Chapter 9: Why Is Shi He Back?
After finishing his words, Ruan Zhimian left the hall in a state of both anger and sadness, and he had the butler block Han He’an, not allowing him to follow.
Phew. Now he had a perfect reason to ignore Han He’an and could have a few days of peace.
Ruan Zhimian hugged Qiuqiu and bypassed the crowd, his soft fingertips curling as he prepared to go to the second-floor lounge to get his book.
[Qiuqiu, I don’t have to see Han He’an anymore. He’s so annoying.]
Qiuqiu understood completely and wobbled to show its agreement.
Ruan Zhimian lifted the hem of his dress with his left hand as he walked up. Suddenly, a dark shadow appeared before him.
He was about to step aside when, at the moment he saw the figure clearly, his fingers loosened. His leather shoe stepped on the drooping hem, and he crashed straight into the person.
With a thud, his ankle knocked against the step.
This person was actually… Shi He???
Why was he at the Ruan house???
A hand appeared just in time, pulling him into an embrace.
The silly little cat’s eyes went wide. Feeling incredibly guilty, he lowered his head, his whole body shaking so much he looked like he might shed fur. He tried to hide his entire face with his hands and said in a tiny voice, “Thank you. Please let me go.”
The Alpha’s cold, detached eyes looked down, meeting those pure, reddened, beautiful eyes. His voice was flat and devoid of emotion; his reaction was a bit slow.
“Sorry, I’m not wearing my hearing aid right now.”
“It’s not safe here. I’ll carry you up first, okay?”
the little scammer lowered his head even further. His styled, exquisite curls brushed against Shi He’s arm. He stayed quiet and obedient, acting as if he were letting Shi He do as he pleased.
His head gradually sank lower, and his porcelain-white nape was exposed, completely unaware of the danger.
Shi He really wanted to bite it.
Not to mention, Ruan Zhimian’s body was covered in a mess of different pheromone scents, likely picked up in the hall just now.
To an Alpha about to enter his Easy Period, this was a provocation.
Shi He lifted his eyelids, his eyes deep and gloomy. His long, cold, white fingers pinched the waist of the little scammer in his arms. He picked him up with one hand, trapping him firmly in his embrace to prevent him from falling down the stairs again.
Shi He was very tall, at least half a head taller than Ruan Zhimian. His physique, honed by years of exercise, was an entire size larger; he could pick him up with ease.
Ruan Zhimian’s fingers rested loosely on the Alpha’s neck as he very, very obediently hugged Shi He’s neck.
Shi He’s arm, which moved with deliberate slowness, gathered the broad and complex hem of his “wife’s” dress.
Step by step, he carried him to the level ground on the second floor.
He set him down with exceptional politeness and didn’t let go until Ruan Zhimian was steady. “Are you standing firmly?”
The little scammer gave a small response and nodded at him again. “Mhm.”
Shi He wasn’t wearing his hearing aid, so he couldn’t hear at all.
That car accident back then had caused a huge change in Shi He’s life.
He was clearly a favored son of heaven…
Ruan Zhimian’s foot hurt, and he felt a bit sad. He leaned slowly back against the wall, watching longingly as Shi He put on his hearing aid. Only then did he deliver the lines he had been preparing for ages.
“Thank you. May I ask what your name is?”
“No.”
Ruan Zhimian: “?”
Is Shi He… this… cold? On the day he first transmigrated and sent so many sweet words to request to be added as a friend, he had passed through very quickly.
Shi He lowered his cold phoenix eyes and tidied his loosened collar. The 190cm Alpha put on an obedient look and replied warmly, “Sorry, my family is quite strict. My boyfriend doesn’t let me chat with others randomly.”
The little scammer cat before him was filled with question marks: “??”
I never said that!
The next second, Shi He pulled out his phone and said to Ruan Zhimian’s face, “Let me ask my boyfriend.”
Ruan Zhimian immediately clutched his own phone, turned his back secretly, and quickly pressed the power button.
Whew. Fortunately, he had set it to silent at noon.
Shi He didn’t get through. He was just teasing Ruan Zhimian. He looked at Ruan Zhimian with a thoughtful expression and, without warning, stepped closer, trapping Ruan Zhimian against the wall.
At the same time, the amber pheromones of a high-level Alpha drifted around, quickly driving away other scents. The Beta before him belonged only to him.
Shi He asked politely, “Young Master Ruan, your voice sounds a bit like my boyfriend’s.”
“May I ask if there is someone in the Ruan family named Ruan Xiaomian?”
Ruan Zhimian’s eyelashes trembled, and his eyes blinked frantically.
The scammer cat shook its head and denied firmly, “I haven’t heard of that name.”
Not at all! Really!
The Alpha’s knee pressed against the hem of the dress embroidered with dark black patterns, and his fingertip landed nonchalantly on the exquisite corset.
His fingers tightened, drawing the person closer into his embrace.
His right hand tilted the chin up, scrutinizing him to see if he was lying.
Ruan Zhimian was already nervous; he didn’t even notice how intimate the movements were. He even forgot to breathe. His misty, watery eyes looked at Shi He unblinkingly. The tips of his ears were already red through and through—he was a cat that had fallen into a trap, about to cry.
So beautiful, baby.
Want to kiss you.
Shi He let go of his hand methodically. He acted as if he didn’t believe Ruan Zhimian didn’t know Ruan Xiaomian. “I was suddenly called back to the country by my family and haven’t had time to tell my Mianmian. Young Master Ruan, please tell Mianmian for me that I like him very much and will come to find him in a few days.”
Luckily… he didn’t recognize me…
Shi He took a red velvet gift box from his suit pocket. “I am Shi He of the Shi family. I’ve come to deliver a birthday gift.”
Silly cat: “Didn’t you say you couldn’t tell me your name?”
The lid was lifted to reveal a watch made of sapphires. From the central dial to the strap, it was entirely carved and inlaid with sapphires and diamonds.
Just in terms of materials, it left Han He’an’s small gemstone necklace ten blocks behind.
“My Mianmian is very good; he wouldn’t say that.”
Shi He handed the box to him, sounding both polite and courteous. “Ruan Zhimian, happy birthday.”
Ruan Zhimian held the box, his soft dark eyes lowering as he watched Shi He’s departing back. He slowly squatted by the wall himself, reached out, and rubbed his bumped ankle.
My Mianmian… Ruan Zhimian…
There’s a big difference.
Ruan Zhimian limped into the lounge while leaning against the wall.
He sat on the sofa, took off his shoes, tidied his hem, and put his calves on the sofa. He lowered his eyes and peeled off his socks to look at the spot where his ankle had bumped. The snowy-white ankle was now clearly flushed.
It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt.
But why did he start crying?
At the entrance of the lounge, the Alpha, who had left and then returned, turned the doorknob. As soon as he opened the door, he saw the silly little cat hiding while hugging his knees and crying. A pair of watery eyes looked at him in confusion and helplessness, his small face red from crying as he messily wiped away his tears.
“I… wasn’t… crying…”
Shi He took out a handkerchief and wiped Ruan Zhimian’s tears. “Ruan Zhimian, does your foot hurt a lot?”
“A little.”
Most of Ruan Zhimian’s thin layer of makeup had been rubbed away by tears. Shi He picked up a makeup remover wipe from the table and gently removed his “wife’s” makeup.
“Ruan Zhimian, close your eyes.”
He quickly went from a lightly made-up kitten to a bare-faced kitten.
With that soft, obedient look, it felt like anything could be done to him.
Shi He hid his dark, gloomy expression. He went to wash his hands, then took some medicinal oil and carefully rubbed the injury on Ruan Zhimian’s ankle.
It wasn’t serious to begin with; after some rubbing, it soon stopped hurting.
Shi He retracted his hand, the soft texture of the skin lingering in his palm. “Rub it every day, and it will get better soon.”
Just then, Han He’an appeared at the door of the lounge.
He knocked, his tone in its usual “gentle” style. “Mianmian, I have no relationship with that Omega. Don’t believe him…”
Ruan Zhimian turned back, clutching the medicinal oil.
…
The moment the doorknob turned.
Shi He pulled Ruan Zhimian into the wardrobe beside them.
