Chapter 7: Single Room
After that night, the two fell into a cold war.
Gu Huaiye didn’t seek out Xie Miaohan, and Xie Miaohan had no intention of coming to find him; he didn’t even return to the apartment.
Whoever loves more is the weaker one.
Less than a week later, Gu Huaiye couldn’t take it anymore and ran eagerly to Xie Miaohan’s office to find him.
At the office entrance, he ran into Wen Xuyue, who was coming out holding a stack of documents.
When Wen Xuyue saw him, his face lit up with happiness. “Gu Xuezhang, you’re here.”
Seeing him smile like that, Gu Huaiye assumed Wen Xuyue was provoking him, so he immediately darkened his face and deliberately bumped his shoulder against Wen Xuyue as he passed.
Once he opened the door and entered, he switched to a different face, his smile somewhat fawning.
“Miaomiao, still busy?”
Xie Miaohan’s eyelashes trembled slightly. He didn’t look up, his hand gripping the fountain pen as he continued with his work.
“Miaomiao, are you still angry?”
Whenever Gu Huaiye had a favor to ask or wanted to invite him to bed, he would soften his voice and call him “Miaomiao.”
But as soon as he got what he wanted, he would switch back to calling him “Xie Miaohan.”
Gu Huaiye squeezed himself between Xie Miaohan and the desk, pushed the documents on top aside, sat right down, and draped his hands over Xie Miaohan’s shoulders.
“I’ve already chased that person away. Wifey is still the best. Come home tonight.”
Xie Miaohan stared at him quietly, staring until Gu Huaiye felt embarrassed.
He tugged at Xie Miaohan’s tie, wrapping it around his index finger; the scent of submission was already very obvious.
“Who told you to be ambiguous with Wen Xuyue? You cuckolded me first; can’t I cuckold you back once?”
“Have you actually investigated it properly?” Xie Miaohan suddenly spoke.
“Huh?” Gu Huaiye didn’t understand what he meant.
“Forget it.” Xie Miaohan pulled his tie out of Gu Huaiye’s hand. “What do you want to do now?”
“Nothing much, just want to call you home for the night.” Seeing his cold and indifferent attitude, Gu Huaiye’s mood began to sour as well. “What kind of couple lives apart forever? If you refuse to come home, then why did I marry you?”
He had already bowed his head to beg Xie Miaohan to come home, yet the man wasn’t appreciating it at all.
“You must come home tonight.” Gu Huaiye got angry, gritting his teeth as he threatened, “If you keep giving me the cold shoulder, I’ll f*ck you to death right here.”
“Understood. I’ll return tonight,” Xie Miaohan said, his tone neither cold nor warm.
Seeing the other party agree, Gu Huaiye’s mood didn’t improve.
He felt that Xie Miaohan only compromised temporarily because of his threat.
He wondered what Xie Miaohan was like in front of Wen Xuyue.
He was probably so gentle he could wring water out of him.
“When are you firing Wen Xuyue?”
“I won’t fire him.”
Gu Huaiye’s eyes went wide, his teeth grinding audibly. “Aren’t you going a bit too far? I’ve begged you like this, and you still won’t settle down?”
“You are the one going too far.” Xie Miaohan looked up at him, his cold eyes creating a strong sense of alienation. “You never ask about company matters, dumping the whole mess on me while you only know how to drink and party with your childhood friend. You stretch out your hand for clothes and open your mouth for food, taking my hard work for granted. Since you handed the company over to me, you should respect my decisions.”
Gu Huaiye had never been lectured like this in his life; he was so embarrassed his face turned red.
But Xie Miaohan chose to ignore it and continued, “This time, no matter how you threaten me, I won’t fire him.”
Gu Huaiye glared, his eyes round with rage, on the verge of exploding.
Just as he was preparing to release his pheromones to teach Xie Miaohan a lesson, he lowered his gaze and glimpsed the ring on the other man’s ring finger.
His anger vanished without a trace instantly.
He remembered their wedding day. He had been drunk and was coaxing Xie Miaohan to go to bed with him.
Both he and Xie Miaohan were Alphas; one of them had to be on the bottom.
He didn’t want to be on the bottom; he felt it was somewhat shameful.
So he could only coax Xie Miaohan to yield.
Xie Miaohan naturally refused as well. At school, he was an SSS-tier Alpha—simply put, a higher level than Gu Huaiye, extremely rare, and the male god in the hearts of all Omegas.
It was just that his family background wasn’t great. But if he worked hard and joined the specialized training at the academy to become part of the military, he would have had a chance to break through his social class in the future.
But Gu Huaiye had destroyed all of that, leaving him with no choice but to rely on the Gu Group to survive.
The two began to fight. Gu Huaiye’s strength was obviously inferior to Xie Miaohan’s, and the winner was determined quickly.
Flustered and exasperated, Gu Huaiye actually smashed a glass cup, intending to use the shards to scare Xie Miaohan, but accidentally cut Xie Miaohan’s wrist.
This commotion alerted Father Gu.
Xie Miaohan clutched the wound on his wrist, kneeling on the floor, his face turned to the side from a slap delivered by Father Gu.
The result was predictable: Gu Huaiye won. He slept with Xie Miaohan just as he had wished.
When the impulse faded and reason returned.
He stared at the bloodstains on the sheets, and guilt immediately surged up.
Gu Huaiye held the pale-faced Xie Miaohan, constantly muttering “Miaomiao.”
To coax Xie Miaohan into being happy, he even held up three fingers and swore that he would never bully Xie Miaohan again in this life.
Having finished recalling the past, Gu Huaiye was no longer angry. He sat on Xie Miaohan’s lap and wrapped his arms around the other man’s waist.
“Miaomiao, good Miaomiao, let’s stop fighting, okay?”
Gu Huaiye lifted Xie Miaohan’s left hand, his fingertips gently stroking the raised scar.
“If you want to keep him, keep him. But you have to promise me, no fooling around in the company. No, you can’t fool around anywhere.”
Xie Miaohan didn’t answer, lowering his eyes to watch Gu Huaiye’s movements.
Gu Huaiye suddenly cupped Xie Miaohan’s face, leaned in, and placed a very light kiss on those pale pink lips.
“You aren’t speaking, so I’ll take it as you agreeing.”
Xie Miaohan still didn’t pay him any attention.
Gu Huaiye frowned, dissatisfied. “Shouldn’t you kiss me back? How long has it been since you initiated anything?”
Under the light, Xie Miaohan’s face was illuminated until it looked pale, possessing a cold indifference that felt inhumane.
Gu Huaiye felt somewhat defeated and was preparing to get off his lap.
Xie Miaohan suddenly gripped his waist, leaned in, and kissed him.
This kiss came somewhat violently, leaving Gu Huaiye breathless. He pushed uncomfortably against Xie Miaohan’s chest.
The next second, a stinging pain shot through his lip; he tasted blood.
Xie Miaohan finally let go of him. His lips were stained with blood, looking vibrant and carrying a charming danger.
“Damn, are you crazy? That hurts.”
Gu Huaiye quickly pulled out a tissue and pressed it against the wound on his lip.
He’s sick in the head.
We aren’t animals; why did he bite me?
Xie Miaohan’s mood seemed to improve, a hint of a smile floating at the corner of his mouth.
“What do you want to eat tonight? Let’s go home.”
Gu Huaiye’s eyes lit up with joy. He tossed away the tissue in his hand and took Xie Miaohan’s hand again.
“You’re not fighting with me anymore?”
“When was I fighting?” Xie Miaohan gathered the documents on the desk and put them into the bottom drawer. “You only know how to spend money; you have no idea about the company’s situation. I’ve been staying up late working these past few days.”
Gu Huaiye laughed happily, but then remembering someone’s face, he immediately put away his smile.
“Then where did you sleep?” Gu Huaiye kept a straight face. “Don’t lie to me and say you slept at the company; I’m not an idiot.”
“A nearby hotel.” Xie Miaohan paused, then said, “A single room.”
