Chapter 173: Our Past Is Past

When Gu Huaiye got out of bed the next day, his whole body ached so much he felt like he was falling apart.

He turned over, intending to complain to Xie Miaohan, only to find the space beside him empty. Xie Miaohan had risen early and wasn’t in their bedroom.

Gu Huaiye lay there for a while, then got up to wash quickly. After leaving the room, he walked through the entire villa but didn’t see Xie Miaohan anywhere.

He stopped a servant who was working nearby. “Have you seen Miaomiao?”

The servant replied respectfully, “The Master took Mr. Xie out at eight o’clock this morning.”

Gu Huaiye was stunned. Where did Dad take Xie Miaohan to play? Why didn’t they take him along?

He suddenly felt abandoned at home.

Gu Huaiye’s phone was in his room, so he had to go back to retrieve it.

Opening the screen, he saw a message from Father Gu.

[I took Xiaohan out for a bit. Hurry to the jewelry store I sent you and pick out the rings. Don’t let Xiaohan find out.]

So that was it.

Gu Huaiye smiled and replied to Father Gu.

[Okay, thank you, Dad.]

Gu Huaiye didn’t waste any more time at home. He quickly changed out of his pajamas and called Lu Zishi to come pick him up at the Gu family villa.

The jewelry store wasn’t close to the villa district; it took over half an hour to arrive.

“Lu Zishi, I’ll probably be a while. Find a place to sit. I’ll call you when I’m done.”

“Understood, Young Master.”

The jewelry store was inside a mall. As Gu Huaiye passed a men’s clothing store, he suddenly remembered he hadn’t bought clothes for Xie Miaohan in a long time.

After hesitating for a moment, he walked into the store.

Xie Miaohan’s usual attire was very simple, and the colors were monotonous—mostly black, white, and gray.

Fortunately, Xie Miaohan’s features were superior; he could make even basic clothes look like haute couture from a runway show.

Gu Huaiye browsed around and finally bought a coat and a dark-colored tie for Xie Miaohan.

Leaving the clothing store, Gu Huaiye’s pace quickened involuntarily. He couldn’t wait to see Xie Miaohan try them on.

Father Gu had already called the jewelry store in advance. When Gu Huaiye entered, the staff led him to the VIP room and brought out numerous design drafts for him to choose from.

Gu Huaiye spent a long time choosing before finally settling on a pair of matching rings.

After giving instructions for the engraving, Gu Huaiye paid the deposit and walked out of the jewelry store.

He stood at the entrance, looking down at his phone to message Father Gu.

Halfway through typing, a familiar voice called out from behind him.

“Brother Gu!”

Gu Huaiye froze, looked toward the sound, and saw Chen Xialin’s face.

“What a coincidence!” Chen Xialin trotted up to him, glancing down at the shopping bags Gu Huaiye was holding. “Are you out buying clothes?”

Gu Huaiye pressed his lips together, thinking about how to speak to Chen Xialin.

They had been engaged once; how could he say it without hurting Chen Xialin?

But he didn’t want to hide it. He didn’t want to repeat the mistakes of his past lives by deliberately concealing Xie Miaohan’s existence.

Xie Miaohan was his lover; he should be known to everyone.

“Xialin, I…”

Chen Xialin suddenly interrupted Gu Huaiye. “Brother Gu, actually, I saw you an hour ago.”

“What?”

“I saw you before you entered this jewelry store,” Chen Xialin said. “I’ve been waiting outside for you to come out.”

“I went to buy wedding rings.” Since it had come to this, Gu Huaiye could only be straightforward. “I’m getting married very soon.”

“I heard my brother mention it. It’s a very beautiful Alpha, isn’t it? It’s him, right?”

Given Chen Zirui’s personality, he definitely didn’t say it on purpose. Chen Xialin likely discovered it himself and pestered Chen Zirui into explaining.

“Yes, it’s him.” Gu Huaiye admitted it directly.

He thought Chen Xialin would be unhappy, or call him a scumbag for marrying someone else so quickly.

But in the next second, Chen Xialin’s eyes curved into a smile. “Then he must treat Brother Gu very well to make Brother Gu like him so much.”

“Xialin, you are very good too. It’s my issue.”

Chen Xialin waved his hand, his expression relaxed. “Brother Gu, our matter is in the past. Actually, what you said when you came to my house to break off the engagement really woke me up. I should pursue other values. Brother Xiang also showed me that an Omega’s life has many possibilities.”

He hadn’t waited here to trouble Gu Huaiye.

Hearing Chen Xialin say this, Gu Huaiye felt the weight in his heart lift, and his furrowed brows relaxed.

“Of course,” Gu Huaiye smiled back. “You and Zirui should come together then; we’ll take lots of photos.”

“Okay!”

The two fell silent for a moment before Gu Huaiye brought up another topic. “How are things for you in the Chen family now? Are those illegitimate children bullying you?”

“It’s okay. I’m an Omega, so I’m not a threat to them.” Chen Xialin sighed, his tone worried. “I’m more worried about my brother. Brother Xiang is great, but the gap between our two families is too wide. I’m afraid my brother will be abandoned by him sooner or later.”

Chen Xialin paused, then looked up at Gu Huaiye.

“Brother Gu, I heard you plan to develop in District B.” Chen Xialin grabbed Gu Huaiye’s hand, pleading, “If one day he really gets abandoned, can you help me take care of my brother?”

“I will.” Gu Huaiye said. “Do you want to come to District B after you graduate?”

Chen Xialin shook his head. “No, I plan to stay with the Chen family for now.”

He and Gu Huaiye had a past engagement after all. If he went to District B and troubled him, it would definitely upset Gu Huaiye’s lover.

Better to avoid unnecessary trouble.

It was better to stay in the Chen family and guard the family assets for his brother.

Gu Huaiye didn’t press Chen Xialin further. The two chatted for a while longer before parting ways.

Back at the villa, Xie Miaohan was already waiting for him in the main hall.

Seeing him, Xie Miaohan immediately stood up and pulled him into an embrace.

“Huaiye, where did you go?” Xie Miaohan’s voice was filled with unease. “I waited for you for so long. I thought you left me behind and went to District B alone.”

Gu Huaiye sighed helplessly.

Xie Miaohan was calm and cold outside, but the moment it involved him, all logic vanished, and his mind was filled with the fear of him leaving.

Gu Huaiye patted Xie Miaohan’s back, coaxing him. “I went to buy clothes for you.”

Xie Miaohan froze, let go of him, and looked down at the bags Gu Huaiye was holding.

“Try them on for me to see, quickly!”

The anxiety in Xie Miaohan’s heart vanished, and the corners of his mouth curved up slightly. “Okay.”
