Chapter 29: Can’t Wait for the Flowers to Bloom

After the funeral, Xie Miaohan buried Gu Huaiye’s ashes beneath the courtyard of the Gu family villa.

The next day, he bought young wisteria saplings, preparing to plant them in the soil that now held Gu Huaiye’s ashes.

The servants tried to help him, but Xie Miaohan refused them all.

He half-knelt on the cold ground, letting his expensive, pristine trousers get stained with dust and dirt. Without wearing any gloves or using a shovel, he mechanically dug into the soil with his fair, beautiful fingers.

His nails, usually trimmed clean and neat, were now stained with dark brown mud, and blood even began to ooze from a few of his fingers.

Xie Miaohan kept his head low. His slightly long bangs covered half his face, making it impossible to see the expression in his eyes; only his pale lips were visible.

When the saplings were finally mixed with Gu Huaiye’s ashes, a look of morbid satisfaction surfaced in Xie Miaohan’s eyes.

He curved his lips into a gentle smile. “This way, even if you find it disgusting, you have no choice but to endure my scent.”

After doing all this, Xie Miaohan lay down on his side, one hand gently stroking the slightly raised mound of earth. He closed his eyes, trying to imagine Gu Huaiye’s pheromones.

But sadly, he couldn’t feel anything.

He didn’t know if too much time had passed, or if he simply hated Gu Huaiye too much.

He actually couldn’t recall what Gu Huaiye’s pheromones smelled like.

Xie Miaohan curled his body up tight, assuming an extremely insecure and fragile posture.

The summer sunlight was blocked by a layer of clouds; it couldn’t shine into the courtyard of the Gu villa, nor could it shine into Xie Miaohan’s long-emptied heart.

Xie Miaohan seemed to regain his spirit, acting as if nothing had happened, going to the company on time every day.

“So, our President Xie used to be an Alpha?” a new Omega asked in surprise.

“The man has already passed away, so he counts as an ex-husband now, right? President Xie is so young; he’ll definitely find someone else.”

“Ah? Then how will he survive his susceptibility period…”

The voices came to an abrupt halt as the group nervously looked at Xie Miaohan, who had suddenly appeared.

Xie Miaohan didn’t even glance at them. He filled a disposable cup with coffee and left the break room.

The group looked at each other, still shaken.

“Will President Xie take his anger out on us?”

“Pro… probably not… A colleague went to his ex… his husband’s funeral and apparently heard President Xie say they were enemies.”

The new Omega patted his chest.

“That’s good then.”

They didn’t dare to gossip anymore, quickly grabbing their cups and leaving the place.

They spent a few days in anxiety, but Xie Miaohan never sought them out.

Just when they thought they could relax, they received termination notices at the end of the month. No one was spared.

Some time later, Xie Miaohan went to a nightclub to discuss business with a partnering CEO.

When he stepped out to smoke and get some air, he ran into the boy Gu Huaiye had brought home before.

The boy had long forgotten Xie Miaohan, but Xie Miaohan had carved his face into his memory and recognized him at a glance.

Xie Miaohan blocked the boy’s path. “I want to smell your pheromones.”

He wanted to know why Gu Huaiye was so fascinated by this boy’s pheromones.

Did they really smell better than his?

The boy was dumbfounded, thinking he had encountered a pervert.

“You’re an Omega?” the boy asked in surprise.

The boy’s expression was somewhere between laughing and crying. “We are both Omegas. Why do you want to smell my pheromones? You should be smelling an Alpha’s.”

Being rejected repeatedly, a trace of impatience flashed across Xie Miaohan’s brow.

“My husband likes your pheromones.”

This confused the boy completely. When did he get involved with a married man?

Unless…

The boy’s eyes lit up, and he finally recognized Xie Miaohan.

“I remember now! You’re Gu Shao‘s wife.”

The boy might not remember Xie Miaohan well, but his impression of Gu Huaiye was profound.

“Wait.” Xie Miaohan called out to the boy. “Was he… gentle with you?”

The boy was confused by this question. It took a long while before he realized something.

Oh my god, don’t tell me it was never explained clearly until now?

The boy picked at his fingers in conflict. Finally, unable to get past his conscience, he revealed everything about that day.

“I only had an employment relationship with Gu Shao. I pretended to be his lover, and he gave me a sum of money. After we went into the room, nothing happened. He forced me to scream just to make you jealous.”

The boy paused, then sighed. “Actually, Gu Shao liked you too. It’s just that you were too cold to him, so he wanted to use such an extreme method to get your attention.”

Xie Miaohan listened to his words quietly.

The boy thought that after he finished speaking, he would see an expression of regret or relief on Xie Miaohan’s face.

But sadly, there was nothing. He only nodded at him and said, “I see.”

The boy wanted to say more, but Xie Miaohan had already turned and left.

He didn’t know if it was his illusion, but he seemed to see Xie Miaohan’s figure stagger slightly.

That night, Xie Miaohan returned to the villa.

He went to the rooftop, mimicking Gu Huaiye’s posture from before he died, smoking while looking down.

The cigarette burned to the end, scalding his fingers. Xie Miaohan’s eyelashes trembled, and he crushed the butt out.

He curved his lips into a soft chuckle, tears floating in his eyes.

“I can’t wait for the flowers to bloom anymore.”

Xie Miaohan didn’t want to leave a single chance for survival. He fell facing the ground.

He smashed onto the soil where Gu Huaiye’s ashes were buried. Bright red blood seeped in, nourishing the ashes and the saplings, as if merging them into one.
