The next day, Gu Huaiye got up before dawn.

He tiptoed to the kitchen, prepared a simple breakfast, and placed it on the dining table.

Gu Huaiye looked up and scanned his surroundings. Looking at this cozy little home, his eyes revealed his reluctance to part.

In the whole house, only his room was particularly cold and empty.

His personal belongings had been secretly cleared out by him during the day, as if he had never been there.

Even the only photo of him and Xie Miaohan had been disposed of by Gu Huaiye.

He didn’t want Xie Miaohan to be unable to forget him.

It would be best if he even forgot what he looked like, to avoid running into the Gu Huaiye of this world and causing unnecessary trouble.

Gu Huaiye stripped the quilt from the bed, threw it into the washing machine, and pressed the start button.

Seeing that everything was mostly done, he picked up the luggage he had prepared long ago. Inside, there was only one change of clothes; it was as light as could be.

Gu Huaiye walked to the door, suddenly remembered something, and turned back to the room. He took the gold bracelet off his wrist and placed it on the table.

“Now there shouldn’t be anything left,” Gu Huaiye whispered.

He picked up the luggage again, walked to the door, and gripped the handle.

“Brother, where are you going?”

Gu Huaiye’s heart trembled, and he didn’t dare look back.

How did he come out? He had clearly put sleeping pills in the dinner; he shouldn’t have woken up this early.

“Brother, are you in such a rush to leave?” Xie Miaohan’s voice carried disappointment and sadness. “If I hadn’t made myself throw up, I wouldn’t have known you could be this cruel.”

Gu Huaiye whipped his head around. “How did you know I put sleeping pills in it?”

“You were too careless; I saw you.” Xie Miaohan’s face was a bit pale, perhaps due to the induced vomiting. “You wouldn’t kill me, and you wouldn’t drug me to sleep with me, so I could only guess you used sleeping pills.”

Xie Miaohan would rather it be the former two options. Even dying at the other’s hands would be better than being abandoned again and again.

“I…” Gu Huaiye’s expression was panicked, his voice trembling. “I was just afraid you’d be sad and couldn’t bear to see me go abroad to work again, so I gave you some sleeping pills.”

“If you talked to me properly, why wouldn’t I let you leave?” Xie Miaohan looked at Gu Huaiye’s wrist. Seeing the bracelet was gone, he curled his lips into a smirk. “Unless you have a guilty conscience and are afraid I’ll find out you don’t plan to come back at all.”

“I don’t.”

“You still want to lie to me?” Xie Miaohan’s eyes gradually reddened. “Do you think I’m still a child? That you can trick me with just a few random words?”

“Miaomiao…”

“Don’t call me that!” Xie Miaohan said painfully. “You want to coax me again, right? Once I let my guard down, you’ll leave without mercy.”

“I really am just going out to work.”

Xie Miaohan took a deep breath. “Why did you take off the bracelet?”

Gu Huaiye paused. He thought Xie Miaohan’s observational skills were truly too sharp. If he had known, he shouldn’t have come back to District A with Xie Miaohan.

No, he should have ended himself back at the camp.

There were so many corpses of fallen comrades there; disposing of his own along with them shouldn’t have been too much trouble.

“Why aren’t you answering?” Xie Miaohan mocked himself. “You can’t find an excuse, right?”

“I was just keeping it for you. I was afraid I’d lose it, so I left it here for now.”

Seeing Gu Huaiye still lying to him, anger surged in Xie Miaohan’s heart. He walked forward and wrapped his arms around the other’s waist.

“Brother, I originally planned to wait until graduation to do this, but I can’t wait anymore. I’m sorry.”
