Chapter 73: Du Xun’s Susceptibility Period
As Shen Zhuo stepped out of the interrogation room, Feng Muya’s expression was unsightly.
Shen Zhuo had no intention of waiting for her to make snide remarks, but several alphas immediately surrounded him.
“Shen Zhuo, your ability is amazing. Can you demonstrate it again?”
“I feel like my ability is no different from brute force. Mind reading is way better.”
“We heard there was a chance to observe an interrogation, so we came over. I didn’t expect you’d be the one doing it.”
“We don’t have your contact info yet. Can you give it to us?”
“Your grades are so good. Can we ask you questions if we have any?”
“Ai Li is your friend, right? Could I get his number?”
Shen Zhuo first glanced sideways at Ji Weishen behind him.
The adjutant clearly wanted to say something but just took a step forward and forcefully held back.
Shen Zhuo then looked at the person who asked about Ai Li and answered on Ji Weishen’s behalf: “He has an alpha.”
“And so do I.”
The alphas in front of him were dumbfounded.
The boy seemed to recall his alpha’s face, curling his lips slightly.
“My alpha gets jealous easily, so I won’t add anyone else.”
The instructor and Ji Weishen simultaneously looked up at the ceiling.
My alpha… gets jealous easily…
This dog food is too sweet!
Don’t want to listen anymore!
“What are you all surrounding him for!” A sharp female voice rang out.
Behind them, Feng Muya finally couldn’t help shouting, “He just interrogated a suspect! Are you all turning into bootlickers now?!”
Shen Zhuo clearly saw impatience flash across the faces of several alphas.
One of them, unafraid of trouble, immediately crossed his arms and turned to retort: “Otherwise what, lick you?”
Someone behind him scoffed softly: “Lick your mom.”
The double meaning was sarcastic, causing everyone to stifle a laugh.
Feng Muya’s face flushed red with anger, her hands trembling in fists.
She wanted to use her pheromones to suppress them as usual.
But then she remembered their ranks.
It was almost useless.
The girl’s expression was extremely ugly. This naked humiliation made the princess, who had been pampered since birth, feel like she had thorns in her back once again.
Shen Zhuo couldn’t be bothered to spare her a glance, looking directly at Ji Weishen:
“Can I go to the scene with you?”
Ji Weishen subconsciously looked to the front left.
But the person who usually stood there was gone.
Shen Zhuo understood just by observing his expression: “I’ll go ask him.”
Just as Shen Zhuo was about to leave, Feng Muya blocked his path, cornering him.
The people around looked at each other, unsure of what was happening.
The girl didn’t speak, just stared at him.
Simply blocking his way.
There was a perverseness in her eyes distinct from her usual temperament.
It was like… someone was instructing her to do something, and she couldn’t think of any other way, so she resorted to this incongruous behavior to achieve her goal.
Shen Zhuo immediately sensed something was wrong.
But Feng Muya seemed to be carrying something that blocked abilities, preventing him from using [Heart Listening] time and again.
This feeling was very strange.
It was like stepping into a sticky spiderweb full of venom.
Countless eyes surrounded him, gleaming with mocking smiles.
Shen Zhuo scrutinized Feng Muya from top to bottom.
She was stalling for time.
Why? For whom?
Ji Weishen immediately came over to help:
“It’s over here. Princess, please take the students back to Ares.”
Feng Muya turned and glared at Ji Weishen:
“You are not qualified to speak to me yet.”
As soon as Feng Muya finished speaking, her hand was swatted away.
Shen Zhuo walked faster and faster until he broke into a run.
The person not at the scene, the person he cared about.
There was only one.
Du Xun.
Shen Zhuo completely ignored the provocative pheromones Feng Muya released, sprinting towards Du Xun’s office.
The unease in his heart grew.
Du Xun…
Du Xun!
Don’t let anything happen…
Please don’t let anything happen!!
As he ran, Shen Zhuo’s heart rate accelerated. Rounding a corner, inertia prevented him from dodging in time, and he slammed directly into a support pillar.
Ji Weishen followed behind, pale with shock.
“Sister-in-law, are you okay?!”
While Shen Zhuo paused briefly, clutching his chest where he’d hit it, Ji Weishen shouted from behind.
“Du Xun…” Shen Zhuo murmured, rubbing his aching chest casually.
Both elevators were stopped on the top floor, the 23rd.
Du Xun’s office was on the 16th floor.
Shen Zhuo was currently on the 5th floor.
Shen Zhuo waited for ten seconds. Seeing no sign of the elevator coming down, he immediately turned and ran towards the stairwell.
Ji Weishen turned to see Shen Zhuo’s retreating back, never looking back.
He hurried to catch up.
Before even reaching the 16th floor, Shen Zhuo felt a wave of oppressive pheromones like an avalanche.
Releasing indiscriminately and terrifyingly.
This is?!
Something was thrown from the end of the corridor, hitting the corner of the stairwell with a loud thud.
Shen Zhuo looked down, his pupils constricting.
It was an omega, knocked unconscious by the impact.
A muffled groan came from behind.
Ji Weishen clutched the back of his neck, gripping the handrail in pain as he slowly knelt down.
“Si… Sister-in-law…”
Ji Weishen raised his head with difficulty, squeezing out every word through gritted teeth:
“Lizi and my brother… they’ll be here soon…”
Shen Zhuo retreated to Ji Weishen’s side and used his pheromones to shield him for a moment, allowing Ji Weishen to stand up:
“Go quickly, evacuate the floors above and below. Don’t let Ai Li and Brother Baixian come over!”
Saying this, he helped the omega who had been thrown to the door up and handed him to Ji Weishen, glancing at the many people lying paralyzed in the corridor.
This was also Shen Zhuo’s first time feeling the attacking pheromones of an S5.
The full-force release made blood seep from the corner of his mouth after dragging just one person.
There couldn’t be more casualties!
Shen Zhuo immediately changed his mind and looked towards Du Xun’s office at the end of the corridor.
The door was tightly shut, but there was a dent in it.
Military doors were reinforced with special metals. To smash a dent in it—unless Du Xun had lost control.
Susceptibility Period.
These three words popped into Shen Zhuo’s mind again.
Calculating the time, Du Xun was due for a susceptibility period no matter what.
The rosemary in the air had reached a certain level. With every step closer to the office, the oppression Shen Zhuo felt grew stronger.
In just twenty meters, Shen Zhuo’s mouth was full of the taste of rust.
His gland was throbbing faintly.
The boy clutched his chest, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, lifted his face, and walked firmly towards the door step by step.
The impact just now was too hard… it hurt.
“Du Xun… cough…”
“Du Xun, I’m here…”
Soothing Epiphyllum pheromones burst from his gland the moment he opened the door.
But the moment Shen Zhuo saw the man, his blood seemed to freeze.
The man sat on the desk, his neat military uniform torn open, shirt buttons scattered on the floor.
His eyes were full of bloodshot veins, looking like dripping blood. Blue veins bulged on his forehead and neck.
When he looked at the door, there was none of the usual gentle affection.
It was an aggressive ruthlessness.
A gloomy desire to tear everything apart.
“Get out!” The man roared low, seemingly unable to recognize him anymore. “Get out!”
In Du Xun’s hand was a red inhibitor.
Shen Zhuo didn’t move, enduring the increasingly intense pressure. The ribs that had been hit earlier felt like they were being crushed.
Shen Zhuo’s nose began to bleed.
But he couldn’t care about that.
The pheromones accumulated in his gland surged towards Du Xun.
At the same time, he braced himself against the wall, quickened his pace, reached Du Xun, and slapped the inhibitor away.
“Du Xun!” Shen Zhuo grabbed his hand, meeting the alpha’s violent eyes. “Look at me, look at me…”
Du Xun lowered his head, his eyes filled only with manic coldness.
——The susceptibility period, with his gland not fully recovered, made Du Xun almost lose his mind. He couldn’t even recognize the person in front of him.
Nor did he remember who he was.
He only knew that the pain suppressed in the cage had condensed into a beast, clawing bloody wounds on the softest part of his heart every day.
Who was he sad for?
Why was he sad?
Don’t know… can’t remember…
Can’t remember anything…
Du Xun, finally feeling the pheromone soothing, showed some confusion in his eyes.
This pheromone was so familiar.
Who… is this person?
Why cry?
Du Xun’s mind was in chaos, only pain like alternating fire and ice torture, as if he were in purgatory.
But in those memories and emotions torn and messed up, a few words slowly formed.
Like a sentence branded deep in the subconscious, like a proverb—
Cannot hurt him.
Cannot release oppressive pheromones on him.
Cannot use force, cannot be violent, absolutely absolutely cannot…
Countless “cannots” appearing in his mind even suppressed the chaos of the susceptibility period.
Du Xun slowly raised his hand, gently touching the boy’s cheek, his gaze blurred, carrying a heart-wrenching emptiness:
“Don’t… cry…”
Du Xun’s voice was very slow, squeezing out a few hoarse words from his throat:
“I won’t… hurt you…”
The familiar words made Shen Zhuo stunned for a moment.
Shen Zhuo took a step forward, wanting Du Xun to temporarily mark him first.
But the moment his foot landed, he stepped on something cylindrical.
Shen Zhuo looked down and only then realized that Du Xun’s feet were surrounded by empty inhibitors.
Nine.
Red, the most potent inhibitors.
Dense needle holes on Du Xun’s gland oozed blood.
“Du Xun…” Shen Zhuo’s voice was trembling.
Du Xun seemed to slowly regain some consciousness.
The eyes looking at Shen Zhuo became a little clearer.
But only a little.
“Baby… don’t be afraid…”
Words tinged with tenderness seemed to return to that doting alpha.
“What can I do for you?” Shen Zhuo grabbed his hand, squeezing his gland again to release soothing pheromones.
Du Xun looked with difficulty at the overturned cabinet on the side.
Documents and the previously made models were all smashed on the ground in a mess.
“In there…” Du Xun raised his hand pointing to a hidden compartment behind the cabinet.
Shen Zhuo immediately ran to open it.
He thought it was medicine, but when he saw the contents clearly, his face froze.
“Tie me… up…”
Forcing consciousness back caused a sharp increase in the burden on his gland again. Du Xun struggled to emit intermittent syllables, his pupils gradually losing focus again:
“Then… leave here…”
Shen Zhuo took out the items from the hidden compartment.
It was a bite guard similar to those for large dogs.
And a chain as thick as a wrist, with blood not completely washed clean.
