Unconventional Omega Assistant Chapter 18

Chapter 18

He Yuan clamped the umbrella handle between his head and shoulder, freeing his hands to contact the robot butler.

“Hello, He Yuan. Have you arrived?” The robot butler appeared on the mobile screen. “You got wet.”

Although it was a robot, he could almost hear the underlying meaning: You promised you wouldn’t get wet.

“Because plans changed! Butler, did you know…”

The rain was too heavy, forcing He Yuan to raise his voice. After he finished explaining the situation, the robot butler began searching for information.

“At this time and location… no new findings.” It then tried to contact Wen Su. “… Admiral Wen Su is currently unreachable.”

“Huh?”

He Yuan froze as a thought occurred to him.

The robot butler analyzed the situation and said, “The fact that Admiral Wen Su is unreachable suggests he is still on the mission. The event was not held as scheduled; it may have been canceled, or postponed to wait for the Admiral. The temporary changes haven’t been synchronized with the military system, so I cannot find any records.”

“Looks like that’s it,” He Yuan said glumly.

What should he do now?

Leave or keep waiting?

If the event was truly canceled, leaving would be fine. But if it was merely postponed, leaving would mean missing it.

But how long would he have to wait?

He Yuan looked up at the sky.

The curtain of rain was heavy and dark. It was just a very ordinary day, and even if an accident occurred, it was a very ordinary accident. Yet strangely, he suddenly felt as if he were standing at a crossroads in his life, about to make a super, super important decision.

“Thank you, Butler!” He smiled earnestly at the screen. “I’ll wait a bit longer and see.”

A voice in his heart told him not to leave.

“You could find a restaurant or hotel to take shelter from the rain,” the robot butler suggested kindly.

“But I’m afraid they might arrive the moment I leave. I’d better wait here for now. If I really can’t wait any longer, I’ll decide then.”

They had lived together for over two months, yet neither he nor Wen Su had ever suggested exchanging contact information, probably because they were under the same roof every day and completely overlooked the need for remote communication.

However, accidents always arrive unexpectedly, just like this heavy rain.

Habit and laziness are no match for being thoroughly prepared; he still had many areas where he needed to improve.

“In that case, I will assist you by attempting to contact Admiral Wen Su continuously,” the robot butler said.

“That would be great! Sorry for the trouble!”

The robot butler’s system experienced a momentary lag.

It was a program; how could there be such a thing as “trouble”?

But facing He Yuan’s shimmering eyes and smiling face, it still bowed slightly and responded, “You are welcome. It is no trouble.”

The video call ended. He Yuan looked around. This building complex was the activity zone of the Military Headquarters, equipped with an access control system. When no events were being held, there were no people.

He checked the map provided by the robot butler again. If someone were to arrive, they would likely appear first at the maglev parking lot in the northwest…

He would go near there!

Running through the rain all the way, all that was left was to wait.

At first, He Yuan stood the whole time. Later, when he really couldn’t stand anymore, he walked to the curb and sat down, his large eyes watching the surging rainwater.

His luck today was really quite bad.

One hour, two hours… until most of the day had passed, and there was still no progress.

His body felt uncomfortable.

It wasn’t that he hadn’t thought about giving up. But whenever the thought of maybe I should leave first arose, another stronger voice would always tell him to hold on a little longer.

Just wait a bit longer, just ten more minutes, just five more minutes…

The cycle repeated endlessly.

He stubbornly kept watch from morning until dusk.

The rain hadn’t stopped, and the wind had grown stronger. The city lights turned on, transforming dots and blocks of color into dizzying, flowing radiance.

But finally, someone appeared!

Right over by the parking lot!

His deadened heart was instantly activated. He stood up in excitement, but after running just two steps, his head suddenly spun, and his hands lost all strength. The umbrella flew backward, and his whole body pitched forward with a thud, crashing hard into the rainwater.

He couldn’t get up.

No strength left.

His head was buzzing loudly.

Only his eyes could still move. His eyelids blinked laboriously, and into his limited field of vision came many legs and many feet stepping through the mirror-like reflective rainwater, approaching him. In those reflections, he seemed to see…

Mm.

The world abruptly plunged into darkness and silence.

Wen Su’s world was almost the same.

Except for the weak, drowned-rat-like Omega lying in the rain before him, and the sound of the rain, everything else turned into a silent film from an old movie.

Colorless, out of focus, shaking, emitting a faint hiss of electric current.

Colleagues surrounded the Omega, preparing to help.

A faint electric current suddenly pricked his spine. He threw away his umbrella and walked forward, pushing aside all his colleagues. He took off his jacket, bent down to wrap it around the Omega’s body, and picked him up in his arms.

Like holding a toy.

That was how weak he was.

Weaker than ever before.

His colleagues were dumbfounded, invariably casting extremely strange looks at Wen Su—how could he do such a thing!

“He is my life assistant. He came to find me.”

Saying this calmly, Wen Su turned and walked toward the building, his pace noticeably faster.

The colleagues looked at each other in dismay.

Only Song Pei reacted the fastest, chasing after him as if he had realized something. “Wen Su, your life assistant… why is he an Omega?”

After blacking out and waking up again, He Yuan blinked blankly while lying in a comfortable bed.

It was a very unfamiliar room, but there was a very familiar person.

Just like the time he woke up after falling asleep from exhaustion while gaming, Wen Su was sitting on the sofa to the side, facing a virtual screen.

Then, he put away the screen, shifted his gaze, and walked over.

“You’re awake? Do you feel any better?”

He Yuan hurriedly sat up. Looking down, he saw he was wearing a brand-new set of pajamas.

“I…”

“A cold and fever left untreated, combined with getting caught in the rain, triggered pneumonia. It’s not severe. You’ve been given special medication. Next, you need to continue the medication and ensure you get rest and nutrition.”

“Oh.” He Yuan was still a bit dazed.

Wen Su stood by the bed, one hand in his trouser pocket, and continued to explain, “There is a medical team here, as well as a suite reserved for me year-round. You can recuperate here until you recover. If you recover well, you can also leave with me when the event ends.”

The word “event” suddenly grabbed He Yuan’s scattered spirit. His eyes lit up, and his hands gripped the duvet cover.

“Right! The competition! General Sir, why…”

“A sudden situation arose during my mission with General Tulip, and we couldn’t return as planned. Headquarters decided to wait until we returned to hold the event. The end time of the emergency couldn’t be predicted, so Headquarters didn’t update the information, and the robot butler couldn’t find it. After the mission ended, I received the robot butler’s message, and it told me everything.”

Wen Su paused, looking at He Yuan.

“Fortunately, it only took us half a day to resolve the emergency.”

If they hadn’t returned a short while ago, hadn’t happened to run into He Yuan, and hadn’t found him collapsed in the rain like that, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

He was clearly weak, yet he insisted on acting tough.

The hand Wen Su had in his pocket clenched into a fist.

But He Yuan didn’t seem to think about that at all.

There was no regret or lingering fear on his face, only a sudden realization, followed by slowly emerging guilt.

“I’m sorry, General Sir! It’s all my fault for acting on my own and causing you trouble!”

A life assistant was supposed to take care of people, yet here he was being taken care of. It really shouldn’t have happened!

“Right, right, so the Mecha Appearance Competition hasn’t started yet?”

Wen Su nodded. “It starts tomorrow morning.”

“That’s great! I can make it!” He Yuan smiled, looking left and right. When he saw his backpack on the sofa, his gaze stopped, and he happily prepared to get out of bed.

“Don’t move.”

Wen Su went and brought the bag over.

“Thank you, General Sir!”

The bag was clean, with no stains from the rain. Wen Su must have cleaned it for him. Even if he didn’t do it personally, the fact that Admiral Wen Su thought of it made him a truly good person!

He Yuan took a small box out of the backpack. “This is the exterior outfit I made for Lord Chongming. Part of it is installed on Lord Chongming, and the other part is the remote control! Um… do you want to try it now?”

Wen Su accepted the box and said, “It’s too late now.”

“Mm.” He Yuan felt a bit regretful. “General Sir, can I go watch the competition tomorrow?”

Wen Su subconsciously wanted to say no, because the Omega was already weak and sick, the weather had been bad these past two days, and the competition was held outdoors. Going might worsen his condition.

But he found the Omega’s expression was full of anticipation, so he changed his words: “If your symptoms alleviate.”

It was strange. Rationally, he should have refused.

He always acted based on objective conditions and rational analysis. Why was it that this time, just because of a mere expression…

“Okay!” The Omega didn’t give him any room to take it back. He raised his hands high, smiling until his eyes curved in excitement. “Then I’ll sleep right now to recharge! You’ve been working hard lately too, General Sir, please get some sleep early!”

Facing this cute and enthusiastic scene, Wen Su’s expression and heart involuntarily softened.

Because he was still single, his exclusive residence wasn’t laid out as a family home, but rather as an executive luxury hotel-style suite, convenient for one person’s living and working needs.

It was divided into a public area and a private area. The public area included a reception room, study, and dining room. The private area contained the master bedroom, a lounge, a bathroom, and a restroom.

Soundproof walls and doors separated the public and private areas. Inside the two major zones, there were no full walls or doors, but rather lightweight, carved, openwork half-partitions extending from the ceiling down to the height of Wen Su’s chest. The restroom and bathroom used fully enclosed glass walls, making the space appear very open.

Now, there was an addition: He Yuan.

A weak Omega, and a patient at that. Protecting the weak was the bounden duty of a strong Alpha. Wen Su naturally let He Yuan sleep in the master bedroom while he took the daybed in the lounge.

Lights off. Above the half-partitions, the room’s furnishings were hazy; below the half-partitions, the outline of the person sleeping under the covers was clear and distinct.

The rain outside hadn’t stopped yet.

Accompanied by the slight whir of the indoor air system, He Yuan, who had already slept once, found it hard to fall asleep right away.

Afraid of disturbing Wen Su, he restrained himself from moving, lying quietly flat and staring blankly, his eyes blinking at the ceiling.

After a while, Wen Su’s deep voice resonated in the silence.

“You can’t sleep? Are you feeling uncomfortable?”

He Yuan instantly jolted and hurriedly said, “No, no! I just slept for a long time earlier…”

Admiral Wen Su was too sensitive. Was this the terrifying aspect of a top-tier combatant?! But well…

“General Sir, you aren’t sleeping either?” He kicked his feet gently under the covers. “Have you… been sleeping well lately? Any headaches or insomnia? I haven’t sung or read poetry to you before bed recently.”

“No headaches and no insomnia. Old illnesses don’t relapse that easily. I’m not sleeping now because I’m thinking about something.”

“Oh.” He Yuan didn’t ask what he was thinking about.

That wasn’t a question he should ask.

The reason he upset Wen Su last time was precisely because he lacked measure and spoke without thinking. He couldn’t make the same mistake again.

And speaking of last time, it was actually this time!

Because he got sick, Admiral Wen Su returned to normal and forgave him, but how could he just muddle through by playing the victim?!

Gripping the duvet tightly again, he took a deep breath to prepare himself.

“General Sir, I want to apologize to you. I’m sorry.”

In the darkness, Wen Su, who had been answering instantly, clearly paused for a moment before asking in confusion, “For what?”

“I want to say I’m sorry to you.” Once the first sentence was out, the rest came easier. “Last time… the night I had the great honor of riding Lord Chongming, I told you that my classmates thought we were dating… I want to apologize to you for that super unmeasured remark!”

“Because I felt that you have such great character, General Sir, and that you somewhat approved of me, I got carried away for a moment. I thought a joke wouldn’t matter, so I just said it! I absolutely, absolutely, absolutely didn’t mean to offend you!”

“But in reality, it did offend you. That kind of joke can’t be made casually! I have deeply reflected on myself!”

“Um… I didn’t lie about that sentence. My classmates really did misunderstand, but please rest assured, I have seriously denied it. I won’t cause you any follow-up trouble.”

He Yuan stopped.

He had said a lot, but Wen Su didn’t respond with a single word.

In the darkness, the two lay separately, unable to see each other’s expressions. He didn’t possess Wen Su’s refined perception capabilities, so he couldn’t help but feel a little apprehensive.

“Please rest assured,” he couldn’t help but add.

Wen Su still didn’t speak.

He panicked a little, his speech speeding up slightly.

“I, I know General Sir was angry before, um… You indeed should be angry, but there’s no need to be angry for too long. It’s not worth it! For a boring remark I made off the cuff, it’s really not worth it! General Sir, you…”

“You are very nervous?” Wen Su finally spoke.

He Yuan paused, then nodded vigorously. “Mm.”

“Why are you nervous?” Wen Su turned the tables.

“Because I’m afraid you’re still angry with me, General Sir, and even more afraid that you don’t want me anymore.”

He couldn’t be fired!

“Did I say I didn’t want you?”

“No.” He Yuan shook his head back and forth on the pillow.

Listening to the friction sound, an image appeared in Wen Su’s mind, and a smile touched his face.

“Do I look like I’m very angry?” Wen Su asked again.

He Yuan chose his words carefully. “Not right now.”

“I am not angry,” Wen Su said firmly.

He wasn’t lying. All along, his emotion hadn’t been anger, but rather…

“Omega.”

“… My name is He Yuan.”

“… Fine, He Yuan.”

“Here! Please give your orders, General Sir.”

“Don’t bring up the past anymore.”

“Huh? … Oh.”

“If you want to watch the competition, go to sleep quickly and recover quickly.”

“… Oh.”

“Close your eyes.”

“Oh.”

He Yuan did as told, somewhat bewildered.

“Relax your body. Why are you tense even when sleeping?”

“… Oh.”

Only then did He Yuan realize that his brow and shoulders were indeed tense.

He tried his best to relax, curling up sideways into the blanket. Gradually, he seemed to smell a trace of intoxicating, faint fragrance again, and he finally lost consciousness once more.

When the wind and rain ceased, Wen Su got out of bed and walked toward the master bedroom.

The dim light before dawn leaked through the gap in the curtains. On the large bed, He Yuan was hiding in the soft duvet, revealing only a small patch of cheek and fluffy hair. He was just a very, very small lump.

Suddenly, he frowned and moved, seeming uncomfortable.

Wen Su gently covered that delicate forehead with his large palm; the fever hadn’t completely subsided yet.

Weak.

How could he watch the competition tomorrow like this?

He released his pheromones again, controlling the Tequila scent to be gentler and softer than ever before, letting it surround the Omega.

There was no alcohol, yet it was deeply intoxicating; the Omega wouldn’t wake up no matter what.

Reassured, Wen Su gently lifted the duvet and lay down inside, turning sideways to protect the person in his arms.
