Chapter 103: I Will Stay With Brother

Two days after the field trip.

Gu Huaiye stood in the kitchen, flipping through a recipe book while seasoning the soup boiling in the pot.

Xie Miaohan hovered at the kitchen door for a long time, both hands behind his back as if hiding something.

After tasting the soup with a ladle and looking satisfied, Gu Huaiye turned around and finally noticed Xie Miaohan.

“Are you hungry?” Gu Huaiye turned off the stove and carried the soup out. “You eat first, don’t wait for Brother. I still have one more dish to stir-fry.”

Xie Miaohan shook his head. “I’m not hungry yet. I want to wait to eat with Brother.”

Gu Huaiye’s eyes curved, and a smile floated on his lips.

“Then go wait in the living room. The kitchen is full of oil smoke; breathing too much of it isn’t good for your body.”

As he said this, Gu Huaiye had a momentary trance.

He remembered the Xie Miaohan of the previous two lives.

Xie Miaohan never let him into the kitchen and would shut the door tight.

He claimed he would get angry if he smelled oil smoke, but Gu Huaiye had never actually fought with Xie Miaohan over such a thing.

He looked up at Gu Huaiye and continued, “Brother, keep it safe, okay?”

“Okay,” Gu Huaiye said. “I’ll find time to buy a frame for it. Ask Ms. Duan tomorrow how much it cost; we can’t just take people’s printed photos for free.”

“I know, Brother.”

“Go wash your hands.”

“Okay.”

Gu Huaiye rarely dressed up, but today he wore a newly bought outfit in warm tones, which made him look even more elegant and gentle.

“Miaomiao, I have to go out for a bit. I won’t be back to cook lunch. There’s sushi I made for you in the fridge; just eat it directly, no need to heat it up.”

Xie Miaohan was lying on the table doing homework. Hearing Gu Huaiye’s words, he immediately put down his pen and stared nervously at Gu Huaiye.

“Brother, where are you going?”

“To see someone important.”

“I want to go too.” Xie Miaohan climbed down from the chair and grabbed Gu Huaiye’s hand. “Brother, don’t leave me at home. I’m scared alone.”

Gu Huaiye laughed. “It’s broad daylight, what is there to be scared of?”

“I’m just scared.” Xie Miaohan held the other’s hand tightly, as if afraid Gu Huaiye would shake him off. “Let me go, please? I promise not to cause trouble for Brother.”

Gu Huaiye hesitated for a long while but eventually softened his heart.

“You’re not allowed to do this next time.”

Xie Miaohan nodded happily.

Next time, I will still cling to Brother.

Gu Huaiye took Xie Miaohan in a taxi to the area where the wealthy gathered in District A.

After getting out of the car, Xie Miaohan looked at the rows of prosperous, beautiful villas, his eyes widening slightly.

“We’re not going in.”

Xie Miaohan thought it was strange but didn’t ask further, accompanying Gu Huaiye quietly.

He didn’t know how much time passed before the iron gate suddenly opened.

Gu Huaiye’s breathing stuttered, and he couldn’t help squeezing Xie Miaohan’s hand.

The next second, two children ran out from inside, holding toy guns, laughing as they pointed them at each other.

“Pew pew pew!”

One of the boys clutched his chest, feigning pain as he half-knelt on the ground.

“Brother Gu, I’m dead.”

“You have to lie on the ground,” Little Gu Huaiye said triumphantly.

Chen Zirui looked reluctant. “The ground is dirty. My dad will beat me to death.”

Little Gu Huaiye frowned, but quickly relaxed.

“Fine. Do you surrender or not?”

“I surrender, I surrender!” Chen Zirui put down the gun and raised both arms. “Today’s pudding goes to Brother Gu.”

Little Gu Huaiye happily made a “peace sign.”

At this moment, a snot-nosed Chen Xialin also ran out of the villa, looking at the two with a mournful face.

“You guys are so mean. You snuck out to play while I was in the toilet and didn’t take me with you.”

Seeing that the stranger ignored him, Little Gu Huaiye raised his toy gun, pressed it several times at Gu Huaiye, and made “pew pew” sounds with his mouth.
