Chapter 41: How Do You Want to Repay?
Not long after Gu Huaiye arrived at the dormitory, Chen Zirui hurried back as well.
He immediately looked at Gu Huaiye’s bed. Seeing that it was still clean and tidy, he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Gu Huaiye was leaning against the window smoking.
Both of them loved smoking, so there was no rule against smoking in the dorm.
“Where did you go with Senior Xie?” Chen Zirui walked up to him, took the pack of cigarettes from the table, pulled one out, and held it in his mouth. “Where is he?”
Gu Huaiye looked at him. “Asking so much… did you want me to bring him back?”
“Of course not!” Chen Zirui’s eyes widened. “If you brought him back to the dorm to mess around, I would definitely cut ties with you. Don’t forget the engagement with my brother.”
In the bar earlier, the two didn’t do anything too excessive, so he hadn’t given much of a warning.
But seeing Gu Huaiye take the person out of the private box, Chen Zirui immediately couldn’t sit still.
He hadn’t forgotten that he was Chen Xialin’s brother. No matter how tight he was with Gu Huaiye, he couldn’t let Gu Huaiye fool around.
“I haven’t forgotten.” Gu Huaiye took a drag of his cigarette and said lightly, “Didn’t I not bring him back?”
“Then what exactly is going on with you two?” Chen Zirui couldn’t help gossiping. “The atmosphere between you guys is weird, like you’ve known each other for a long time.”
“What’s weird about it?”
Gu Huaiye stubbed out the cigarette, unwilling to mention Xie Miaohan anymore.
“Forget it. I can’t control what happens between you two anyway.” Chen Zirui still felt uneasy. His expression was rarely serious, and his tone emphasized gravely, “You and he are both Alphas. I admit he was very seductive in the bar, but his family background isn’t good, and he’s an Alpha.”
Chen Zirui paused, and in order to cut off Gu Huaiye’s thoughts about Xie Miaohan, he spoke harshly, “Those kinds of places aren’t actually very legitimate. As long as you pay enough, you can sleep with them. Although he is our senior and has helped me, I still want to tell you objectively… maybe he’s been dirty for a long time.”
He knew Gu Huaiye had a cleanliness obsession (mysophobia) and hoped this would persuade him.
But Gu Huaiye’s reaction was not what he expected.
Gu Huaiye’s eyes held a sharpness that made Chen Zirui feel extremely strange.
“He can’t decide his own circumstances. Is it wrong to just want to survive and live on?” Gu Huaiye laughed, then continued, “Besides, I’m not engaged to your brother yet, and we aren’t dating. The engagement can be canceled at any time, so you have no right to control who I’m with.”
Chen Zirui stared at Gu Huaiye in disbelief, unable to speak for a while.
Gu Huaiye calmed down, realizing his words were a bit excessive.
“Sorry, I’m not in a good mood today.” Gu Huaiye looked apologetic. “Let’s not mention Xie Miaohan in the future. I get a bit annoyed hearing about him.”
Chen Zirui nodded. “Alright.”
It was indeed him overthinking it. Gu Huaiye hadn’t shown any sign of wanting to be with Xie Miaohan.
His behavior in the bar was more like bullying Xie Miaohan.
“I apologize to you too.” Chen Zirui scratched his head, trying to break the awkward atmosphere, and gave a dry laugh. “Won’t mention this person again.”
Gu Huaiye kicked his leg, sneering, “Too polite. Doesn’t seem like you.”
Chen Zirui immediately forgot the unpleasantness just now and started horsing around with Gu Huaiye.
Xie Miaohan disappeared for another period of time.
After winter set in, Xie Miaohan somehow found Gu Huaiye’s WeChat and sent him friend requests three times in a row.
Gu Huaiye got annoyed rejecting them, so he simply accepted Xie Miaohan’s request.
He frowned and typed a long string of curse words, but suddenly a cute cat emoji popped up in the chat box. It was sent by Xie Miaohan.
Gu Huaiye paused, staring at the emoji, feeling a bit like calling the police.
This must be online fraud.
How could that blockhead Xie Miaohan send this kind of emoji?
He remembered in his previous life, when chatting with Xie Miaohan, it was mostly him sending several messages in a row before Xie Miaohan replied with one.
What was more infuriating was that they were all “En,” “Okay,” or “Busy.”
Perfunctory and cold. Emojis were nonexistent.
Gu Huaiye deleted the unsent text, preparing to block this scammer.
But the next second, Xie Miaohan sent another message.
Xie Miaohan: [Busy?]
Gu Huaiye: [No money.]
Xie Miaohan: [?]
Xie Miaohan: [I’m not here to borrow money from you this time. The two hundred thousand from last time was enough. I quit the part-time job and won’t go to the bar anymore.]
Knowing such specific details, it probably wasn’t online fraud.
Gu Huaiye: [Why add me? Where did you get my WeChat?]
Xie Miaohan: [I registered your check-in information. Your phone number was on it. I tried adding it, didn’t expect it to actually work.]
Gu Huaiye: “…”
Like a stalker.
Gu Huaiye: [If there’s nothing else, I’m deleting you.]
Just as this message was sent, Xie Miaohan replied immediately.
Seeming very anxious, he even made a typo.
Xie Miaohan: [Wiat, don’t delete me yet. Are you free to come out? I have something I want to say to you.]
Gu Huaiye: [Can’t say it on WeChat?]
Xie Miaohan: [No, I want to do it in person.]
Gu Huaiye: [Then don’t say it.]
He intended to harden his heart and delete Xie Miaohan, but Xie Miaohan sent another sticker.
It was a crying kitten.
Looking pitiful.
Gu Huaiye hesitated, but finally gave up on deleting him and replied.
Gu Huaiye: [Meet where?]
When Gu Huaiye arrived at the milk tea shop Xie Miaohan mentioned, Xie Miaohan was already sitting in the corner with two cups of milk tea on the table.
He walked over and sat opposite Xie Miaohan.
“This is ordered for you.” Xie Miaohan pointed to the milk tea in front of Gu Huaiye. “There are a lot of people here on weekends; usually, you have to wait at least an hour. Try it first. If you don’t like it, I’ll order you a new one.”
Gu Huaiye had no intention of drinking milk tea. He said “Thanks” but didn’t pick it up.
A look of gloom crossed Xie Miaohan’s eyes.
“What did you want to chat about?”
“Your two hundred thousand helped me a lot.” Xie Miaohan smiled gently. “I wanted to express my gratitude to you.”
Gu Huaiye raised an eyebrow, his expression full of indifference.
“Didn’t I tell you not to take it to heart? Two hundred thousand is nothing to me. Sometimes when I’m in a good mood, I give tips more than that. Just consider it charity.”
Gu Huaiye said this intentionally.
He wanted Xie Miaohan to understand that giving that money had no special meaning.
Xie Miaohan gave an “En” and fell into silence.
Gu Huaiye checked his watch. “If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.”
“Wait.”
Xie Miaohan suddenly leaned forward and grabbed his hand resting on the table.
His hand was covered by a layer of coldness. Gu Huaiye’s heart skipped a beat. He looked up and found that Xie Miaohan was dressed very thinly.
The sweater looked textureless, and the cuffs were even pilling.
Living this poorly?
Thinking about it carefully, he had fallen in love with Xie Miaohan at first sight in his previous life. After confirming his feelings, he constantly swiped his card to buy things for Xie Miaohan.
Perhaps it was under his pampering that he never saw such a terrible side of Xie Miaohan.
Gu Huaiye’s heart softened. He didn’t pull his hand back and stared at Xie Miaohan seriously.
“What else do you want to say?” His tone softened as well, not prickly like before.
“Maybe in your eyes, this money is nothing, but I want to pay it back to you.”
Gu Huaiye was stunned, asking with interest, “How do you want to repay?”
“I heard you’ve already started entering the company to learn. Can you arrange for me to go in? I don’t need a salary. My major should be helpful. Could you let me be your…”
Gu Huaiye abruptly pulled his hand back, cutting off Xie Miaohan’s words.
“So this was your plan?”
The scene of the Gu family’s bankruptcy surfaced in Gu Huaiye’s mind again, his body trembling uncontrollably.
“You really don’t give up.” Gu Huaiye looked disgusted. “You aren’t worthy of entering the Gu Group. We don’t need trash who sells their body in bars.”
People around them looked over. Xie Miaohan’s face turned deathly pale.
“I wasn’t in the bar…”
Gu Huaiye didn’t want to give him a chance to explain and left the milk tea shop directly.
Xie Miaohan stared at the milk tea Gu Huaiye hadn’t touched.
Suddenly, he chuckled lightly.
“So this method won’t work either.”
