Chapter 10: Do You Like Your Fiancé That Much?
Inside the narrow wardrobe, the sound of breathing was incredibly clear, and the air became thin.
The light was very dim, with only a faint glow coming through the cracks. Shi He nonchalantly lowered his head, his shadow looming over Ruan Zhimian from above. He ground his teeth and listened to the sounds outside along with Ruan Zhimian.
This angle was perfect for a kiss.
“Mianmian, don’t be angry anymore.”
Han He’an walked into the dressing room. He circled the room, calling out as he went, but didn’t find any trace of Ruan Zhimian.
Ruan Zhimian was always easy to coax; every time he was made angry, he would wait in a visible spot for him to come over.
Han He’an suddenly felt irritated. If his parents hadn’t called, he would have left long ago. Why would he need to avoid the crowd and sneak up here to find Ruan Zhimian?
Han He’an stopped by the sofa where Ruan Zhimian had just been sitting and saw the book on the table.
“Did he just leave?”
Baby, do you like a hypocritical person like Han He’an that much?
Even though he was this angry, he still didn’t have the thought of breaking off the engagement; he just wouldn’t see him.
Han He’an pulled out his phone and dialed again.
Ruan Zhimian’s phone had been turned off long ago, so he wasn’t worried.
However, he had one foot without a shoe, and he was currently standing on one foot in the corner of the wardrobe.
This wardrobe held many of Ruan Zhimian’s daily clothes. There was just enough space. Ruan Zhimian had secretly drunk two more glasses of white wine this afternoon to bolster his courage; as soon as he reached a confined space, his head felt a bit dizzy.
His fair fingers braced against the side of the cabinet to stand more steadily.
The Alpha before him reached out and encircled his waist with just enough pressure. A calm, raspy voice entered his ear as the distance between them suddenly closed.
“Don’t move.”
Ruan Zhimian’s misty, beautiful eyes looked up. The tips of his ears turned even redder, and his small face buried itself downward. His entire person was practically collapsed in Shi He’s embrace. Like a cat picked up by the scruff of its neck, he quickly became obedient and didn’t dare move a muscle.
Shi He’s deep, gloomy eyes slowly fell, and his fingertips rubbed against a gemstone sewn onto the formal dress. He seemed to smell a very light, faint scent of lily of the valley, and he suppressed the urge to pin the person down.
He was jealous.
When the door closed, Ruan Zhimian let out a soft sigh.
Except Han He’an didn’t leave. He guarded the door, as if certain Ruan Zhimian would return, and called his parents, saying, “I’m coaxing him…”
Ruan Zhimian and Shi He made eye contact.
Shi He let go of his hand. He pulled open the cabinet door, his handsome, superior features lowering slightly as he supported Ruan Zhimian’s arm with exceptional gallantry. He even had a hint of apology. “I thought you didn’t want to see him. If I did something wrong, I apologize to you.”
How could he blame Shi He?
He had to break up with Shi He soon; lying wasn’t good, and he felt too guilty.
Ruan Zhimian shook his head. He picked up the tablet in the lounge and sent a message to the butler saying he didn’t want to see Han He’an appear again today.
The little cat’s eyes were also sparkling. “Shi He, thank you today. You’ve helped me a lot.”
“Don’t mention it. It was a minor thing.”
In less than three minutes, Han He’an was led away by the butler and his men.
This time, Han He’an was taken away from the Ruan house directly in front of all the guests.
The scene was filled with hushed discussions, and for a moment, it was very lively.
Shi He had no reason to stay any longer and also left the lounge.
“The little young master of the Ruan family is truly good-looking.”
“What’s the use of being good-looking? A Beta can’t inherit the family business. In the future, he’ll still have to rely on the young master of the Han family to keep up appearances.”
“If you ask me, Ruan Jiarong and Chen Ji should have had another Alpha back then. They were a dual-Alpha family to begin with—who are they building such a huge family business for?”
In the hall, Teng Yu, who was drinking and chatting, stood up. He strode over, his red curls radiating defiance. He was feeling distressed for his Mianmian.
“What’s wrong with being a Beta? Do you Alphas and Omegas have the ability to be the young master of the Ruan family too?”
“Droning on for so long about a secondary differentiation gender—if you’re that bored, I can introduce you to some work.”
Teng Yu was practically pointing at people’s noses and scolding them. He was very… well, unrestrained.
The leader of the group was named Xu Yan, the third son of the Xu family. Usually, he couldn’t even squeeze into the circle Ruan Zhimian played in. He shouted back, “Do you know who I am? Who do you think you are?”
Teng Yu smiled slightly. “Unfilial son, I’m your father.”
At the entrance of the hall, a travel-worn Alpha appeared. Wearing a light gray trench coat, his aura was cold. He handed the gift in his hand to a servant, his voice crisp. “Teng Yu, talking so much—are you that idle?”
Ruan Zhimian’s cousin, Ruan Xubai.
Teng Yu turned back. “Ruan Xubai! Whose side are you on?”
Teng Yu had almost never seen Ruan Xubai lose his composure; he always acted like a rule-abiding old fogey.
The only exception was that one time two years ago when Teng Yu saw Ruan Xubai go mad with his own eyes.
Xu Yan didn’t know Teng Yu, but he did know Ruan Xubai. He said smugly, “It’s a party; it’s normal for everyone to talk and laugh.”
Ruan Xubai walked up to Xu Yan and delivered a clean, sharp slap.
The butler timely handed him a disinfectant wipe. Ruan Xubai wiped his hands and said indifferently, “Today, I’m teaching you a lesson on behalf of Old Master Xu. If you have a problem with what I just said, go back and ask your grandfather.”
Teng Yu gave a thumbs up. “…”
So that’s what it means.
Bodyguards stepped forward, covered the mouth, and carried him away.
All in one smooth motion.
Ruan Xubai looked at the crowd in the hall, radiating authority without being angry. “Today is my brother’s birthday. I don’t want any unpleasant words reaching his ears.”
“Those who can’t control their mouths and can’t do that can leave now.”
Ruan Xubai asked the butler, “Where is Mianmian?”
By the railing of the northern stairs on the second floor, Shi He held a glass of wine. His fingertip tapped the railing, his dark-sea-like phoenix eyes half-drooping. “Too light.”
He pulled out his phone and tapped a few times.
When he lifted his eyes again, the little cat—who had just changed clothes—appeared. Behind the white casual hoodie was a hood with two specially designed cat ears that drooped softly, moving with every step.
He had curving eyes as he hugged a gift, his smile bright and soft.
“Gege, you’re back.”
Ruan Xubai’s eyes showed tenderness. “Unwrap the gift later. Let’s cut the cake together first.”
Shi He walked down the stairs. He stood in the crowd a meter away, watching as the butler pushed the cake cart over.
It wasn’t a grand, luxurious fondant cake, but a cute cream kitten cake surrounded by a circle of delicate, beautiful lace frosting.
The lights in the hall dimmed, and candlelight was lit.
The birthday boy closed his eyes and made a wish, took the knife and fork, and carefully cut the cake.
Shi He closed his eyes, his heart seemingly trembling because of it.
Indeed, even after so many years, he still couldn’t look at a birthday cake.
The car accident many years ago when his mother was driving him out—the cause… was because they were going to pick up his birthday cake to celebrate his birthday.
Suddenly, a soft, warm voice spoke in his ear. “Shi He.”
The most beautiful, cutest little scammer cat walked up to Shi He holding a slice of cut cake.
“Let’s eat cake together.”
