Chapter 138: He Caught Up with the Silhouette
By late that night, Xie Miaohan’s fever finally broke, though he hadn’t yet woken up.
“Young Master, we’ll head back now,” Lu Zishi said, looking at the person on the bed with an expression that suggested he wanted to say something but stopped.
Gu Huaiye understood the look on his face and said calmly, “He is my boyfriend. As for my engagement with the Chen family, once I’m done here, I will personally go to cancel it.”
Lu Zishi realized he had overstepped and quickly waved his hands at Gu Huaiye.
“Young Master, you don’t need to explain to me. As long as you are safe, I can leave with peace of mind.”
This was an SSS-level Alpha. Even if his body was weak, the pheromones he released were enough to suppress the Young Master.
“He won’t hurt me. You don’t need to worry too much.”
Gu Huaiye suddenly thought of his father. Before officially canceling the engagement, he didn’t want to drag Xie Miaohan into it, lest his father form a bad impression of him.
“Don’t tell my father about what happened today.”
“I understand.” Lu Zishi bowed his head. “Then we will head back. Contact me if you need anything.”
“Okay, thank you for your hard work.”
After the two left, Gu Huaiye got into bed, resting his face on Xie Miaohan’s shoulder, his arms tightly wrapping around the other man’s waist.
He intended to nap for a bit, but the moment he closed his eyes, he slept straight through until dawn.
When he opened his eyes, he met Xie Miaohan’s gaze.
Gu Huaiye froze for a second, then remembered he had been reborn and had successfully saved Xie Miaohan. He immediately hugged him, pressing his face against his chest to feel the strong heartbeat.
Xie Miaohan’s heart trembled. His hands hovered awkwardly, unsure of where to place them.
“It’s so good. I can hold you again,” Gu Huaiye sighed happily, then added, “Miaomiao, you have to live well from now on. There are many people who love you, so don’t think about leaving anymore.”
After a long while, Xie Miaohan nodded.
“Okay.”
Gu Huaiye lifted his face and kissed Xie Miaohan’s lips.
“A reward for you,” Gu Huaiye laughed.
Xie Miaohan swallowed, a dark look passing through his eyes. After hesitating for a long time, he suppressed his desire. He didn’t want to appear too aggressive, fearing it would scare Gu Huaiye.
“Let’s go back to school,” Xie Miaohan said. “I haven’t asked my counselor for leave yet.”
“Okay.”
Gu Huaiye thought of something, frowned, and deliberately used a jealous tone. “Go get your bracelet back. How could you just casually give it to someone else?”
A look of surprise flashed across Xie Miaohan’s eyes.
“You knew I gave it to the counselor?”
“You…” Gu Huaiye paused, searching for a phrasing that felt better. “After you left, Chen Zirui went to the school to ask about your things. He found out for me.”
“Then you…” Xie Miaohan pursed his lips, not daring to finish the sentence.
He wanted to know if Gu Huaiye had married Chen Xialin after he died. Whether he had or hadn’t, the thought made his heart ache.
“What do you want to ask?”
Xie Miaohan shook his head. “Nothing. Let’s get up and wash.”
Once they were ready, Gu Huaiye said to Xie Miaohan, “Actually, I never melted down your bracelet. I only said that to force you to leave.”
After saying this, Gu Huaiye felt a bit embarrassed and stepped out of the hotel room first.
Xie Miaohan watched his back and couldn’t help but smile.
Walking out of the room, he thought it would take a long time to catch up to Gu Huaiye. But to his surprise, Gu Huaiye had already slowed his pace and raised his hand, seemingly waiting for him to hold it.
Xie Miaohan’s breathing slowed. He took Gu Huaiye’s hand.
His Gu Huaiye was finally willing to slow his pace and wait for him. What was left for him was no longer just a cold, distant silhouette.
After arriving at school, Gu Huaiye and Xie Miaohan went their separate ways.
They had only been apart for five minutes when Xie Miaohan sent him a message.
[Will you still come to find me?]
Gu Huaiye curled his lips in a helpless smile and replied immediately.
[Stop overthinking. Once I finish the paperwork, I’ll come find you for dinner. Go to class properly. Remember to take your cold medicine. The AC in the classroom is cold, so keep an extra jacket.]
Xie Miaohan replied very quickly.
[Okay, I’ll wait for you.]
Gu Huaiye looked at the message he sent, suddenly remembering the Xie Miaohan he had ‘kept’ before.
He sighed in his heart.
That memory wasn’t beautiful. He had always abandoned him. He had even caused Xie Miaohan to feel guilty about his death, to the point of harming his own body.
He hoped Xie Miaohan would never have those memories.
Chen Zirui, hearing news of him from somewhere, intercepted him on the road.
“Brother Gu, you need to explain this to me properly. Yesterday, did you really…”
Gu Huaiye suddenly stepped forward and hugged him. Chen Zirui’s voice cut off abruptly.
Chen Zirui didn’t know if he should hug back, his arms remaining stiff.
“You…” Chen Zirui started to speak, then realized Gu Huaiye seemed to be crying.
“Who bullied you?!” Chen Zirui looked panicked. “Brother Gu, don’t be afraid. I’ll get the boys to beat him up!”
Hearing his good brother’s familiar words, the tears in Gu Huaiye’s eyes couldn’t stop falling.
Chen Zirui didn’t know what had happened, so he could only clumsily pat him on the back. Seeing curious glances from passersby, Chen Zirui glared back fiercely.
“What are you looking at? Never seen a hug before?”
Gu Huaiye let out a laugh and released Chen Zirui.
He raised his hand to stroke Chen Zirui’s head, saying with heartache, “It must have hurt a lot back then. Don’t be afraid. This time, I will protect you.”
He would also help set up Chen Zirui and Xiang Wanxing. He knew his own abilities were limited; only Xiang Wanxing’s appearance could teach the Chen family a lesson on Chen Zirui’s behalf.
“Brother Gu, don’t scare me. What is wrong with you?”
Gu Huaiye smiled and shook his head. “I’m fine.”
Chen Zirui stared at Gu Huaiye suspiciously, then blurted out something brainless.
“Brother Gu, you don’t like me, do you?” Chen Zirui looked conflicted. “It’s not that we can’t, it’s just that you have to give me time to accept it. And I have to convince my brother. Sigh, if he finds out, he’ll probably beat me to death…”
Gu Huaiye couldn’t listen anymore and couldn’t resist kicking Chen Zirui.
“Dream on.”
Seeing Gu Huaiye return to normal, Chen Zirui finally smiled.
“That’s my Brother Gu.”
Gu Huaiye rolled his eyes at him.
“By the way, Brother Gu, have you applied for housing yet?” Chen Zirui draped his arm over Gu Huaiye’s shoulder. “I haven’t either. The double rooms are probably all gone. But since you have money, maybe we can live together.”
“I plan to rent a place outside.”
Chen Zirui paused. “There aren’t any houses nearby.”
“Lu Zishi will be responsible for pick-up and drop-off.”
“Why the sudden desire to rent?”
Gu Huaiye was silent for a moment, then looked at Chen Zirui with a serious expression.
“I’m going to your house this weekend. I want to cancel the engagement with your brother.”
