Chapter 179: Are You Jealous?
Chen Zirui ended up coming to their apartment.
Carrying bags big and small, he stood at the door, looking somewhat constrained.
Gu Huaiye carried one of his suitcases into the living room, turned around, and saw Chen Zirui still standing at the door.
“Why are you standing there like a post? Come in, hurry.”
Chen Zirui rubbed his palms together, craning his neck to look inside. “Where’s the sister-in-law?”
“He went out to meet Xiang Wanxing.”
Chen Zirui looked up and saw the photo of the couple on the cabinet, feeling an urge to retreat at the last minute.
“Brother Gu, maybe we should forget it.” Chen Zirui forced a smile, looking awkward. “I feel like I’m disturbing you guys. I’d better go back to District A.”
Gu Huaiye frowned, pulled him inside, and pressed him down onto the sofa.
“Hey, I haven’t changed my shoes yet.”
Chen Zirui struggled to get up but was pressed down again by Gu Huaiye.
“No need to change. I’m going to mop the floor tonight anyway; just wear them for now.”
“Sigh, I’m serious, Brother Gu. Am I disturbing you guys too much by being here?”
“What’s there to disturb? Just stay here with peace of mind.” Gu Huaiye put his hands on his hips, his tone firm. “We agreed you’d stay here. No backing out now.”
Chen Zirui scratched his head. “It’s not backing out; I’m just afraid sister-in-law will be unhappy.”
“I’ve already discussed it with him. He’s very in favor of you coming over. Besides, he’s often not at home during the day, and I don’t have any friends in District B. He was afraid I’d be lonely, so it’s good to have someone to keep me company.”
Hearing Gu Huaiye say this, Chen Zirui relaxed a bit.
Come to think of it, ever since Gu Huaiye fell in love, their relationship hadn’t been as intimate as before; they had to maintain a sense of distance at all times.
Sigh, just thinking about it was a bit sad.
Gu Huaiye checked his watch. “It’s about time to buy groceries. Miaomiao will be home in another hour. You rest here, or go to the room if you want—it’s already been tidied up. I’m going downstairs to buy food.”
Chen Zirui quickly stood up and took Gu Huaiye’s arm.
“Brother Gu, I’ll go with you.”
Gu Huaiye raised an eyebrow. “You’ve been in the car for so long; aren’t you tired?”
“Not tired.” Chen Zirui lifted his arm, showing off his muscles to Gu Huaiye. “I’m not like before. How could sitting in a car for a bit tire me out?”
Just like when he slept with Xiang Wanxing—the only one tired at the end was Xiang Wanxing.
Chen Zirui paused, his expression turning sour.
Why did he think of that guy again?
“As long as you’re not tired.” Gu Huaiye squeezed Chen Zirui’s arm. “Indeed much firmer. Then I’ll need you to help me carry things.”
“Sure, leave it to me.”
While selecting items in the supermarket, Gu Huaiye couldn’t help but continue the topic from their phone call yesterday.
“So, did you reject his proposal?”
Chen Zirui was pushing the shopping cart. Hearing Gu Huaiye’s words, his expression changed slightly.
“Not yet.”
Gu Huaiye lifted his eyelids to look at Chen Zirui, curiosity in his eyes.
Chen Zirui noticed his gaze, sighed, and spoke truthfully. “Actually, I’m quite tempted. After all, that’s the Xiang family. If I marry Xiang Wanxing, I basically won’t have to worry for the rest of my life. I can send Xialin abroad to pursue the life he wants. Plus, my dad wouldn’t dare to recklessly cultivate illegitimate children anymore. It would be doing right by my late mother…”
Gu Huaiye interrupted him. “Do you like him? If you don’t consider your complex family situation… in other words, if you didn’t lack money, would you still choose him?”
Chen Zirui opened his mouth but couldn’t quite answer.
Gu Huaiye withdrew his gaze and put the vegetables in his hand into the cart.
“If you really don’t like him, don’t force yourself,” Gu Huaiye said. “I can promise you, you can definitely live very well in District B. You don’t have to compromise and marry him.”
Chen Zirui pressed his lips together and said nothing more.
When the two returned home carrying bags full of groceries, they looked up and saw Xiang Wanxing sitting on the sofa.
Chen Zirui’s body went stiff instantly, standing motionless at the door.
Xiang Wanxing stared straight at Chen Zirui, smiling yet not smiling. “No wonder you didn’t let me pick you up. Turns out you escaped here.”
“What escape? I came here to stay normally,” Chen Zirui muttered softly.
Gu Huaiye looked at Xie Miaohan. Before he could speak, Xie Miaohan hurriedly explained.
“I tried very hard to chase him away, but he was too shameless. He actually released some pheromones to threaten me.”
Hearing this, Chen Zirui glared angrily at Xiang Wanxing.
“How can you just casually release pheromones? You are an Omega!”
Xiang Wanxing usually hated people calling him an Omega, but at this moment, he didn’t feel angry. His eyes softened slightly.
“Are you jealous?”
“Bullshit!” Chen Zirui retorted. “I can’t be bothered to be jealous of you.”
Xiang Wanxing shrugged. “Not honest at all.”
Chen Zirui: “……”
Unable to chase Xiang Wanxing away, Gu Huaiye had to agree to let him stay for dinner.
During dinner, Xiang Wanxing kept squeezing towards Chen Zirui. Under the table, he lifted his foot slightly, teasing Chen Zirui’s calf.
Chen Zirui’s face was red and hot. He glared desperately at Xiang Wanxing, telling him to restrain himself.
But Xiang Wanxing refused to take his foot back.
Chen Zirui couldn’t bear it anymore. He stood up abruptly and said angrily to Xiang Wanxing, “Come outside with me for a moment.”
Immediately after, he looked apologetically at Gu Huaiye.
“Brother Gu, I’m full. You guys take your time eating.”
After saying that, he grabbed Xiang Wanxing’s hand and walked out of the apartment.
An hour later, Chen Zirui returned to the apartment alone, his lips extremely swollen.
Gu Huaiye was wiping the table. Seeing Chen Zirui’s face, he immediately understood what happened.
“Brother Gu, sorry for troubling you today. Xiang Wanxing has promised me he won’t run over suddenly to disturb you again.”
Gu Huaiye nodded. “I understand. Go shower and rest first.”
“Okay.”
Chen Zirui smiled at Gu Huaiye and walked towards the guest room with a strange gait.
