Chapter 90: He Looks So Much Like Xie Miaohan
Gu Huaiye couldn’t quite grasp the situation. He stood frozen in place for a good while.
Why did he feel that child’s face was a bit familiar?
He looked so much like Xie Miaohan.
If he had traveled back more than ten years, then the current Xie Miaohan should be only six or seven years old.
Could that child be Xie Miaohan?
Gu Huaiye recalled the fierce face of the fat man chasing him. Not daring to delay, he hurriedly walked in the direction they had left.
In a small alley, he finally found the two of them.
The boy, who looked only six or seven, was lying on the ground, wolfing down the bun with dirty hands.
The fat man chasing him was kicking the boy’s back repeatedly, spewing profanities.
Because the boy was face down, Gu Huaiye couldn’t see his appearance clearly and wasn’t sure if it was Xie Miaohan.
He thought he must have been mistaken.
After Xie Miaohan’s parents died, he boarded with relatives. It shouldn’t be so bad that he couldn’t even afford food.
It was probably just a resemblance.
“Eat! Eat it!” The fat man was still kicking his back, gritting his teeth. “Damn beggar, you’ve stolen so many times. I finally caught you.”
Gu Huaiye couldn’t watch anymore and rushed forward to stop him.
“Alright, if you keep kicking, something will happen to him.”
“Who are you?” The fat man looked at Gu Huaiye, sized him up, and said, “Don’t tell me you’re his guardian? Dressed like a human but acting like a dog, actually letting your kid steal food.”
Gu Huaiye: “…”
He hadn’t said anything yet.
“I’m not his guardian, but he only ate one of your buns. There’s no need to beat him like this. If there’s an issue, hand him over to the police. Beating him like this is against the law.”
The fat man laughed at Gu Huaiye’s words. He crossed his arms, kept one foot on the boy’s back, and looked at Gu Huaiye with disdain.
“You’re talking to me about the law? No one governs this place; where would all these laws come from?” The fat man sneered. “Seeing you dressed so nobly, you must be from somewhere else. I advise you to mind your own business here, lest you get yourself into a mess.”
Seeing that the man was unreasonable, Gu Huaiye had no choice but to reach into his pocket.
Fortunately, his wallet was inside.
However, there wasn’t much cash, only a bunch of cards he didn’t know if he could use here.
“I’ll pay you back for however much he ate.”
The fat man raised an eyebrow and finally removed his foot from the boy’s back.
“Rich people are weird, rushing to do charity.”
The fat man couldn’t be bothered to continue the entanglement; as long as his loss was covered, it was fine. He had to go back to the bun shop to prevent other beggars from stealing.
Gu Huaiye paid him. After the fat man left, he squatted down to examine the boy.
“This bun is dirty; don’t eat it anymore. Careful you don’t get a stomachache.”
The boy ignored him, stuffing the bun into his mouth relentlessly.
Gu Huaiye sighed helplessly. “Did he hurt you? If you’re uncomfortable anywhere, we need to go to the hospital. Where are your parents? Why did they let you steal buns alone outside?”
The boy’s eating paused. A moment later, he continued eating until he finished. He stood up and dusted off his pants.
Gu Huaiye finally saw his face clearly, and his breath hitched.
Wasn’t this Xie Miaohan’s face?
The mole at the corner of the eye, the exquisite features, and those beautiful eyes.
Gu Huaiye was shocked speechless, staring dumbly at the boy.
Xie Miaohan didn’t even look at Gu Huaiye, nor did he intend to thank him.
He prepared to leave, but Gu Huaiye grabbed his arm, his voice trembling, “You are Xie Miaohan, right?”
Xie Miaohan frowned, looking up at Gu Huaiye.
Was this another relative of his parents?
Through the familiar brows and eyes, Gu Huaiye was absolutely certain this was Miaomiao.
Overcome with emotion, he hugged the person into his arms.
Xie Miaohan froze, then struggled restlessly, his childish voice ringing out, “Let go of me.”
Gu Huaiye remembered that Xie Miaohan didn’t know him yet and quickly let go.
Xie Miaohan immediately checked his pockets, digging both hands inside. A moment later, his face turned ugly, and he glared fiercely at Gu Huaiye.
“Did you steal my bracelet!”
Gu Huaiye paused, shaking his head blankly. “No, I didn’t.”
“It was in my pocket just now; you definitely stole it!” Xie Miaohan punched Gu Huaiye’s abdomen angrily. “Give it back! Give it back to me!”
Xie Miaohan was only six or seven right now, very short, so his hits didn’t hurt.
Gu Huaiye was both helpless and flustered. He looked around and finally found the glittering gold bracelet where Xie Miaohan had been lying just now.
He gently pushed Xie Miaohan away and picked up the bracelet.
“Do you mean this?”
Xie Miaohan took one look and suddenly rushed over.
“Give it back!”
He bit Gu Huaiye’s hand.
Gu Huaiye hissed but didn’t push Xie Miaohan away.
