Chapter 88: Xie Miaohan Has Already Left
Gu Huaiye was stunned, taking a long while to react.
“You want to go on a date with me?”
“Mhm.” Xie Miaohan nodded, his smile carrying a hint of apology. “In my past life, I was too busy and never had time to go on dates with you. I’m sorry. Can you let me make it up to you today?”
It could also count as making it up to himself.
“But…” Gu Huaiye hesitated.
Xie Miaohan didn’t speak, staring at him with a gentle expression, waiting for his decision.
“Alright.” Gu Huaiye also smiled and actively took Xie Miaohan’s hand. “Let’s go on a date.”
Since they wouldn’t see each other again anyway.
Just consider it leaving a beautiful memory for each other.
“Where do you want to go?” Xie Miaohan asked again.
This stumped Gu Huaiye. He hadn’t dated in either of his two lives. Being suddenly asked where he wanted to go, he really couldn’t think of anywhere.
He directly asked Xie Miaohan back, “Do you have a place you want to go?”
Xie Miaohan thought for a long time, his expression a bit shy as he whispered, “Let’s go to the amusement park. Since I was little, I’ve always wanted to go there, but I never had the chance.”
His parents had died too early. His childhood was filled only with pain; let alone an amusement park, even eating a full meal was a luxury.
He boarded at relatives’ homes, his skin under his clothes covered in welts from belt whippings. His relatives would take their own children to the amusement park, while he could only stay home and clean.
When the relatives returned, he watched the happy, satisfied smiles on his cousins’ faces, his heart filled with envy.
Not only did he not get to go to the amusement park, but he was also slapped by an elder upon their return, his ears ringing for a long time, just because he forgot to dump the dirty water in the mop bucket.
“Huaiye, what do you think?” Xie Miaohan seemed to feel it was a bit childish and changed his words, “Forget it, let’s change to a…”
“Let’s go. Let’s go there.” Gu Huaiye squeezed his hand tightly, looking expectant. “I haven’t been to District B’s amusement park yet. It should be bigger and more luxurious than District A’s.”
Xie Miaohan rubbed his head. “Then I’ll book the tickets first. I hope there aren’t many people today.”
“Okay.”
Gu Huaiye waited for him to buy the tickets, then got into the car Xie Miaohan drove.
He stared at Xie Miaohan’s hands on the steering wheel and asked puzzledly, “It’s not very cold today. Why are you still wearing gloves? Isn’t it stuffy?”
Xie Miaohan’s expression changed slightly. Then he sniffled and said helplessly, “I wore too little yesterday and accidentally caught a chill, so I’m a bit afraid of the cold today and accidentally wore a bit too much.”
“It’s not good to overheat and get sick. If you get hot, take off a layer.”
Xie Miaohan nodded. “Okay.”
Arriving at the destination, Gu Huaiye got out of the car first. After waiting for a while and realizing Xie Miaohan hadn’t come out yet, he opened the car door again to hurry him up.
He found Xie Miaohan taking medicine, looking somewhat in pain, his pale lips pressed tightly together.
“Are you okay?” Gu Huaiye asked nervously. “You look like you’re suffering. Are you feeling unwell somewhere? Should we go to the hospital?”
Xie Miaohan hadn’t expected him to reopen the car door. A flash of panic appeared on his face, but he quickly calmed down.
“It’s just that the cold is quite severe, and I have a headache. Taking some cold medicine should fix it.”
“Are you really okay?”
“Mhm, don’t worry.”
Seeing his color seemed to improve a bit, Gu Huaiye didn’t ask further.
“Good thing there aren’t many people.” Gu Huaiye changed the subject, smiling. “We’re really lucky today.”
“Yeah.”
Xie Miaohan seemed happy too. After getting out of the car, he took Gu Huaiye’s hand.
He wanted to hold it tighter, but afraid of hurting Gu Huaiye, he held it loosely.
District B’s amusement park was indeed much larger in scale than District A’s. Just looking at the rides inside made Gu Huaiye dizzy.
He wanted to pull Xie Miaohan straight to the thrilling rides, but Xie Miaohan kept staring at a certain spot.
Gu Huaiye followed his gaze and saw the carousel.
“You want to ride that?” Gu Huaiye curved his lips, teasing deliberately, “Still a child at heart, I see.”
Xie Miaohan’s ears turned a bit red, a rare shyness appearing on his cold, handsome face.
“Can we ride that?”
“Of course.” Gu Huaiye pulled him toward the carousel. “Let’s go line up.”
There weren’t many people at the amusement park today. After about ten minutes, it was their turn.
Gu Huaiye was about to get on when Xie Miaohan suddenly stopped him.
“Can you take a picture of me?”
Gu Huaiye paused, then said, “Sure.”
In the end, he chose not to get on the carousel. Standing with a group of parents with children, he picked up his phone and snapped away at Xie Miaohan.
Looking at Xie Miaohan through the phone camera, he couldn’t help but be subdued by Xie Miaohan’s stunningly beautiful face.
Truly flawless from every angle; he looked good no matter how the photo was taken.
Just as he was about to take a few more, he suddenly saw that Xie Miaohan seemed to be crying.
Gu Huaiye froze, lowered his phone, and looked at Xie Miaohan.
Noticing his gaze, Xie Miaohan smiled at him. There wasn’t a trace of sadness on his face, as if what he saw just now was merely an illusion.
When the carousel stopped, Xie Miaohan got off and took Gu Huaiye’s phone. The corners of his mouth kept rising; he seemed very satisfied.
“Looks good.”
Much better than the photos his relative’s ugly son took.
“Of course, my skills are excellent,” Gu Huaiye said proudly.
Xie Miaohan rubbed his head. “Do you want to ride? I’ll take pictures for you.”
“No need, I got bored of playing on those long ago,” Gu Huaiye said. “Today I’ll act as your photographer. How about I be responsible for taking pictures of you?”
Xie Miaohan smiled and didn’t speak.
They went on almost all the rides that didn’t have age restrictions for adults.
By the time both were exhausted, the sky had gradually darkened.
Xie Miaohan looked back at the amusement park with reluctance. “Let’s go back.”
“Not going to keep playing?” Gu Huaiye pointed at a promotional poster not far away. “I see there’s a fireworks show tonight.”
Xie Miaohan shook his head.
He was starting to hurt again. He had to secretly take painkillers where Gu Huaiye couldn’t see.
“Alright then.”
Gu Huaiye felt it was a pity, but considering Xie Miaohan had a cold and might really be feeling unwell, he had to choose to go back.
They returned to the villa.
“You go shower and rest first,” Xie Miaohan said. “I still have work to deal with.”
“Remember to take your cold medicine. If you really feel unwell, we’ll go to the hospital.”
“Okay.”
After showering, Gu Huaiye lay in bed, finding it hard to fall asleep.
Today was truly happy.
It was a pity there would never be another day like it.
Gu Huaiye sighed, closed his eyes, and forced himself to sleep.
He didn’t know how much time passed before the door opened.
Xie Miaohan got into bed and pulled Gu Huaiye into his arms.
“Husband.” Xie Miaohan’s voice was hoarse and low. “This is the last time I’ll call you that. Go back to District A and take good care of yourself. Don’t always drink alcohol; it hurts your body, you know?”
Gu Huaiye’s eyes stung, and he gave a soft “Mhm.”
“Once you leave District B, don’t come back again. And don’t be sad because of me; it was my own choice.”
“Okay.”
“Go to sleep.” Xie Miaohan kissed Gu Huaiye’s ear. “Husband, call me Miaomiao one last time, okay?”
“Miaomiao… goodnight…”
Xie Miaohan revealed a satisfied smile. “Goodnight.”
The next day, when Gu Huaiye woke up, Xie Miaohan had already left.
On the nightstand lay a ring. It was the one Xie Miaohan left behind.
Xie Miaohan usually wore it tightly on his ring finger. Now, he finally found it in himself to take it off.
