Chapter 17: I Hate Him to Death
It wasn’t until dealing with the asset liquidation that Gu Huaiye realized just how severe the situation was.
Although most of the debts had been paid off, he hadn’t been able to keep the house or the cars. There was only a hundred thousand left in his bank card.
Gu Huaiye walked down the street, looking down at the balance displayed on his phone, unable to hold back a bitter smile.
He had thought he could at least save the villa in the Yanyu District. He never expected that in the end, not only was his parents’ house gone, but there wasn’t much left of his savings either.
Father Gu’s hospital expenses were fifty to sixty thousand a day; right now, that was an astronomical sum to him.
The money he had left would sustain them for two days at most.
Gu Huaiye returned to the apartment one more time and went into the walk-in closet to pack.
He had been back three or four times this week already. The jewelry and watches were mostly sold off, all used to offset the debt. There was barely anything left.
Gu Huaiye sat in front of the cabinet, staring at the few pieces of inexpensive jewelry remaining in the drawer, pinching the bridge of his nose as a headache set in.
Suddenly, he remembered the wedding ring.
Although it was a men’s style, it was encrusted with rare diamonds. If he sold it, it would probably fetch a good amount of money.
Gu Huaiye stood up hurriedly.
He seemed to recall placing it on the bench.

“We are adults; we can control that much emotion.”
Gu Huaiye mocked himself, “I can’t do what you do—finding me disgusting yet staying married to me for ten years, and even wanting to continue now.”
“I’ll give you another week,” Xie Miaohan said. “If you still insist on divorce after a week, I will go with you to register the paperwork.”
Gu Huaiye gave a perfunctory “En” and dragged his luggage out.
He didn’t understand the point of Xie Miaohan stalling.
Even given a week, he would still decide to divorce.
Since the result would be the same, why keep dragging this out?
The hotels Gu Huaiye stayed in became progressively worse, until finally, he checked directly into a guesthouse that cost a hundred kuai a night.
Lying on the cramped single bed, staring at the ceiling that was half-cracked, his heart felt incredibly sour.

Strange noises kept coming from next door. The noise was so loud Gu Huaiye couldn’t sleep, so he simply sat up to smoke and think about his next move.
He suddenly thought of Wen Xuyue.
Someone else who had been pitted by Xie Miaohan.
He couldn’t completely trust Xie Miaohan’s side of the story. After some thought, he decided to meet Wen Xuyue.

Chen Zirui was indeed willing to help, but he asked with some confusion, “What do you want to see him for?”
“He embezzled a sum of funds from my company. As the victim, I need to ask him the reason for doing so.”
Chen Zirui could understand Gu Huaiye’s reasoning.
He contacted a law firm and found a defense lawyer. Gu Huaiye pretended to be the lawyer’s assistant and they sneaked in together.
The method worked well; they were arranged to meet Wen Xuyue alone in a small room.
Presumably, life in the detention center wasn’t going well; Wen Xuyue had lost so much weight he looked skeletal, his complexion sallow and his lips pale.
At first glance, Gu Huaiye couldn’t connect him at all to the delicate and cute Omega from before.
When Wen Xuyue saw Gu Huaiye’s face, a light instantly floated into his dim eyes.
He hurried over. “Gu Xuezhang, are you here to help me?”
The lawyer extended an arm to block him. “Mr. Wen, please sit on the opposite side.”
Wen Xuyue nodded and sat opposite Gu Huaiye, nervously adjusting his clothes.
But with his current image, no matter how much he adjusted, he wouldn’t look much better.
“Gu Xuezhang, you have to believe me. I didn’t intend to cook the books. I took that money out to save you.”
Gu Huaiye didn’t care about these words. He got straight to the point, “Are you and Xie Miaohan lovers or not?”
Hearing Xie Miaohan’s name was like swallowing a fly for Wen Xuyue; his expression became extremely ugly.
“I hate him to death, how could I be his lover?”
He lifted his eyes, gazing affectionately at Gu Huaiye.
“Gu Xuezhang, the one I’ve always liked is you. From university until now, it has never changed.”
Gu Huaiye’s pupils constricted, revealing a look of shock.
