You Claimed You Didn’t Love Me, So Why Cry Now That I’m Engaged? Chapter 92

Chapter 92: I’ll Take Care of You

Seeing the blood continuously bubbling from Xie Miaohan’s mouth, Gu Huaiye didn’t dare delay.

The people here were difficult to deal with; expecting help to call the police or an ambulance was unlikely. Fortunately, he had gritted his teeth and bought a secondhand flip phone the day before.

He called an ambulance first, planning to call the police once they were at the hospital.

Gu Huaiye knew District H was bad, but he hadn’t expected it to be this bad.

The operator confirmed several times that he could pay the ambulance fee before finally agreeing to dispatch a vehicle.

Gu Huaiye’s face remained dark the entire time. Even when the medical staff arrived, he didn’t give them a pleasant look.

Luckily, Xie Miaohan wasn’t critically injured, though the internal bleeding required him to stay for observation.

After paying the fees, Gu Huaiye stared at his rapidly thinning wallet and sighed.

He needed to get to District A as soon as possible.

There were no jobs here, and even if there were, they weren’t suitable for Gu Huaiye. He wouldn’t make much money and would likely work himself to death.

By the time the police arrived, Xie Miaohan had just woken up.

Gu Huaiye coaxed Xie Miaohan gently, “Don’t be afraid. Just tell the police officer everything. We will protect you.”

Xie Miaohan pursed his lips, glanced timidly at the police officer, and shook his head.

“I don’t remember.”

Gu Huaiye was stunned. Thinking Xie Miaohan had amnesia from the fall, he quickly pointed to his own face.

“Do you remember who I am?”

Xie Miaohan nodded. “I remember. You’re the weird uncle.”

Gu Huaiye: “……”

Whatever. Xie Miaohan was indeed much younger than him right now.

He wouldn’t hold a grudge against a child.

“So, you don’t remember how you fell?” The Beta officer scribbled briefly in his notebook and said expressionlessly, “Then it’s likely you fell by accident.”

Gu Huaiye was taken aback and questioned angrily, “He hasn’t said a thing yet. How can you conclude he fell by himself?”

The Beta glanced indifferently at Gu Huaiye. “I said it’s likely.”

“You can’t say that in front of him! If you say that, how will he dare to tell the truth?”

“So, you think someone pushed him?”

“Yes! I saw it,” Gu Huaiye said firmly. “There was a man in his forties or fifties at the window he fell from. He definitely pushed him.”

The Beta looked at Xie Miaohan. “Who else is in your family?”

“Uncle…” Xie Miaohan answered softly. “Auntie went to work. My cousins are at school.”

The Beta frowned. “Why aren’t you at school? Are you skipping class?”

“Uncle wouldn’t give me…” Xie Miaohan paused, then suddenly changed his words. “I don’t like studying.”

The Beta let out a cold laugh and didn’t ask any more questions.

Gu Huaiye was seething with rage.

What the hell was wrong with District H? everyone he met was so cold-blooded.

No wonder the bun shop owner had told him the law was useless here.

“It seems there is no clear evidence pointing to someone pushing him,” the Beta said, closing his notebook and addressing Gu Huaiye. “The windows in these houses don’t have guardrails. Kids are naughty; falling out is normal.”

Gu Huaiye had already given up on this person.

He was tempted to just take Xie Miaohan and leave for District A immediately.

As soon as the police left, Xie Miaohan sat up and pulled the IV needle out of his arm.

Gu Huaiye was startled and quickly held him down by the shoulders.

“You haven’t recovered yet. Lie down and be good.”

Xie Miaohan shook his head. “I have to go back and cook, or Uncle will be angry.”

“You have to cook at this age?” Gu Huaiye was shocked. “What kind of life are you living in that house?”

A thought struck him. He grabbed Xie Miaohan’s arm and pulled up the sleeve.

The messy array of scars underneath made Gu Huaiye gasp.

“Did they beat you?”

Xie Miaohan quickly pulled his hand back and tugged his sleeve down.

“No, I fell by accident.”

Gu Huaiye gritted his teeth, furious. “You can get scars like that from falling?”

When the nurse was examining Xie Miaohan earlier, Gu Huaiye had been waiting outside and hadn’t seen these injuries.

If this were District A, seeing this condition, someone would have called the police long ago.

From the moment he entered the hospital until now, no one had mentioned it to him, which showed that the people of District H tacitly accepted this behavior.

Xie Miaohan had already gotten out of bed and was crouching down to put on his shoes.

Gu Huaiye couldn’t stop him, so he took his hand. “Fine, I’ll go back with you.”

He was going to take Xie Miaohan away, but before leaving, he had to teach that old bastard a lesson.

Led by Xie Miaohan, Gu Huaiye arrived at the aunt’s house.

The moment the door opened, Gu Huaiye punched the man straight in the face.

Feeling that wasn’t enough to vent his anger, he kicked the man in the stomach several times.

“Who are you! Why are you hitting me!” The man clutched his nose, and upon seeing blood, he screamed in exasperation, “Shit, I’m bleeding! I’m calling the police! Just you wait!”

Gu Huaiye sneered. “Go ahead. Call them. Ideally, let the police investigate exactly how you threw such a small child out of a window.”

“I didn’t push him! He fell himself!”

Gu Huaiye kicked him again in anger.

“Go pack your things,” Gu Huaiye turned to say to Xie Miaohan. “I’ll take care of you.”

Xie Miaohan froze, standing motionless.

Seeing him not moving, Gu Huaiye asked gently, “What’s wrong? You don’t want to?”

Seeming afraid Gu Huaiye would change his mind, Xie Miaohan turned and ran inside.

“You little brat, what are you doing?” the man on the floor shouted toward the room.

Gu Huaiye stepped on the man’s beer belly, saying viciously, “You should be glad you aren’t meeting the District A version of me right now, or I would absolutely kill you.”

Xie Miaohan came out carrying his schoolbag and took the initiative to hold Gu Huaiye’s hand.

Gu Huaiye’s gaze softened. “Let’s go.”

Once the two had left, the woman who had been hiding inside, afraid to make a sound, rushed out to help the man up.

“Did you really throw him downstairs?”

The man spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva.

“He jumped himself! I’m not crazy. Even if I wanted to discipline him, I’d just beat him inside the house. Why would I push him out the window? That could kill someone.”

“Should we call the police?”

“Forget it. Let him go. It’s better for us to have one less mouth to feed.”
