Chapter 96: Don’t Abandon Me

The only issue was the cost—tuition was five thousand a year.

But Gu Huaiye currently had no job, and his money was almost gone. He really couldn’t cough up five thousand.

He pleaded in the principal’s office for a long time and finally convinced him to grant a three-month grace period to pay the tuition.

When they left the school, Xie Miaohan cautiously observed Gu Huaiye’s face.

“Brother, maybe we should forget it,” Xie Miaohan said. “I’m not smart. Letting me study is a waste.”

Xie Miaohan let out a small “Mn,” trotted over, and threw himself into Gu Huaiye’s embrace.

“Dreams are fake. Don’t be afraid,” Gu Huaiye soothed him.

“But I dreamed Mom and Dad died. That isn’t fake.”

Gu Huaiye had to change his approach. “Brother will stay with you, okay?”

Xie Miaohan responded with a muffled sound.

“Go to sleep.” Gu Huaiye patted his back gently. “If you don’t sleep now, you won’t be able to get up tomorrow.”

Xie Miaohan lifted his face, teardrops still clinging to his eyelashes.

“Brother, can you lull me to sleep?”

This stumped Gu Huaiye.

He didn’t know how to lull people to sleep.

But he couldn’t resist Xie Miaohan’s pitiful eyes. Helpless, he patted the mattress.

“Come up. I’ll sing nursery rhymes to lull you.”

Xie Miaohan smiled, quickly climbed up, and lay down obediently.

Gu Huaiye patted Xie Miaohan’s back while singing nursery rhymes, completely out of tune.

Ten minutes later, he had lulled himself to sleep.

Xie Miaohan stared at Gu Huaiye’s face for a long time. Then he moved closer, resting his face against Gu Huaiye’s arm.

“Brother, don’t abandon me.”

He repeated it several times. He didn’t stop until Gu Huaiye rolled over in his sleep.

Gu Huaiye dressed Xie Miaohan up neatly. When they arrived at school, the boy attracted the attention of many classmates.

Everyone crowded around, actively greeting Xie Miaohan.

Gu Huaiye waved at him. “Listen to the teacher at school. I’ll come to pick you up this afternoon.”

After saying that, he turned to leave.
