sharp, his gray-blue eyes dark, as if he were interrogating someone.
Shen Zhuo subtly tugged at the man’s sleeve.
The doctor let out a soft “oh” and glanced at the clock.
“If you’d come an hour later, my shift wouldâve been over.”
Du Xun: …
Shen Zhuo: âŚâŚâŚâŚ
The doctor adjusted his glasses and continued:
“As of now, your wife is perfectly healthy. All the indicators are normal. As for the delayed heat… you two just got married, right?”
Du Xun frowned. “Yes.”
The doctor nodded in understanding.
“The higher an omega’s rank, the more unstable their glandular energy is during bonding. Especially since you’re both S5. It’s normal for your wife’s glandular energy to be chaotic after your first bond.”
The more Du Xun listened, the deeper his frown became.
Shen Zhuo asked, “SoâŚ?”
“It’ll smooth out after a few more times. No need to worry.”
The doctor set down his glasses and smiled at the two of them.
“Itâs best not to use protection. That way, your pheromones will merge more efficiently, helping stabilize your wife’s glandular energy.”
“Of course, that is⌠if you’re planning to have children.”
At this point, the tips of Shen Zhuoâs ears, hidden under his black hair, had turned bright red.
Only his years of good upbringing kept him from showing any visible reaction.
Just then, Du Xun asked:
“What if we don’t want children?”
The doctor paused, his eyes reflecting a slight change as he looked at the alpha.
He had seen many newlyweds eager to have children as soon as possible, hoping for two kids in three years.
But he had rarely seen someone like this couple.
Despite the omega’s high rank, the alpha wasnât in a rush to have a child.
Such alphas were rare.
“Omega contraceptives can cause harm if taken long-term,” the doctor sighed and seriously suggested.
“But the new alpha contraceptives are hard for many people to accept.”
“If you can accept taking them yourself, itâll be much better for your wife. Alpha contraceptives have almost no negative effects on the alpha’s body.”
Shen Zhuo tilted his head up, his gaze sparkling beneath his long, curled lashes.
Yes, his alpha could accept that.
A strange happiness welled up in Shen Zhuo.
Du Xun finally relaxed a little, his tense body easing up.
“Alright, I understand.”
The doctor added, “Make sure to maintain good nutrition, get enough rest, and in time, everything will be fine.”
Du Xun carefully noted all this down. “Understood.”
As they were about to leave the examination room, the doctor suddenly called out to Du Xun:
“Wait a moment, alpha. The omega can wait outside. I need to speak with you about some precautions.”
Shen Zhuo didnât think much of it and patted Du Xunâs hand. “Iâll wait for you outside.”
Once the door closed, the doctorâs expression changed.
He handed Du Xun a copy of Shen Zhuoâs report.
“I wonât beat around the bush.”
“Your wifeâs glandular rank is exceptionally high. If he ever falls seriously ill or suffers a severe injury, current medical technology might not be able to meet the needs of such a high-ranked gland.”
“Youâll need to prepare for that.”
Du Xun was silent for a moment, his downcast eyes betraying no emotion. “I understand.”
“And one more thing.”
Du Xunâs expression shifted slightly. He knew what would come next would be the most important.
He listened intently.
“If you two plan to have children, itâs best for your wife to avoid doing anything from the moment of conception.”
“With both of you being such high ranks, the childâs rank could be even higher.”
“An omegaâs glandular energy is naturally prone to fluctuation, and if the childâs rank is too high, it could disrupt the omegaâs glandular energy.”
“To put it simply, if your wife gets pregnant, itâs likely to be far more painful than it would be for the average omega.”
Du Xunâs fingers clenched tightly for a moment before he forced himself to relax.
ââThen we wonât have kids.
That was Du Xunâs first thought upon hearing this.
He didnât want Shen Zhuo to suffer.
So, not having children was fine. Not having kids at all was fine.
Those things didnât matter.
All that mattered was that his treasure could live a happy, carefree life.
Seeing Du Xunâs thoughtful expression, the doctor continued:
“One last thing. It concerns you.”
Du Xun looked up.
“Your partnerâs high rank will also affect your susceptibility periods. What was once a susceptibility period every three months might now happen every month, or it might extend even longer.”
“But this will normalize over time.”
“However, if you plan on using alpha contraceptives, your high rank will reduce the effectiveness of the pills by about 95% during your susceptibility period.”
“So, if you take contraceptives during your susceptibility period, whether you or your wife takes them, theyâll be nearly useless.”
The doctor gathered up the reports, signaling the conversation was over.
“Just be cautious during your susceptibility period.”
“Thatâs all.”
Du Xun cast a glance at his arm, which hadnât fully healed yet.
He didnât care much about his own well-being.
The susceptibility period? He could just stay away from Shen Zhuo.
He could endure it. It wasnât a big deal.
Du Xun stood up and nodded. “Thank you.”
Shen Zhuo was sitting in the same spot near a child who was still waiting to be called.
It seemed to be an alpha baby, about a year old.
The baby was chubby and fair-skinned, with a round head.
The omega father was gently supporting the child, while the alpha father was returning from a distance with two bottles of water.
Shen Zhuo was staring intently at the baby.
Just as the omega father turned to take the water, the babyâs foot slipped, and his socked foot missed its step.
Before the baby could fall, Shen Zhuo quickly caught him in his arms.
The soft, warm sensation in his arms made Shen Zhuo pause.
So soft. So warm.
Like a ball of cotton candy.
The baby immediately started crying.
The omega father panicked and quickly took the baby back, bowing to Shen Zhuo repeatedly in thanks.
“Itâs nothing.”
Shen Zhuoâs expression was calm, but there was a hint of a smile on his lips.
“What happened?”
Du Xunâs deep voice interrupted.
Shen Zhuo didnât turn around, but he instinctively reached up and grabbed Du Xunâs warm hand.
The baby, comforted by his omega fatherâs pheromones and embrace, soon giggled at Shen Zhuo.
“So cute.”
Shen Zhuo gently squeezed the chubby little alphaâs hand.
“Goodbye, little one.”
The summer breeze was still somewhat scorching.
The shadows of the trees swayed under the sunlight, casting dappled light.
The sound of cicadas chirped intermittently.
The smell of disinfectant lingered in the air.
But Shen Zhuo felt particularly happy.
It wasnât until they got into the car that Shen Zhuo sighed:
“That baby was so cute.”
Du Xun, who had been closely watching Shen Zhuoâs emotions, paused.
His thumb gently stroked Shen Zhuoâs soft palm.
“What is it?” Shen Zhuo asked, puzzled.
The man reached out and gently caressed Shen Zhuoâs cheek, leaning down to kiss his forehead.
Du Xun: “Nothing. I just missed you.”
Shen Zhuo looked at him strangely. “But we havenât been apart.”
“You werenât by my side just now.” The manâs eyes lowered slightly, holding Shen Zhuoâs hand and pressing it to his lips for another kiss.
“I miss you even if it’s just a minute apart.”
Shen Zhuo smiled, his lips curving upward.
“Then if you put it that way, I missed you too.”
Du Xun fastened Shen Zhuoâs seatbelt for him.
“Letâs go home.”
On the way back, Shen Zhuoâs phone received a message from Ares Military Academyâ
