Chapter 53: Will Your Fiancé Come?

The two began a short period of cohabitation.

Perhaps because of the ground rules set beforehand, Xie Miaohan was relatively well-behaved. He didn’t make any moves on him while he slept, nor did he release pheromones to suppress him again.

Although Gu Huaiye kept saying he didn’t need Xie Miaohan to do housework, Xie Miaohan always quietly cleaned the house while he went to the company, and even cooked a table full of food waiting for him to come home from work.

After eating, Gu Huaiye suddenly remembered that Xie Miaohan still hadn’t accepted his money. During this time, Xie Miaohan was basically responsible for the household expenses.

“I haven’t spent much of the two hundred thousand you gave me before; it’s more than enough to buy groceries.”

Gu Huaiye shook his head in disapproval. “That’s for your tuition and living expenses for two years; how can you mix it up?”

Xie Miaohan stacked the bowls and plates, looked up at Gu Huaiye, and smiled. “Then wait until you are satisfied with me, and I’ll accept your one million. That way I can buy you better ingredients.”

Gu Huaiye: “…”

Could he be playing the long game to catch a big fish?

Gu Huaiye naturally wouldn’t give Xie Miaohan such a chance. He thought for a moment, picked up his keys, and left the apartment.

He withdrew fifty thousand cash from the bank, returned to the apartment, and put the money on the coffee table.

Xie Miaohan finished the housework and came out holding fruits. Seeing the cash on the coffee table, he froze for a moment.

“If you want to buy groceries, take money from here. Take as much as you want.”

Gu Huaiye put on an appearance of wanting to draw a clear line with him, his brows dyed with indifference and wariness. “As for the one million, I’ll take you to the bank in a few days to open a new card. I’ll deposit money into it every month. When we are done, you take this card and leave. We won’t owe each other anything.”

Xie Miaohan gripped the fruit basket tightly, his knuckles turning white.

He suppressed the gloom in his heart and revealed a considerate and gentle smile at Gu Huaiye.

“Okay, I understand.”

Seeing Xie Miaohan agree, Gu Huaiye felt a huge relief.

Treating it as a transaction indeed reduced his guilt a lot.

“I’m going to work.” Gu Huaiye picked up the phone on the table. “Don’t disturb me if there’s nothing important.”

“Eat some fruit first.” Xie Miaohan said hurriedly, “You should rest occasionally. Let’s watch TV for a while, okay?”

Gu Huaiye glanced at the strawberries in his hand. “Eat it yourself; I have no appetite.”

After speaking, Gu Huaiye walked straight into the bedroom and closed the door.

He turned on the computer and made a report to send to his Little Uncle.

At this moment, the phone rang. It was Chen Zirui calling.

“What?” Gu Huaiye clamped the phone between his head and shoulder, typing quickly on the keyboard with both hands. “Your daddy is busy; no time to drink with you.”

“It’s almost New Year’s; why are you still busy?”

“Precisely because it’s almost New Year’s, I have to finish things in advance.”

Chen Zirui sighed. “Forget it, hurry up and tell me which unit you live in. Laozi is freezing to death downstairs.”

Gu Huaiye’s hands on the keyboard paused. He immediately grabbed the phone, surprised. “You came over?”

“Yeah, my brother kept pestering me to bring him to see you.”

Just as Chen Zirui finished, Chen Xialin’s voice squeezed in.

“Brother Gu, good evening!” Chen Xialin’s tone was still lively and enthusiastic, not affected by the previous engagement cancellation at all. “I bought cake for you, and lots and lots of snacks. Let’s eat together.”

Gu Huaiye immediately looked toward the door. The living room was quiet, but he knew Xie Miaohan was watching TV, only keeping it on mute to avoid disturbing him.

“I might be a bit busy. Next time.”

Chen Zirui got unhappy. “Hey, that’s not loyal enough. We brought stuff to your downstairs; no matter how busy you are, you should let us up for a cup of hot tea.”

Chen Xialin seemed hit by Gu Huaiye’s attitude too, his voice becoming obviously lower.

“Brother Gu, are you still thinking about canceling our engagement?” Chen Xialin choked out, “Do you hate me that much?”

“Hey, don’t cry.” After comforting Chen Xialin, Chen Zirui said to Gu Huaiye displeasedly, “I haven’t come to disturb you for so long, and now I don’t even have the qualification to visit, right? Then let’s not be friends anymore.”

Gu Huaiye rubbed his temples, helpless. “Fine, I’ll come down to get you.”

“Just say which building and unit.”

“There’s access control; I’d better come down.”

After hanging up, Gu Huaiye walked out of the bedroom.

Xie Miaohan was hugging a cushion on the sofa watching TV. Seeing Gu Huaiye come out, he stood up immediately.

“Done with work?” Xie Miaohan asked. “Or do you want me to make you hot tea?”

Gu Huaiye pursed his lips, avoiding eye contact with Xie Miaohan. “Can you go stay at a hotel tonight? Chen Zirui and the others are coming up to hang out; it might be inconvenient with you here.”

After a moment of silence, Xie Miaohan suddenly asked, “Will your fiancé come?”

“En.” Gu Huaiye nodded.

He thought Xie Miaohan would get angry or mock his selfishness and despicableness.

But there was nothing. Xie Miaohan was very calm.

He put down the cushion. Walking to the entryway, he seemed to think of something and turned back.

“Should I take my suitcase? If they see it, they might find out.”

Gu Huaiye couldn’t help clenching his fist.

“No need, they won’t go into the walk-in closet casually.”

Xie Miaohan smiled. “Then I overthought it.”

Gu Huaiye didn’t make a sound; he also felt he was behaving terribly.

“Then I’m leaving first. When you’re done, remember to message me.”

Gu Huaiye gave a soft “En”.

After Xie Miaohan left, Gu Huaiye waited two minutes before going out, bringing the Chen brothers who were standing at the gate upstairs.

“Why so long?” Chen Zirui draped his arm around Gu Huaiye’s shoulder. “Don’t tell me you got angry at what I said?”

Gu Huaiye shook his head with a faint smile. “Not that exaggerated.”

Chen Xialin walked to the other side and held Gu Huaiye’s arm.

“Brother Gu, you’re finally willing to see me.” Chen Xialin pouted aggrievedly. “You’ve been so busy lately; I never see you around.”

“I have to take over the company after graduation, so I have to familiarize myself with the business in advance. It is a bit busy.”

Chen Xialin looked shy. “Then when we get married, I’ll manage the inside, and you manage the outside. You get busy with the company, and I’ll take care of the Gu family for you.”

Chen Zirui sneered. “Haven’t even reached the engagement step yet, and you’re already thinking that far ahead. You kid really have no shame.”

Chen Xialin’s face flushed red as he glared at Chen Zirui. “What kind of brother are you? All you do is mock me all day.”

“I’m not mocking; I’m stating facts.”

“……”

As the three walked further away, Xie Miaohan stepped out from the darkness, his eyes dark and cold, enveloped by inferiority and suffocation.

“I clearly learned how to please you,” Xie Miaohan muttered to himself. “Why do you still treat me like this?”
