Chapter 28: I Like You So Much
Liang Yuhang raised his hand and pinched his chin. “What did you say?”
Mu Feng finally snapped out of it, his voice softening slightly. “He hurt you. He deserves to be…”
“Mu Feng.” Liang Yuhang interrupted him sternly. “Get that thought out of your head completely. Don’t even think about it.”
Mu Feng’s lips moved.
He was actually quite a “bad” person, not nearly as pure and kind as he appeared on the surface. He only had one standard for judgment.
Whoever hurt Liang Yuhang would have to pay a hundredfold.
He was just young, but that didn’t mean he didn’t hold grudges. The future was long; there would always be time to settle the score.
Liang Yuhang applied a bit of force, lifting his head higher and forcing him to meet his gaze. “You are not allowed to have those thoughts. Answer me.”
Forced to look up, Mu Feng’s eyes held a stubborn light. “Why?”
“No matter which path you choose in the future, I want your hands to be clean.”
Liang Yuhang looked at him. “I’m not some kind of saintly good person either. I have my own ways of handling things, and I don’t need you to intervene.”
Liang Yuhang was pushing him away.
Mu Feng felt a bit aggrieved. He looked down at the wound on the man’s arm; fresh blood had already soaked the shirt and was dripping down.
“I’ll bandage it for you first,” he said in a low voice.
Liang Yuhang, however, stood there without moving. “Are you angry?”
“No, how would I dare be angry with you?” But Mu Feng’s tone clearly suggested he was unconvinced.
Liang Yuhang frowned and sat on the edge of the sofa, watching as Mu Feng brought the medical kit over and knelt halfway at his feet.
Like a docile kitten, though today he had discovered that the “kitten” wasn’t actually that obedient.
“The shirt… please take it off,” Mu Feng said.
With a cold face, Liang Yuhang unbuttoned the shirt and held out his injured arm. Fortunately, because he had dodged, it was only a graze; the wound wasn’t too deep.
Mu Feng was indeed a good student; his handling and bandaging were very quick, though his small face remained tightly set.
Liang Yuhang looked down at him. How could someone with such an innocent face say something like that?
“Many people have their eyes on the research project we’re doing at the base. The intruder might have come for that, or perhaps for something else—to find leverage against me. Regardless of the reason, the situation is very complex.”
Liang Yuhang patiently explained to him, “Murder is a crime. Don’t ruin your own future. I’ll treat what you said today as a result of being drunk. Don’t mention it again.”
Mu Feng gave a very soft “mhm.”
Liang Yuhang’s expression was neutral. He looked down. “Truly difficult to teach.”
The pressure from those four words was too strong, carrying a hint of disappointment.
Mu Feng panicked a bit, looking up to defend himself. “No, I’m very easy to teach.”
“Then be obedient.”
Liang Yuhang leaned his head back against the sofa and sent a message to 0717.
[Hand is injured. Tell Dr. Zhang to take over tomorrow’s surgery.]
0717 was horrified: “Heavens! How intense was it that you even injured your hand? Let me see! Open the video and let me see!”
Liang Yuhang started settling accounts: “Someone broke into the house and you didn’t know? I told you to monitor daily when I’m not here, and you didn’t notice this? It’s a gunshot wound. What are you screaming about?”
“Ah, this… this…”
0717 was scared to death. “The little 0717 worked diligently for two hundred days and only slacked off for one, and this happens! I’m going to check the surveillance right now! Waaaah, I won’t sleep tonight until I find the culprit who ruined my perfect rating.”
Liang Yuhang found him annoying and cut the communication.
He stood up, looking even taller, while Mu Feng remained in the same bandaging position, kneeling halfway by the sofa.
Liang Yuhang glanced at him. “I’m going to shower. Kneel for another five minutes and reflect properly.”
Mu Feng could feel that Professor Liang was truly angry.
Perhaps it was because he had been bullied since childhood that his thoughts and actions were very savage—if someone bullied him, he had to give it back. No one had ever taught him what he should do.
“0717,” Mu Feng whispered. “When you find the result, can you tell me?”
“Good lord, I wouldn’t dare.”
After watching the surveillance and hearing the conversation, 0717 felt as if the sky were falling. “Just be a bit more obedient. The Boss is super scary when he’s angry. I’m even afraid you’ll get beaten.”
Mu Feng sighed. “Fine, I won’t make it difficult for you.”
0717 added, “Why does a kid like you talk about killing all the time? It’s not good. If you’ve drunk too much, go to sleep early. There’s honey in the kitchen to help with the alcohol. I’m going to get busy, waaaaah.”
Mu Feng stayed there, unmoving.
His mind had been full of other things earlier, but now, he realized belatedly that perhaps due to the wound or the blood, the room was filled with the scent of Absinthe.
And it was getting stronger.
Mu Feng’s breathing became rapid. He looked down and adjusted his suppression bracelet to the highest setting.
But the Alpha pheromones were simply too powerful. Combined with the delayed reaction from the alcohol, his whole body felt feverish.
“Why are you still kneeling?”
Liang Yuhang came out of the bathroom with the dampness of the shower still on him. He reached out to pull him up, sensing that something was wrong with his state.
Mu Feng looked up at him and said honestly, “I want to punch you.”
Liang Yuhang: ?
What nonsense is this?
Mu Feng reached out to push him. “Stay away from me, or I’ll really want to punch you.”
The repulsion between Alphas was on full display. He seemed unable to completely escape the rejection caused by the pheromones.
Liang Yuhang found it amusing. “What? The result of your few minutes of reflection is that you want to pick a fight with me?”
Mu Feng patted his disobedient mouth. “No, I might really have drunk too much. Just leave me alone and let me find a place to crawl off and die.”
“The drunk has started going crazy.”
Liang Yuhang just assumed he was drunk and didn’t take it seriously, pulling him up from the floor and pushing him toward the bathroom.
He took out a set of his own pajamas and handed them over. “Take a shower before sleeping. Don’t fall.”
Mu Feng hummed in response, grabbing the clothes and heading in dizzily. Only after closing the door did he take a large gasp of air.
This won’t do. I need to formulate a new reagent. Professor Liang is still too powerful.
He raised a hand to cover his heart, talking to himself: “I feel like my heart rate is almost a hundred and fifty.”
Mu Feng finished his shower and changed into Liang Yuhang’s pajamas. He grabbed the collar and sniffed it over and over. So fragrant.
“Mu Feng,” Liang Yuhang called his name through the door.
Mu Feng answered, opened the door, and circled around him to get out, maintaining his distance.
Liang Yuhang’s gaze fell on him. The clothes were still a bit loose for him, the collar open to reveal his beautiful collarbones.
He realized something. “I’m not going to do anything to you. Why are you standing so far away?”
Mu Feng waved his hand. “Better not. Let’s keep some distance tonight.”
To anyone else, he looked like the one who was repulsed.
Actually, it was the opposite.
Mu Feng thought viciously to himself: If I had known this would happen, I should have jabbed myself with two extra suppressants before leaving.
He had missed another good opportunity to act drunk and clingy. Damn it.
Liang Yuhang felt he finally had some self-awareness as an Omega, which wasn’t a bad thing.
So he placed the glass on the counter. “Fine. Drink the honey water and go to sleep.”
Mu Feng stayed where he was, struggling to take the honey water and gulping it down in large mouthfuls.
Liang Yuhang thought to himself: He really is treating me like a predator.
What could I possibly do to scare him this much?
“There’s a toothbrush in the second bedroom. Head to bed when you’re done,” Liang Yuhang said, stretching his neck. “Goodnight.”
Mu Feng had drunk the honey, so his words were also sweet: “Goodnight, Professor Liang.”
But he couldn’t sleep at all. Wearing Liang Yuhang’s clothes and lying in Liang Yuhang’s bed—even if it was the second bedroom, this was a qualitative leap.
He wanted to share it with someone.
[M]: Major Xie, are you asleep?
[M]: You’re not asleep at 2 AM. Is something on your mind?
[xxc: What do you think? Are you getting revenge for my previous harassment?!]
[M]: No, really, no. I just have a question I want to consult you on.
[xxc: Go ahead.]
[M]: I went home with the person I like today. I’m currently lying in his bed.
[M]: His clothes smell so good.
[xxc: Actually, there’s no need to be this detailed.]
[M]: I’m so dizzy right now. I don’t know if it’s because I’m too excited.
[xxc: And now you’re coming to stimulate this lonely single youth? Wow, so this is the hospitality of the Eighth Galaxy.]
[M]: I’ve been harassed by you for so many days! Is it so bad for you to listen for once?!
[xxc: Then may I ask, since you’ve already gone home with him, why aren’t you taking the chance to develop things instead of chatting with me?]
[M]: Oh, I seem to be running a bit of a fever from his pheromones. I don’t dare get close.
[xxc: Never mind. I won’t lead a kid astray. Just go to sleep.]
Mu Feng understood the subtext perfectly.
If only he were an Omega, he would have taken the chance to do this or that. What a pity.
If he took off his suppression bracelet, the two of them would just end up fighting until they didn’t know up from down.
Mu Feng sighed. “Sigh, being Double-A is so hard.”
He lay on the pillow, feeling his head grow heavy, and eventually drifted off into a hazy sleep.
Perhaps because he had seen Liang Yuhang without a shirt while bandaging him, he had a long-overdue erotic dream.
“Be a bit gentler…”
When Liang Yuhang finished checking the encrypted files in the study and pushed the door open, he heard those words.
He approached, placing a hand on Mu Feng’s forehead; it was still a bit warm.
Just as he was about to turn and leave, his wrist was grabbed.
“Not asleep?” Liang Yuhang turned. In the pitch-black room, he couldn’t see the other’s expression, only feeling that the person was like a ball of fire, leaning toward him.
Liang Yuhang felt the other crash into his embrace.
“Mu Feng, are you dreaming?”
“Mhm… haven’t seen you in so long.” Mu Feng pressed against his cheek, murmuring to himself. “Why haven’t you come to find me lately?”
Liang Yuhang narrowed his eyes. “Who? The person you like?”
Mu Feng gave a hum of affirmation, whispering, “Mhm… I like you so much. You haven’t come to see me lately.”
Liang Yuhang looked down. Was it because he had been locked in the base and they couldn’t meet?
So, did he run out today and fail to see that person, which was why he asked to be picked up?
Liang Yuhang: “…”
Fine. He can like whoever he wants; it has nothing to do with me.
Liang Yuhang reached out to pull the clinging hands off him, pressing him back into the pillow. “Go to sleep.”
However, the other was very rebellious and surprisingly strong, lunging forward once again with enthusiasm.
“Kiss me before you go,” Mu Feng murmured.
Liang Yuhang’s pulse throbbed at his temples. He reached out and grabbed the back of his neck. “See clearly who I am.”
Mu Feng kept his eyes closed, offering no answer.
“Why bother with a drunk?” Liang Yuhang let go, preparing to get up once more.
Mu Feng, however, lunged forward recklessly, looking up and biting his lower lip.
Liang Yuhang’s breathing instantly grew heavy as he heard the other laugh triumphantly: “Caught you.”
Translator’s Note:
“Double-A” refers to a relationship between two Alphas. Usually, in Omegaverse stories, the Alpha/Omega dynamic is the standard, so two Alphas are often seen as incompatible due to pheromone repulsion. Mu Feng’s internal struggle is real! Also, the scent of “Absinthe” (苦艾) for Liang Yuhang is so fitting—bitter and intoxicating.
