Chapter 13: Invoking Heavenly Lightning to Claim a Life, Execute
Yun Wuxiang: “For what matter has Fellow Daoist come to the Mortal Realm?”
Mo Yang’s eyes sharpened, his righteousness awe-inspiring as he declared, “To pursue and kill a demonic evil.”
Song Yilou: “He doesn’t have a Passage Token on him; he’s a stowaway.”
“Fellow Daoist entered the Mortal Realm privately?” Yun Wuxiang’s volume wasn’t high, nor did his tone carry any interrogation. It was flat and calm, yet falling into Mo Yang’s ears, it inexplicably made him feel a bit apprehensive, like a junior caught doing something wrong by an elder.
Mo Yang hurriedly explained, “I did not descend from the Descending Immortal Altar, but accidentally entered this place while pursuing a demonic evil. Therefore, I have no token.”
Song Yilou leisurely whistled. “No Passage Token, huh? Guanzhu, this fool can’t go back.”
Yun Wuxiang: “Since Fellow Daoist is pursuing an evil entity in the mortal world with such composure, you must have a way to return.”
Mo Yang’s face grew increasingly awkward. He looked at Yun Wuxiang, straightened the corners of his mouth, cupped his fists, and said thick-skinned, “Could Fellow Daoist please send a message to the Purple Cloud Sect for me after returning to the Immortal Realm, asking my sect to come pick me up?”
“See, I told you he couldn’t go back.” Song Yilou poked Yun Wuxiang with his finger. “Guanzhu, this guy hit me just now. If you help him, I won’t agree.”
Mo Yang glared over, grinding his back molars. This evil creature!
Yun Wuxiang: “I still have important matters in the mortal world and will not return in the short term.”
Help send a message? He didn’t have a Passage Token either, so how could he send it? Even if Song Yilou didn’t interrupt to cause trouble, he couldn’t possibly agree.
Mo Yang said, “There’s no rush for this. I haven’t found the demonic evil I’m looking for yet. Originally, seeing the evil aura at Prince Li’s Manor, I thought that demonic evil was hiding there, but instead, I found Fellow Daoist’s… Contract Pet.”
As he spoke, he swept a glance at the evil creature behind Yun Wuxiang. This evil creature is full of Yin malevolence, yet ultimately has a human form. Choosing such an evil creature as a Contract Pet…
Song Yilou pulled the corners of his mouth, revealing a gloomy, sinister smile full of malice.
Mo Yang frowned and said to Yun Wuxiang, “Fellow Daoist, I still feel it is inappropriate to keep an evil creature by your side.”
The sword in Yun Wuxiang’s hand turned back into a talisman and was stored in his sleeve. “This evil creature cannot be killed. I can only temporarily detain him by my side and keep him under strict watch.”
Mo Yang suddenly realized, “So that’s how it is!”
“Guanzhu!” A joyful voice rang out. Shen Lanqing and Prince Li, who had taken the long way through the door, finally caught up with Mo Yang’s footsteps.
Shen Lanqing immediately strode quickly to Yun Wuxiang, stopping two steps away. He spoke with perfect etiquette, “Guanzhu, many thanks for saving my life last time. We have always wanted to thank the Guanzhu properly. If the Guanzhu needs anything, please do not hesitate to ask.”
Prince Li chimed in, “Exactly.”
Yun Wuxiang swept a glance over the two, his gaze landing on Shen Lanqing. What did his disciple just say? We?
Shen Lanqing suddenly felt a chill down his spine. stealing another glance at his Master’s eyes, it seemed… seemingly… a bit unfriendly…
Catching a glimpse of the hem of the “Peach Blossom Calamity” out of the corner of his eye, Shen Lanqing instantly understood where the problem lay. His excited heart upon seeing his Master was instantly doused with a basin of snow water.
Right, his Master had warned him to be careful of the Peach Blossom Calamity. Yet what had he done in these two meetings with his Master?
Last time, he begged his Master to save the man. This time, he came over with the man.
It’s over. In his Master’s eyes, doesn’t he look like a huge idiot who knew there was danger but still fell into the Peach Blossom Calamity?!
Shen Lanqing’s mindset went from joy to apprehension with just a single look from Yun Wuxiang.
“No, there is still demonic evil aura above Prince Li’s Manor. I wasn’t seeing things earlier,” Mo Yang suddenly spoke up, looking up at Prince Li’s Manor.
He then looked at Shen Lanqing and Prince Li. “You two, I need to return to the manor now to continue searching for the demonic entity. Quickly, come with me.”
Shen Lanqing immediately said, “Okay!”
Yun Wuxiang: “I will go too.”
Shen Lanqing’s tone took a smooth turn. “Daoist Mo Yang, the terrain of the Prince’s Manor is complex. It would be more appropriate to let the manor’s old steward lead the way.”
Feeling his scalp tingle from being stared at, Shen Lanqing added, “But on second thought, such a fierce demonic evil must be extremely dangerous. The old steward is elderly; what if he gets scared out of his wits? It’s better if I lead the way for you all.”
Prince Li, following behind him, watched him silently.
Yun Wuxiang took this scene into his eyes. What is this? The attraction between the official couple?
Suddenly feeling a downward pull on his hair, he turned his head and saw Song Yilou holding his hair ribbon and smiling at him. “What is the Guanzhu looking at? You didn’t even notice I untied your hair ribbon.”
Now everyone’s gaze fell on the hair ribbon Song Yilou was playing with around his fingers. Their expressions varied, each harboring their own thoughts.
Only Mo Yang was focused solely on exorcising demons and breaking evil, completely oblivious to the subtle eye contact among the others. Seeing them all standing still, he urged in confusion, “Are we not going?”
Yun Wuxiang withdrew his gaze and said, “Let’s go.”
Mo Yang once again became the leader, forcing a straight path through the Prince’s Manor by climbing over walls, finally arriving at a courtyard. His gaze paused on a brand-new room.
Then, without a word, he rushed straight in. A heavy thud followed. When the others caught up, they saw he had already lifted the bed board in the room and was grabbing something from inside the bed frame.
When he took the object out and everyone looked closely, it was an irregular piece of copper.
Shen Lanqing asked, “This is the demonic evil?”
Mo Yang: “No, this is a part of the demonic evil’s main body. It is injured.”
Holding the copper piece, Mo Yang asked, “Whose residence is this?”
Prince Li spoke up: “Mine.”
Mo Yang turned to look at him. “No wonder I see darkness between your brows and dark circles under your eyes. Clearly, your physique does not resemble a sickly person, yet you show signs of a weak constitution and frequent illness, suspected to be weak Yang energy.”
Prince Li’s narrow eyes squinted slightly. Weak constitution and frequent illness? Weak Yang energy?
Shen Lanqing asked, “Is his problem serious?”
Prince Li said with a dark face, “I’m fine.”
Shen Lanqing: “Patient, don’t interrupt.”
Prince Li: “…”
Mo Yang: “He’s fine; getting more sun will do. However, your problem seems a bit bigger.”
“What problem do I have?” Shen Lanqing was somewhat surprised but not panicked in the slightest. His Master was here; there was nothing his Master couldn’t solve.
Mo Yang looked at the copper piece, then at him. “Not quite sure, but you seem to have been marked by this demonic evil.”
A divine light flashed in Yun Wuxiang’s eyes. The copper mirror was stained with dark green Yin energy. looking at Shen Lanqing’s brow again, a similar mass of energy was gathered there.
Stepping forward, he placed a finger between Shen Lanqing’s eyebrows, preparing to wipe away that Yin energy.
Mo Yang hurriedly shouted, “Fellow Daoist, wait! Wiping away the mark now might alert the enemy, letting that demonic evil notice something is wrong.”
Yun Wuxiang lifted his eyelids slightly. “Can you guarantee he won’t encounter any mishaps if this mark remains?”
Mo Yang: “There are some risks, but I will follow him constantly, ensuring that as soon as the demonic evil makes a move, I will immediately…”
Yun Wuxiang: “If you can’t, shut up.”
Mo Yang immediately shut his mouth. Hearing his teacher’s tone, Shen Lanqing also straightened up. The two stood there like students who had made a mistake in class, honestly accepting their punishment.
Yun Wuxiang completely wiped away the Yin energy on Shen Lanqing, then took out an Evil-Dispelling Spirit-Protecting Talisman and handed it to him. “Carry this with you.”
If the Green Dragon Jade Bangle hadn’t broken, the evil energy wouldn’t have been able to get near his disciple at all. Just make do with a talisman for now.
Shen Lanqing took the talisman, nodding like a chick pecking rice. “I will definitely carry it close to my body and never let it leave me.”
Yun Wuxiang looked at Mo Yang again. “What do you exorcise demons for?”
Mo Yang said without hesitation, “To eliminate demons and defend the Dao, to protect the common people.”
His gaze was firm, his eyes piercingly bright, his whole being carrying a persistent spirit of fighting to the end for his beliefs.
But Yun Wuxiang returned four words to him: “Putting the cart before the horse.”
Mo Yang was stunned, his gaze falling on Shen Lanqing and then on the copper piece in his hand.
He pursued demonic evils to save people, yet put people in danger to kill demonic evils.
“But if we don’t find that demonic evil soon, it will harm more people.” Mo Yang frowned tightly, extremely conflicted.
“If you can’t even save the person right under your nose, what’s the point of talking about saving more people? What you should be thinking about is not who to sacrifice, but how to become stronger.”
Yun Wuxiang walked up to Mo Yang. Mo Yang actually felt an impulse to retreat. Even though he believed in his heart that he hadn’t done anything wrong, he inexplicably felt a lack of confidence.
“If you make this kind of choice too often, you won’t be able to see other paths.”
Slender fingers holding a talisman landed on the copper piece in Mo Yang’s hand. The talisman transformed into lightning chains, wrapping around the copper piece. Then, the chains extended into the distance, leading in three different directions—two close by, one completely opposite.
Yun Wuxiang closed his eyes, concealing the crimson color in their depths, his lips parting lightly: “Execute.”
The chains trembled, erupting with the might of thunder.
From an unknown corner in the distance came a mournful scream—the final sound of a demonic evil on the brink of death. Everyone who heard it could feel the soul-penetrating despair within that sound.
Yun Wuxiang opened his eyes. The crimson color faded, but the killing intent in his brownish-black pupils did not dissipate.
Those who intend harm to the protagonist shall all be executed.
This was something permitted by the World Consciousness. In other words, specially allowed by the Heavenly Dao.
“Truly amazing, Guanzhu. So why didn’t you use this talisman on me?” Song Yilou was the first to recover from that scream, his eyes flashing with excitement mixed with a trace of confusion.
Yun Wuxiang’s mouth curled into a mocking sneer. “You think I haven’t used it?”
Speaking of this made him angry.
The “Invoking Heavenly Lightning to Claim a Life” Talisman required stating one’s request to the Heavens in one’s heart when used. Only if the Heavens consented could one borrow Heavenly Lightning to execute evil spirits.
To put it more colloquially, using this talisman was like making a phone call to the Heavenly Dao to explain your reason for borrowing lightning. If the Heavenly Dao agreed, lightning would strike. If the Heavenly Dao disagreed, sorry, this talisman wouldn’t work.
Yun Wuxiang bad made countless mental calls to the Heavenly Dao asking to kill Song Yilou’s Vital Gu, but the Heavenly Dao hadn’t replied even once. Now that the protagonist was threatened, it came immediately upon invitation.
Heh, no profit, no early rising. Even the Heavenly Dao is the same.
Gurgle…
A string of bubbling sounds called back everyone’s attention, looking toward the source of the sound.
Mo Yang, with his dashing sword-brows and starry eyes, now had a face flushed to the color of a semi-ripe tomato. He looked at Prince Li in embarrassment. “May I ask, if only the first half of the exorcism was done, is there still a reward?”
Why look at Prince Li? Because this was Prince Li’s Manor, and he was the richest person in the manor.
Receiving no response, Mo Yang became even more humble. “Or, are there any leftovers in the kitchen… I can work for food; I’m quite strong.”
Everyone: “…”
What an honest person.
Even Song Yilou was laughing in Yun Wuxiang’s ear. “Hahaha, this guy is probably really a fool. How did his sect dare to let him out on his own? I haven’t met such a dullard in a long time, hahahahaha…”
Yun Wuxiang rarely agreed with Song Yilou, but with Mo Yang’s personality, saying a few extra words to strangers outside carried the risk of being scammed and abducted. How did his sect dare to let him out alone?
