Chapter 144: Being Rewarded
Xie Miaohan felt much more at ease this time. After dinner, he finished washing up early and got into bed.
But he wasn’t sleepy at all, constantly glancing at the time on his phone.
Nine o’clock… ten o’clock… eleven-thirty.
Xie Miaohan grew increasingly anxious, his mind starting to run wild.
He and Gu Huaiye hadn’t completed the marking, so his pheromones couldn’t stay on Gu Huaiye to deter those who intended to get close to him.
He knew that rich young masters liked to order people to accompany them for drinks; he had approached Gu Huaiye in that exact way before.
It wasn’t that Xie Miaohan didn’t trust Gu Huaiye; he just knew that Omega pheromones were too tempting, and he feared Gu Huaiye wouldn’t be able to resist.
If he had known, he would have gone with him.
But he was worried that if he clung to Gu Huaiye too much, it would annoy him.
He had been reborn so many times. Now that the situation had finally improved, he didn’t want to mess things up again.
Xie Miaohan moved his phone further away, forcing himself not to look at it.
He didn’t know how much time had passed when he finally heard the sound of the door opening.
Xie Miaohan sat up from the bed almost the instant the door opened.
Gu Huaiye was stunned. “You’re not asleep yet?”
He had actually arrived downstairs at the hotel by eleven-thirty. However, the smell of smoke and alcohol on him was too strong, and he didn’t want to irritate Xie Miaohan.
So he stood at the hotel entrance in the cold wind, waiting for the smell to dissipate a bit before coming up.
“Mn, I have a bit of insomnia.” Xie Miaohan’s voice sounded very calm. “How much did you drink today? Do you feel sick? Do you want me to prepare something to sober you up?”
“No need.” Seeing that he was awake, Gu Huaiye turned on the lights and went to sit on the sofa. “I didn’t drink too much. I was afraid I’d get dead drunk in the bar and wouldn’t make it back here, so I was deliberately controlling it.”
Xie Miaohan suddenly got out of bed, walked over to Gu Huaiye, and knelt down to help him change his shoes.
“Hey, no need.” Gu Huaiye quickly stopped him. “It’s dirty.”
“I’ll just wash my hands later.”
Xie Miaohan insisted on helping him change his shoes. Gu Huaiye couldn’t out-stubborn him, so he had to let go.
“Why the sudden insomnia?” Gu Huaiye brought up the other topic. “I noticed you didn’t sleep much last night either.”
“Maybe I slept little before, so I got kind of used to it.”
Gu Huaiye looked disapproving. “That won’t do. It’s bad for your health. Once we move in together, you have to adjust back.”
Xie Miaohan smiled. “Okay.”
After changing the shoes, Xie Miaohan didn’t stand up. He maintained his kneeling posture.
He pressed his face against Gu Huaiye’s thigh, staring at him with a seductive gaze.
Xie Miaohan’s face was as beautiful as a dangerous siren, his pale pink lips slightly parted, luring Gu Huaiye to sink into depravity.
Gu Huaiye swallowed, his voice hoarse. “I smell of smoke and alcohol. It’s not pleasant. Another day.”
“It doesn’t matter. It’s okay to get me dirty.”
The sudden suggestive words almost made Gu Huaiye lose control.
“Miaomiao, behave.” Gu Huaiye stroked the side of Xie Miaohan’s face. “This isn’t good. Let’s do it tomorrow.”
A look of disappointment flashed through Xie Miaohan’s eyes, but it vanished quickly, and he nodded obediently.
“Okay.”
He stood up and pulled on Gu Huaiye’s arm.
“Go shower quickly. It’s getting late.”
Gu Huaiye agreed, leaned in to kiss Xie Miaohan’s cheek, and walked straight to the bathroom.
Xie Miaohan gently touched the spot where Gu Huaiye had kissed him, revealing a smile of morbid obsession.
I was rewarded.
The house Gu Huaiye asked Lu Zishi to find had been secured, and the contract signed.
When the weekend arrived, Gu Huaiye and Xie Miaohan moved in and cleaned the place together.
After traveling to Xie Miaohan’s childhood, Gu Huaiye had lost his ‘Young Master’ habits and was very efficient at housework.
He finished wiping the cabinets, hammered his back, and looked at Xie Miaohan, who was mopping the floor.
“What do you want to eat tonight? Let’s cook ourselves.”
Xie Miaohan thought for a moment and smiled. “As long as Huaiye makes it, I want to eat it.”
Gu Huaiye rolled his eyes playfully. “That range is too broad; you’re really making it hard for me.”
Despite complaining, Gu Huaiye had already thought of a menu.
The two of them wouldn’t eat much, so he’d just stir-fry a few dishes.
“By the way, I parked a Mercedes here. The car keys are on the coffee table. If I’m not at home and you have an emergency, you can drive it out anytime.”
It was actually a disguised way of giving Xie Miaohan a car. He was afraid Xie Miaohan wouldn’t accept it, so he had to use such a lame excuse.
“Okay, I know.”
Whether it was because of his words just now or not, Father Gu suddenly called Gu Huaiye, demanding he return to the Gu home immediately.
Father Chen had somehow heard about Gu Huaiye staying in a hotel with a man and was currently making a scene at the Gu house, demanding an apology and compensation.
Gu Huaiye couldn’t bear to leave Father Gu to face it alone, so he briefly explained the situation to Xie Miaohan and hurriedly left their little home.
This departure lasted five days.
Gu Huaiye called Xie Miaohan every day to inform him of the situation at home, saying with a joyful tone, “I’ll be able to take you back to the Gu house to meet my dad very soon.”
Xie Miaohan would answer with a smile, “Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
On the evening of the fifth day, Gu Huaiye planned to surprise Xie Miaohan. Without saying a word, he secretly returned home.
He specifically bought a bouquet of roses on the way.
He had wanted to give wisteria, but many florists didn’t have it. Since he was in a rush to go back and see Xie Miaohan, he settled for roses.
They were all beautiful anyway; he thought Miaomiao would definitely like them.
As soon as he opened the door, the room was dim. Only the bathroom light was on.
Gu Huaiye assumed he was taking a shower and couldn’t help but chuckle, wanting to barge in and startle him.
But he never expected that the moment he opened the bathroom door, he would see Xie Miaohan kneeling on the floor, cutting his own arm with a razor blade.
“It is real, not a dream.” Xie Miaohan’s face was somewhat pale, muttering incessantly, “Why doesn’t it hurt… so strange…”
The roses in Gu Huaiye’s arms fell to the floor as he stared at Xie Miaohan with terrified eyes.
“Xie Miaohan, what are you doing?! Why are you hurting yourself?!”
Xie Miaohan’s body trembled, and he looked up to meet Gu Huaiye’s gaze.
The razor blade slipped from his hand, falling onto the floor stained with Xie Miaohan’s blood, making a cold sound.
“Huaiye… I…” Xie Miaohan hid his hands behind his back in a panic. “I’m sorry…”
Seeing Xie Miaohan hurting himself like this, Gu Huaiye felt both angry and heartbroken.
He really wanted to yell at Xie Miaohan, but he couldn’t bear to make him cry.
Gu Huaiye glanced down at the blood on the floor. The bright red color stung his eyes. Without a word, he turned and walked out of the bathroom.
“Huaiye, I was wrong, don’t go!”
Xie Miaohan panicked. He struggled to stand up, wanting to chase after him.
Even if it was a dream, it didn’t matter. Please, don’t leave him.
Gu Huaiye was rummaging through boxes to find gauze. He remembered preparing a first-aid kit when they moved.
“Huaiye, I’m sorry.”
Xie Miaohan hugged him from behind, his voice trembling violently.
“There won’t be a next time.”
Gu Huaiye finally found the gauze. Looking down at the arms wrapped around his waist, covered in cuts, his chest ached with anger.
“Let go of me first. I’ll simply bandage your wounds, then I have to take you to the hospital to get them treated properly.”
Xie Miaohan refused to let go, crying uncontrollably behind him.
Gu Huaiye realized something, and his tone softened.
“I’m not leaving, and I’m not angry. Miaomiao, let go first, okay?”
