Vicious Cannon Fodder, But a Squeamish Heartthrob chapter 1

Chapter 1: Transmigrated as the Vicious Cannon Fodder

【You are a piece of cannon fodder.】

“I’m cannon fodder?”

The young man sitting on the small bed was dazed and listless as he tried to organize his chaotic thoughts.

Yu Deng had already died in his previous world. He had died of illness.

He had lived in the interstellar era and had been sickly since childhood, spending his days accompanied only by an electronic butler. Although he had been cared for meticulously, his body remained too weak, and he passed away shortly after reaching adulthood.

System 107 then brought him to this world.

The original owner of this body was also named Yu Deng. However, after his consciousness “awakened,” he didn’t want to be cannon fodder anymore and had fled the narrative.

The System’s soft, mushy voice rang out again.

【After the mission is complete, not only will you get to keep this body, but I can also give you a very generous bonus!】

【How about it? Are you interested?】

Yu Deng’s eyes practically turned into hearts.

His mission was to follow the original plot and act as a qualified piece of cannon fodder.

In this world, he was the male lead’s boyfriend before the male lead rose to power—the person who brought the male lead out of the village.

However, he was by no means a good person.

The reason he brought the male lead out was so that the man could support him through university. Afterward, using their relationship as a tool, he would use every trick in the book to squeeze the male lead dry, squandering his hard-earned money to pretend to be wealthy at school. Eventually, he would meet a second-generation rich kid and kick the male lead to the curb.

But it was only after dumping him that he would discover the male lead’s business had already grown massive. Furthermore, the male lead was actually a long-lost young master from a wealthy family.

In the end, because the original Yu Deng couldn’t afford his tuition, he was forced to drop out. Having been raised with expensive tastes by the male lead, his expenses far exceeded his income, and he eventually fell into a life of debauchery.

“There’s quite a lot of plot for this cannon fodder.”

107, however, was full of confidence: 【We can work hard to push the plot forward and stimulate his growth. We might even finish the mission in less than two years!】

Broadly speaking, Yu Deng was a hypocritical vampire.

But, a boyfriend…

“Are there… those kinds of scenes?”

【Which kind? Oh~, do you mean bed scenes?】

The mechanical system voice issued a warning, and the “inharmonious” forbidden words were “beeped” out.

107 felt a bit guilty: 【Maybe? But hey, just close your eyes and stick your butt out, and it’ll be over before you know it, hehe~】

Yu Deng: “…”

After accepting the mission, Yu Deng assessed his environment.

It was terrible.

It was sweltering and pitch black. The room was tiny, and the bed he was sitting on was a double-decker iron frame. A wooden desk was squeezed against the wall in the narrow aisle.

Yu Deng recalled the timeline and realized this was the point after he had finished high school. His family had tried to force him to work in a factory, so he had run to the city’s construction site to find the male lead.

The door was pushed open, and a sliver of light filtered into the room, illuminating the dust particles dancing in the air.

A silhouetted figure walked in, nearly occupying the entirety of the cramped room.

Just from the height and the blurred outline of his features, Yu Deng recognized him. This was the male lead, Zhou Yuejun.

Zhou Yuejun carried a rice bowl in each hand. After placing them on the small table, he tugged the light cord, brightening the room significantly. He then used his foot to hook a low stool out from under the bed.

“Eat.”

He didn’t say much. His voice was deep and husky—the voice of an honest man who kept his head down and worked hard.

Yu Deng glanced sideways at Zhou Yuejun. He had a rugged appearance with thick, dark sword-like brows and eyes as sharp as blades. When his face was solemn, he looked a bit fierce.

He was wearing a sleeveless vest, revealing two tanned arms. They were thick and powerful, with bulging muscles—clearly the result of long-term physical labor.

Zhou Yuejun sat on the small stool with his back against the wall. Holding his rice, he picked out the two thin slices of meat—the only meat in his bowl—and placed them into Yu Deng’s bowl.

“Eat quickly. I’ll take you to bathe after you finish.”

“Oh.” Yu Deng retracted his gaze and picked up the bowl of rice with the meat on top.

He had thought his meal would be just like Zhou Yuejun’s—light on oil and so bland it would kill one’s appetite. But after poking around with his chopsticks, he realized that beneath the plain white rice lay a hidden layer of braised pork.

It probably wasn’t from the construction site canteen; Zhou Yuejun must have bought it at a restaurant.

Yu Deng had originally intended to use the food as an excuse to throw a tantrum, but now he had to find another reason.

He took a couple of bites, his eyes darting around as an idea came to him.

“This place is so rundown. Do you really want me to live here?”

To stay in character, Yu Deng sounded quite picky and disgusted. In the original plot, he was supposed to nag and pester Zhou Yuejun into renting an apartment for them and feeding him oily meat dishes.

Hearing this, the man looked up. His dark, deep eyes were filled with the boy’s beautiful face.

The boy’s skin was delicate and snow-white, almost translucent in the light. His slightly pouted lips were plump and red, and the tip of his small nose was tinged with pink. He was truly exquisite and fair.

If it weren’t for the faded old clothes he was wearing, Yu Deng would look more like a precious treasure pampered by a wealthy family.

His bright, round eyes were staring at Zhou Yuejun, his brow furrowed in displeasure.

The dry heat of midsummer burned in Zhou Yuejun’s heart, but he always felt that Yu Deng’s body was clean and refreshing. He wanted to lean in and catch his scent.

Moreover, the dense, subtle fragrance coming from the boy made his heart itch.

Seeing that Zhou Yuejun wasn’t speaking, Yu Deng slammed his bowl onto the table, dropped his chopsticks, and began to make a scene.

“It’s so noisy here, and there’s so much dust. If I breathe it into my lungs, I’ll get sick.”

“I came here to be with you, so I won’t be going back for summer vacation. It’s so inconvenient to live here.”

After speaking, Yu Deng puffed out his cheeks and gave Zhou Yuejun a shallow glare.

In his heart, however, he was thinking: How am I so smart? I’m so good at bullying the male lead.

Zhou Yuejun swallowed his saliva and averted his naked gaze: “I’ll take half a day off tomorrow to find a place to rent nearby. Alright, eat your food. You’ve been on the bus for so long, aren’t you hungry?”

There were many people at the construction site, and Yu Deng was delicate; he would get bruised or bumped if one wasn’t careful. There were also several workers who were foul-mouthed and vulgar. He didn’t feel safe leaving Yu Deng at the site.

Besides, Yu Deng was right. They were dating; it was indeed inconvenient to live here.

Although the braised pork was fatty but not greasy, Yu Deng didn’t like eating fat. He took a tiny bite of the lean part and then shoveled in a large mouthful of rice.

Zhou Yuejun said helplessly, “If you don’t want the fat, just eat the lean meat. Eat all the lean parts.”

He was so thin. The only places with any meat on his body, besides his cheeks, were his buttocks. And yet, he was a picky eater.

Yu Deng had a small appetite. After eating half a bowl, he let out a small burp. To avoid being wasteful, he placed the bowl in front of Zhou Yuejun.

“You eat it. I left it for you on purpose. Look at all that meat.”

“You should eat more grease so you’ll have the strength to work.”

His university tuition and living expenses were still waiting for Zhou Yuejun to provide them.

Yu Deng smiled brilliantly. When he grinned, his little canine teeth peeked out, and his eyes curved into crescents, radiating light.

The leftover pieces of fat had mostly been poked by Yu Deng’s chopsticks. There were a few pieces he couldn’t quite pick up, so he had used his mouth to bite them.

Zhou Yuejun didn’t mind this at all and quickly finished Yu Deng’s leftovers.

“Let’s go. Time to wash up.”

Yu Deng clutched his clothes and followed behind Zhou Yuejun like a little tail, kicking pebbles along the way, unable to stay still for a second.

On the way, Zhou Yuejun asked, “When can you check your grades?”

Yu Deng didn’t notice Zhou Yuejun had stopped and bumped his forehead right into Zhou Yuejun’s back, which was as hard as an iron plate.

“Ah—”

After a short cry of pain, the boy covered his head and grumbled a complaint: “Why didn’t you watch where you were going? You’re so hard, just like a rock. You hurt me!”
