You Claimed You Didn’t Love Me, So Why Cry Now That I’m Engaged? Chapter 58

Chapter 58: Everyone Will Be Happy

After leaving the apartment, Gu Huaiye stayed at a nearby hotel for two days.

He hated Xie Miaohan’s self-degradation, and he was disgusted that Xie Miaohan was always coveting his family property.

But he didn’t want to argue anymore. They had argued enough in the previous life; it shouldn’t carry over into this one.

Xie Miaohan sent him many messages. Gu Huaiye didn’t want to chat with him, so he directly set his messages to “Do Not Disturb.”

This caused him to miss a lot of important information.

For instance, Xie Miaohan was searching for him everywhere.

He even waited downstairs at the Gu Group all night just to apologize and take him home.

Unfortunately, Gu Huaiye didn’t go to the company, so he didn’t see him.

His mood was terrible, and he didn’t want to bring negative emotions to work.

There were three days left until New Year’s Eve. Gu Huaiye finally left the hotel. He planned to go back to the apartment to pack some clothes and return to the Gu family villa.

At the gate of the residential complex, he encountered Chen Xialin wandering alone.

“Why are you here?” Gu Huaiye walked up to Chen Xialin, frowning. “Where’s your brother? Did you come alone?”

As soon as Chen Xialin saw Gu Huaiye’s face, his eyes immediately turned red.

“Brother Gu, I’m sorry.” Chen Xialin cried as he spoke. “That day, I deliberately made my heat come early. You suddenly came to my house to break off the engagement, and I was terrified that I couldn’t marry you, so I came up with that dirty method.”

Seeing him crying so hard, Gu Huaiye took a handkerchief from his pocket.

Chen Xialin thought he was still angry and dared not take it, crying even harder.

“I’m sorry… I’m really sorry…”

Seeing this, Gu Huaiye sighed helplessly, bent down, and wiped his tears with the handkerchief.

“The person you should apologize to isn’t me, but yourself. Have you ever thought about the consequences if I had marked you under those circumstances?” Gu Huaiye said, “What if I didn’t take responsibility? What would you do? Cleaning a mark is very dangerous; you could lose your life.”

“I didn’t know it would be that serious…” Chen Xialin shook his head. “I was just afraid of losing you.”

Gu Huaiye wiped the tears from his face and put the handkerchief back in his pocket.

“Why must you marry me?”

“Because I like you.” Chen Xialin’s eyes were firm. “Like you very, very much!”

“Why do you like me?” Gu Huaiye looked puzzled. “I don’t treat you any differently than I treat Chen Zirui.”

“That’s not true!” Chen Xialin hurriedly corrected him. “You treat me very well. My personality was too weak. Before I differentiated into an Omega, classmates often bullied me and threw bugs at me on purpose, but you helped me chase them away. And also…”

He was too embarrassed to continue with the rest.

Once, after PE class, he was locked in the equipment room by students from his class. As the sky grew darker, he was scared until he wet his pants.

It was Gu Huaiye who found him first. Seeing his messy state, he didn’t mock him.

He brought him clean pants from somewhere, and after he changed, led him back to the Chen house by the hand.

The next day, the group that bullied him was beaten black and blue by Gu Huaiye.

“Actually, I treated you as my younger brother, that’s why I took care of you like that,” Gu Huaiye said. “If Chen Zirui was bullied like that, I would have helped him too.”

Chen Xialin knew all this, of course, but he just liked Gu Huaiye.

“Brother Gu, our pheromones are so compatible; maybe it’s fate.” Chen Xialin carefully tugged at the corner of Gu Huaiye’s shirt, pleading, “Don’t cancel the engagement, okay?”

Gu Huaiye stared at Chen Xialin’s face. He knew this was the best choice.

The marriage alliance between the Gu and Chen families would mean mutual support in the future, and the companies would flourish.

His father would be gratified, and wouldn’t be ashamed to face his good friend for ten years because of his sudden cancellation of the engagement.

Everyone would be happy.

Everyone would be blissful.

Gu Huaiye pursed his lips and said, “Don’t cry. I won’t cancel the engagement.”

“Really?” Chen Xialin smiled through his tears and threw himself into a hug with Gu Huaiye. “That’s great! Thank you!”

Gu Huaiye froze, not knowing where to put his hands.

Suddenly, he sensed an intense gaze. He looked up and met Xie Miaohan’s eyes from two meters away.

Gu Huaiye couldn’t help but panic.

When did Xie Miaohan arrive?

Did he hear the entire conversation just now?

But a moment later, Gu Huaiye avoided Xie Miaohan’s burning gaze.

There was no need for him to panic.

He was going to break things off with Xie Miaohan anyway. This was good; it would let Xie Miaohan recognize his position and stop pestering him.

Gu Huaiye patted Chen Xialin on the back, signaling him to let go.

Then, he reached out to wipe a tear from the corner of Chen Xialin’s eye and said gently, “Stop crying. Is your birthday coming up soon? I think it’s in March, right?”

Chen Xialin nodded.

“I’ll prepare a gift for you then. You can look forward to it.”

“Okay.” Chen Xialin said happily, “Thank you, Brother Gu.”

“Go back now.” Gu Huaiye rubbed his head. “Do you need me to ask Lu Zishi to drive you?”

“No need, my driver is nearby.”

The Chen Xialin of this life hadn’t met Xie Miaohan and didn’t know the relationship between the two. He waved at Gu Huaiye, then turned and left excitedly.

Gu Huaiye stared in the direction Chen Xialin left until the figure completely disappeared. Only then did he put away his smile and walk up to Xie Miaohan.

“Why were you eavesdropping on our conversation?” Gu Huaiye said with cold eyes. “Don’t you know that’s very rude?”

He thought Xie Miaohan would refute him, but he lowered his head and whispered, “I’m sorry.”

“You…”

It felt like punching cotton—completely powerless.

Gu Huaiye glared at him, stepped around him, and walked straight toward the apartment building.

Inside the elevator, Xie Miaohan suddenly said, “You are… really gentle to your fiancé.”

Gentle enough that he wanted to kill that person.

Gu Huaiye glanced at Xie Miaohan with an inexplicable expression. “Nonsense. He’s an Omega, naturally fragile. He deserves to be treated gently.”

Xie Miaohan looked at him deeply but said nothing.

The elevator doors opened, and Gu Huaiye stepped out first, not delving too deeply into the meaning behind Xie Miaohan’s gaze.

He had intended to grab his luggage and leave, but his Little Uncle suddenly called him. He needed a new product proposal to show a client tonight.

Gu Huaiye had to pause his packing, go into the bedroom, open his laptop, and start working.

Because it was urgent, he forgot to lock the door.

Half an hour later, Xie Miaohan came up behind him with hot tea.

“Writing the proposal like this presents too many key points. The client will get visual fatigue looking at it.”

Gu Huaiye’s eyelid twitched, and he slammed the laptop shut.

He turned around and glared angrily at Xie Miaohan. “Who allowed you to peek at my work?”

The shadow of Xie Miaohan destroying the Gu Group still followed Gu Huaiye, making him terrified of Xie Miaohan seeing anything related to the company.

Even simple product information was forbidden.

“I saw you didn’t close the door, and I happened to brew tea, so I thought I’d bring you a cup.” Xie Miaohan explained patiently, “If you don’t like me making suggestions, I won’t do it in the future.”

It would have been fine if he hadn’t said anything, but saying it made Gu Huaiye feel useless.

No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t compare to Xie Miaohan.

Just like Xie Miaohan said in the previous life, he was just a waste who only knew how to spend money.

Gu Huaiye stood up with a whoosh, raised his hand, and shoved Xie Miaohan hard.

“Do you think I’m very usele—ah…”

Crash—

Gu Huaiye’s pupils constricted. He hadn’t expected that with just a casual shove, Xie Miaohan would fall backward.

The teacup smashed onto the floor, shattering into pieces.

When Xie Miaohan fell, his wrist hit the shards, and blood began to flow.

“Are you okay?”

Gu Huaiye hurriedly went to help him up, only to find his body was scorching hot.

“Do you have a fever?”

  1. 😭😭 my soft heart cant take this somehow.. i hope i can skip to the time when they’re already in good relationship…

    1. You’re not the only having this sentiment. When I first read this, I really wanted to skip it. It was too much but I also couldn’t put it down. We have a toxic relationship (love hate, I can’t let this go), this novel is bad for my heart but I keep coming back.
