Chapter 94: With You, I Won’t Go Hungry

“Is the schoolbag heavy? Why didn’t you leave it at the hotel? It must be uncomfortable carrying it around.” Gu Huaiye reached out to grab the shoulder straps of the bag. “Let me carry it for you.”

Xie Miaohan gripped the straps tightly with both hands, refusing to let Gu Huaiye take it off.

Gu Huaiye let go and asked, “Don’t tell me your bracelet is inside?”

Xie Miaohan’s expression shifted slightly. He didn’t answer, but Gu Huaiye had pretty much guessed the truth.

He was so nervous about the bag; he must have hidden the bracelet inside.

It was actually a little disheartening.

Gu Huaiye thought that after feeding him for so long, he might have earned the boy’s trust.

“Alright, alright, I won’t carry it.”

“Is that all you have?”

Xie Miaohan pulled out another set; the top had a massive hole in it.

“These are leftovers from my cousin,” Xie Miaohan said. “That’s all there is.”

Gu Huaiye pinched the bridge of his nose. “Forget it. Go take a shower first. I’ll take you to the market tomorrow to pick out a few outfits.”

Xie Miaohan seemed happy. He wanted to smile, but fearing it might be annoying, he desperately suppressed the corners of his mouth.

“No need, these are fine to wear.”

Gu Huaiye was afraid he would feel like a burden, so after thinking for a moment, he said, “You don’t need to be afraid of spending money. Just pay me back when you grow up and make money.”

Xie Miaohan nodded vigorously.

“I will be filial to you when I grow up.”

“With you, I won’t go hungry.”

A very realistic answer.

He thought Xie Miaohan was moved by his heroic rescue.

Or that he thought Gu Huaiye was a particularly good person and trusted him unconditionally.

Xie Miaohan sniffled and held out his pinky finger toward Gu Huaiye.

“But wouldn’t you want to live with rich people?” Gu Huaiye asked curiously. “What if I sold you to a wealthy family? You’d have lots of new clothes and beautiful toys.”

Xie Miaohan shook his head and actively hugged Gu Huaiye.

“I just want to be with Brother.”

Gu Huaiye was touched by his words.

It was worth raising him after all.

District H was quite far from District A; the train ride took a full day and night.

Gu Huaiye squatted down to put Xie Miaohan’s shoes on for him.

“Stay close to me later. The train station is crowded, and it’ll be trouble if you get lost.”

“I know, Brother.”

After getting off the train, Gu Huaiye held Xie Miaohan’s hand tightly.

They had only walked a few steps when someone suddenly bumped into them. Without even apologizing to Gu Huaiye, the person turned and walked away.

Gu Huaiye ignored it and pulled Xie Miaohan forward.

But at that moment, Xie Miaohan wrenched his hand free and ran back.

“Miaomiao! Where are you going!”

Startled, Gu Huaiye quickly pushed through the crowd and chased after him.

After searching for a long time, he finally found Xie Miaohan near the restrooms.

Xie Miaohan had a fierce look in his eyes. He was holding a small knife, brandishing it at a teenager who was older than him.

“Give my brother’s wallet back!”

Gu Huaiye quickly checked his pocket. The wallet was indeed gone.

The teenager, who had already been backed into a corner by Xie Miaohan, saw Gu Huaiye arrive and immediately lost his nerve.

He threw the wallet on the ground and, while Xie Miaohan bent down to pick it up, quickly slipped away.
