Chapter 3
[I take back what I said yesterday – General Wen Su is not as disliked as I thought, he’s cold on the outside but warm on the inside.]
After sending this message defending Wen Su to his friend, He Yuan put away his phone and continued his work with renewed vigor.
Running, exercising, tending the flowers and plants, indoor cleaning… At 11:30 am, he started preparing lunch.
Just a little extra on top of the official meal.
Looking at the schedule, General Wen Su not only had office work today, but also needed to go out and organize training. The extra meal should be a bit more substantial.
The General seemed to quite enjoy sweet foods…
Sweet and sour chicken wings it is!
In the kitchen, He Yuan was bustling about. The rich sauce was bubbling in the pot, the aromas of meat, vinegar, and caramelized sugar wafting up his nose. 3, 2, 1… the timer went off, time to take it off the heat!
“Ding, ding, ding, ding!”
At 12:15 pm, He Yuan, still in his apron, came to the dining room carrying a tray, his enthusiastic smile meeting Wen Su’s cold expression.
“You can leave,” Wen Su suddenly remembered this matter.
He Yuan was taken aback, the smile freezing on his face.
“Leave, I don’t need you. I wanted to make you leave last night, but you were drowning and suffocating, so out of sympathy I let you stay the night. Now that I see you’ve caused no harm, you can leave.”
It took him the entire morning to sort out this righteous train of thought.
Caught off guard, He Yuan blinked his large brown eyes helplessly.
There seemed to be a sheen of tears in those eyes, and Wen Su averted his gaze, saying, “Hurry up and leave, I’ve never had to repeat an order three times, please know your limits. You have half an hour to pack your bags, and after that, I don’t want to see you again.”
Having issued this ultimatum, Wen Su sat down and began eating the official meal, his expression blank.
He Yuan continued holding the tray, only now feeling the weight in his hands becoming too much to bear.
Wanting to make amends, yet finding it so difficult.
“I… I understand, then… goodbye, General. Although I no longer have the chance, I still believe I could have done well as your life assistant. If you change your mind…”
Wen Su’s gaze turned sharp.
He Yuan flinched, quickly closing his mouth and putting down the tray. “Okay, okay, I’ll leave now. This is the extra meal for you – sweet and sour chicken wings, the last time. I hope you’ll enjoy it.”
His voice had lowered.
Wen Su gave no response, and He Yuan sighed inwardly, finally leaving dejectedly.
Wen Su’s gaze finally shifted to the tray.
It was covered with a lid, causing him, just like last night, to involuntarily start imagining the dish beneath.
One, two, or three wings?
Arranged side by side or stacked?
Just the wings or with side dishes?
The lid was good, not a single scent leaking out…
Suddenly, the sound of wheels pulled him back to his senses, and in the corner of his eye, he saw He Yuan leaving through the door.
The door was heavy, and He Yuan’s large suitcase and backpack made it difficult for him to open and close it while moving.
Truly a weak Omega.
And carrying so much luggage, did he think he’d successfully seduce him and then stay long-term?
Both scheming and naive.
Wen Su snorted disdainfully, thinking that driving him away was the absolutely right decision.
“Sigh.”
Standing outside the villa, He Yuan looked up at the sky, his mood very low.
Barely 30 hours on the job and he’s been fired. How will his professor’s research progress be affected, impacting national affairs? He couldn’t face going back.
And he didn’t even know how to get back.
He had been brought here by a military logistics management department specialist, the journey kept secret, so he couldn’t see the outside and didn’t know the name or exact location of this base, only that it was large with a complex terrain, possibly even dangerous.
Suppressing his guilt, he tried calling his professor, but no one answered, likely busy.
Wanting to wait a bit, but remembering Wen Su’s words about not wanting to see him again, he decided to move a little farther away.
Just a little, it should be fine.
Outside the villa’s perimeter, the first thing he encountered was a forest. Not far in, he felt a chill rising from the ground.
Losing the sunlight overhead, the damp wind occasionally blowing through, he found a sturdy tree to sit down by, placing his suitcase and backpack beside him.
While waiting for his professor’s call, he sent another message to his good friend: [I take back what I said this morning, General Wen Su is indeed very difficult to get along with.]
The forest was tranquil, the occasional light sound of leaves rustling and birds flapping their wings. Reflecting on his short-lived job, he gradually grew more and more sleepy.
From the moment he arrived yesterday morning, he had been constantly active, constantly thinking, passionately arguing with Wen Su, and unfortunately attacked by the mecha – he had slept less than five hours last night. Today’s ups and downs had exhausted him, and as soon as he was idle, he became overwhelmingly fatigued, his head nodding up and down, until finally he fell asleep, hugging his backpack and leaning against the tree trunk.
He dreamed that he went back, and General Wen Su ate the food he made with great delight, and in other aspects was also cared for by him very warmly, becoming a very amiable Alpha, with his combat capabilities greatly enhanced!
All thanks to his diligent work and research leading to positive conclusions.
Providing life assistants and enriching life became a must-have perk for high-ranking officers, and was being widely implemented.
His professor, the school, and the country all commended him, and he stood on the award stage, his mouth unable to close from happiness!
Just as he was about to give his acceptance speech, suddenly a huge fireball “whooshed” out of his mouth!
The fireball slammed into the audience seats, directly overturning the chairs, the venue shaking violently!
…This wasn’t a dream!
He Yuan jolted awake, the surrounding darkness — the ground tilting, stratifying, cracking, trees snapping and collapsing, a raging flood surging in from somewhere…
Even a major earthquake wasn’t this terrifying!
He barely had time to stand up, hastily clutching his backpack and suitcase, tumbling and rolling down the abruptly changing slopes, bouncing off the cliffs, rocks, and fallen trees. Each time he tried to regain control of his body, an even greater force and more dramatic terrain changes would strike, easily knocking down his desperate attempts to stand!
“Ahhhhh!”
Seeing the waterfall looming ahead, so high up!
He Yuan screamed, launched like a cannon ball off the waterfall, his backpack and suitcase scattering in different directions.
Disoriented and rapidly carried downstream, then another steep slope ahead!
Wen Su: !!!!!
Standing at the high ground control console, when that familiar outfit suddenly flashed into his vision, his piercing gaze instantly narrowed.
At age 17, he had joined the military as an officer, and in the seven years since, he had participated in countless battles, every minute movement meticulously considered and designed. So he had always been undefeated.
But at this moment, he moved.
Without a single shred of thought, he leaped down from the console, unleashing the top-tier Alpha energy that would be impossible to display in regular training, purely driven by instinct.
This violated the logic of his position as a top general, top warrior, top Alpha.
But he did not regret it.
Like a cheetah, he crouched and sprang twice, catching that frail body as it was swept downstream. Kneeling on the bank, Wen Su examined the Omega in his arms –
The Omega had likely been battered by the rushing water and passed out again, not from choking this time, no need for artificial respiration.
The Omega’s suit jacket had been washed away, the white shirt also in tatters.
Pale face and neck with scrapes and bruises, his body likely similarly injured, needing urgent treatment.
Suddenly, the Omega stirred awake, slowly opening his eyes, their gaze meeting, and his eyes instantly reddened.
“…General Wen Su? Please don’t make me leave, I, I…”
Sadly, he lost consciousness again.
Having suffered such great harm, yet without complaint, without retreat, relying only on willpower to briefly regain consciousness, and only to beg to be allowed to stay.
Wen Su lowered his gaze, seeing on the Omega’s crumpled white shirt, over the left breast, a rose embroidered in silver thread.
Not part of the shirt, but hand-stitched.
His heart inexplicably trembled.
A flock of birds startled into flight, the deafening roar of the waterfall nearby, and Wen Su, to his unprecedented awareness, realized he was feeling “being liked.”
He now knew what the Omega had been about to say.
