Chapter 199
The waiter didn’t speak, only giving Shen Shuyu a look. Shen Shuyu climbed out from the trolley, and the waiter skillfully pulled the cart and left.
Shen Shuyu first looked at the three sleeping people. He had just exchanged some harmless sleeping powder with the System. The effect of the powder would only last about ten minutes, which was just about when the bodyguards were due to return.
Only then did Shen Shuyu turn his gaze to the other person. Wen Jiafei’s eyes were still closed; he didn’t seem to care much about what was happening in the room, nor was he curious as to why the noisy trio had suddenly gone silent.
Until he felt someone approaching him. The feeling was completely different from the waiter just now.
He opened his eyes warily, but the moment he saw the person standing before him, the guarded expression on his face dissolved instantly.
Someone he hadn’t dared to think of, yet desperately wanted to see, was standing right in front of him, looking at him with a beaming smile.
“You…” Wen Jiafei was stunned. Was he dreaming?
Or was it a hallucination born from his constant thoughts?
“Wen Jiafei, it’s me.” Shen Shuyu took a step forward. “I’m here.”
The moment Shen Shuyu’s words fell, he was pulled into a tight embrace by Wen Jiafei.
Shen Shuyu’s brain short-circuited for a split second. By the time he recovered, he was already surrounded by the scent of bitter orange.
Shen Shuyu chuckled lightly and patted his back. “Alright, I know you’ve been wronged. Didn’t I come for you?”
Wen Jiafei only held him even tighter.
He came.
He said he came.
Wen Jiafei felt that his heart was currently filled with Shen Shuyu’s presence. He didn’t want to let go; he wanted to leave with him.
Shen Shuyu also knew that Wen Jiafei was currently in an emotional state, but his time was very tight and didn’t allow for a proper reunion. He patted Wen Jiafei’s shoulder again. “Okay, let’s talk business first.”
Only then did Wen Jiafei manage to calm himself down and loosen his arms. He looked down slightly at Shen Shuyu’s face, his voice quite raspy. “How did you get here?”
Shen Shuyu, of course, glossed over the part about sensing that something was wrong. He said, “I’ll tell you the details next time. I came here on a trip with my parents and ran into your auntie; that’s how I found out something happened to you. Auntie is currently staying in the hotel diagonally across from here. Don’t worry, she’s safe, just very worried about you. After I see you tonight and tell her you’re safe, she’ll return to Amour.”
Wen Jiafei roughly understood. He recalled the gaze he had felt when getting off the elevator. “So just now, you saw me, didn’t you?”
Shen Shuyu nodded. “I’ve met with Ning Shan. He told me you would be here today.”
Wen Jiafei pursed his lips and nodded. Shen Shuyu asked again, “Why couldn’t I get in touch? Did they put you under house arrest?”
Wen Jiafei gave a hum. “After I arrived here, they took my terminal away.”
It was just as Shen Shuyu had guessed. He said, “What is your current situation? Do you want to leave?”
After asking this, Shen Shuyu clearly noticed Wen Jiafei go silent.
Shen Shuyu hesitated. “You don’t want to leave?”
“I do,” Wen Jiafei said. “But not now.”
Shen Shuyu didn’t understand what he meant. Wen Jiafei added, “Ning Bai is currently in the emergency room. Everyone is coveting the Ning family’s power, so…”
“So you’re thinking, if they can all get a piece of it, why can’t you? Right?” Shen Shuyu finished the sentence for him.
Wen Jiafei didn’t speak, but his silence was a tacit admission.
Wen Jiafei said, “Shuyu, I can’t explain to you why, but I want to obtain the Ning family’s power and wealth. This is something I should have, and something I must have.”
Although Shen Shuyu agreed with Wen Jiafei’s thinking—after all, the Ning family owed him and Wen Yue too much—he felt that today’s Wen Jiafei was somewhat different from the one he had known before.
However, there wasn’t much time to think now. He checked his watch; he had five minutes at most.
He spoke quickly, “Is there anything I can do for you? Or how should I contact you? I don’t have much time today; I have to leave soon.”
Wen Jiafei looked at Shen Shuyu with great surprise. He had thought that saying such things would lead to a lack of understanding from Shen Shuyu, but the other boy seemed to have accepted the reality instantly. Moreover, judging by his tone, he even wanted to help him.
Shen Shuyu said, “Listen to me, we won’t be able to finish talking today. Find a way to come to my hotel tomorrow night.”
He stuffed a pre-prepared note into Wen Jiafei’s hand. “I came today just to see your situation. As long as you aren’t hurt, it’s fine. I’ll be able to give your auntie an account when I go back.”
Wen Jiafei gripped the piece of paper in his palm. He asked hoarsely, “Why?”
Shen Shuyu gave a confused “Hmm?” “Why what?”
“Why help me?” Wen Jiafei stared intently into Shen Shuyu’s eyes, desperately needing an answer.
Shen Shuyu said, “We’re friends. Isn’t helping each other what friends do?”
Friends.
Hearing those two words made Wen Jiafei feel inexplicably irritable, but Shen Shuyu couldn’t be bothered with that now. He felt the terminal in his pocket vibrate; it was likely Ning Shan messaging him to urge him to leave.
Shen Shuyu said, “Alright, Wen Jiafei. If there’s anything else, we’ll sit down and have a proper talk tomorrow. My time is up; I have to go.”
After speaking, he remembered something and pointed to the three sleeping people. “They’ll wake up in a bit. It’s nothing serious.”
Only then did Wen Jiafei realize that his three nominal cousins hadn’t made a sound since Shen Shuyu entered.
Seeing Wen Jiafei’s lonely expression, Shen Shuyu took a deep breath and patted his shoulder. “Wen Jiafei, I’ll be waiting for you tomorrow. Don’t worry, I’ll always be on your side.”
Wen Jiafei wanted to say something but found himself unable to speak.
There was another knock at the door. The waiter had returned, as Shen Shuyu had arranged.
The waiter entered again with the trolley and closed the door. Shen Shuyu looked back at him and watched as he cleared the items from the trolley.
Shen Shuyu pursed his lips. “I’m off. See you tomorrow.”
He turned around in a hurry, but before he could take a step, his wrist was grabbed. Shen Shuyu looked back to see Wen Jiafei watching him silently.
Shen Shuyu turned back and gave the back of his hand a reassuring pat. “Don’t be afraid, Wen Jiafei. I’ll help you think of something when I get back.”
That wasn’t what he meant.
But Wen Jiafei couldn’t say it. He could only watch as Shen Shuyu pried his fingers away one by one, then walked toward the trolley without a backward glance and crawled underneath it with practiced ease.
Wen Jiafei hadn’t seen how he had arrived earlier, but seeing it now and realizing the method he had used to get in, a wave of intense anger surged in his heart.
How could Shen Shuyu suffer such an indignity for someone like him?
Wen Jiafei watched as the waiter pushed the trolley away. It shouldn’t be like this.
When Shen Shuyu approached this door, it should be done openly. Wherever he was, there should be no restrictions on Shen Shuyu.
Instead of curling up his body like this just to avoid causing him trouble.
Wen Jiafei took a deep breath, his hands clenched tightly at his sides, his knuckles turning white.
Shen Shuyu wouldn’t like him looking like this.
That thought suddenly popped into his head, and the ferocity on Wen Jiafei’s face vanished instantly.
He turned his head toward the three sleeping figures.
Three useless pieces of trash.
Wen Jiafei thought that it seemed he needed to speed up his own pace as well.
The waiter only stopped after leading Shen Shuyu to a safe area. Shen Shuyu climbed out from the trolley and said, “Thank you for today.”
The waiter smiled. “No need to thank me. I should be the one thanking you.”
Before going in just now, Shen Shuyu had ordered a bottle of fine wine in the waiter’s name. Because of that bottle, his commission for the night was quite substantial; he couldn’t stop smiling.
The waiter and Shen Shuyu parted ways, and Shen Shuyu prepared to look for Father and Mother Shen. Just then, the System, which had been quiet, suddenly spoke up: [Master…]
Shen Shuyu asked: [What is it?]
The System started hesitating again. Shen Shuyu said: [If you have something to say, say it.]
The System finally said: [Just now, I sensed the presence of another system.]
Shen Shuyu raised an eyebrow. He hadn’t expected to get an extra bonus just from seeing Wen Jiafei.
But in the next second, his smile vanished.
The System said: [I sensed that its host is… is Wen Jiafei.]
