Chapter 200
Shen Shuyu stopped abruptly in his tracks. The two bodyguards walking toward him noticed his strange behavior and immediately fixed their gaze on him, watching him with extreme wariness.
Shen Shuyu gave them a glance and walked toward the hall with perfect composure. Once back in the hall, he found a place to sit before questioning the System.
[You’re saying the host that external system found is Wen Jiafei? You aren’t mistaken, are you?] Shen Shuyu said rapidly. [How could it be Wen Jiafei?]
The System replied: [Master, I know it’s hard for you to accept, but when you went in just now, I sensed the fluctuations of that system.]
[It could have been one of the other three people,] Shen Shuyu argued logically. [We weren’t the only two in there at the time.]
[Master, my data doesn’t make mistakes,] the System stated. [It’s Wen Jiafei.]
Shen Shuyu went quiet, yet he still found it hard to believe. How could it be Wen Jiafei?
However, as he gradually calmed down, he also sensed something off from their meeting just now. The feeling Wen Jiafei gave him was indeed somewhat different from usual. If it was truly as the System had said before, the final end for a host parasitized by an external system would be very grim.
Shen Shuyu bit his lower lip. From the bottom of his heart, he was unwilling to see Wen Jiafei walk down a path that ended in total collapse.
[Was it also Wen Jiafei five years ago?] Shen Shuyu asked.
The System replied: [Logically, that should be the case, but we’re still investigating the specifics.]
Shen Shuyu frowned. He felt something was wrong somewhere, but he couldn’t pinpoint the problem.
If it had been Wen Jiafei five years ago, then why did Wen Jiafei’s path over those five years still follow the original plot? He remembered that Wen Jiafei’s character arc only changed after he transmigrated.
If the system had been on Wen Jiafei from the start, then according to the “characteristics” of an external system—it needs to suck energy from the host—there should have been a massive change in the host.
Shen Shuyu felt there was something they were overlooking.
Shen Shuyu said: [I feel this matter isn’t simple. Hurry up and find out who it was five years ago. As for Wen Jiafei… should I try asking him tomorrow?]
The System replied: [Master, I think we should avoid alerting the enemy for now and see what exactly that external system wants to do. Also, unless it’s absolutely necessary, it’s best not to reveal our true identity.]
The thought of a time bomb being on Wen Jiafei made Shen Shuyu feel irritable, but he also knew this matter couldn’t be rushed. He composed himself. [Fine. Then I won’t ask tomorrow, but you need to investigate this thoroughly as soon as possible.]
The System hummed in agreement and immediately went offline to investigate.
Shen Shuyu leaned back against the sofa. The system, Wen Jiafei.
No matter how he thought about it, it was hard to link them together.
He let out a heavy sigh and heard some noise. He looked up slightly toward the sound; it was Wen Jiafei and the others coming out.
This time, Wen Jiafei walked at the very front, followed by only two bodyguards.
He appeared very calm, but in reality, his gaze was rapidly searching his surroundings until he saw that familiar figure sitting quietly not far away.
Shen Shuyu also happened to look toward him. Their gazes met in mid-air. A hint of a smile appeared in Wen Jiafei’s eyes. He gave Shen Shuyu a look, indicating that he was about to leave.
Shen Shuyu nodded slightly and mouthed the words: See you tomorrow.
Wen Jiafei blinked: Okay.
The elevator arrived, and Wen Jiafei stepped inside. When he turned back, Shen Shuyu was still sitting in the same place, watching him.
Wen Jiafei’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He found that he really liked this—being watched quietly by Shen Shuyu.
He liked it very much.
The next day, Father and Mother Shen went out with their friends again. Their itinerary on Planet Siro wasn’t long; they were scheduled to head back tomorrow afternoon.
Shen Shuyu still needed to think of a reason to stay here for a few more days. After all, Wen Jiafei’s situation couldn’t be resolved today or tomorrow.
Sitting in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, Shen Shuyu let out a slow sigh. Things were getting more and more complicated.
He checked the time; lunch was almost due. Just as Shen Shuyu was about to pick up the room phone to order lunch from the hotel, he heard a noise from the small balcony.
Thinking the window wasn’t closed tightly, Shen Shuyu put down the phone and was about to go check when someone walked in from the balcony.
“Wen Jiafei?” Shen Shuyu’s eyes widened. He said in shock, “How did you get here?”
Wen Jiafei replied nonchalantly, “I climbed in.”
Climbed in?! He was on the 10th-plus floor! How could he just “climb in”?
While Shen Shuyu was reeling in shock, Wen Jiafei approached him and said, “I opened a room next door. My balcony and yours are connected.”
Last night, he had used a scheme to get someone to help him check the layout of this hotel. Coincidentally, the Ning family held shares in this hotel, so he had obtained the room floor plan quite easily. Thus, he had come early this morning to book a room.
Then, by using some minor tactics, he had the guest next to Shen Shuyu move out. However, because the hotel needed to clean the room, he only arrived this late; otherwise, he would have come early in the morning.
Seeing Shen Shuyu not speaking, Wen Jiafei asked, “What’s wrong? You aren’t talking.”
Shen Shuyu recovered. “Nothing. I was just too shocked. It’s dangerous. You could have told me; I could have talked to you on the balcony just as well.”
A few hints of a smile appeared in Wen Jiafei’s eyes. “It’s fine. Jumping balconies doesn’t pose a threat to me.”
Shen Shuyu told him to find a place to sit down, then called the hotel to order two meals.
After ordering the food, Shen Shuyu turned around to find Wen Jiafei touring his room.
Shen Shuyu said, “The room layouts are all the same; there’s nothing much to see. Come and sit.”
Wen Jiafei gave him a glance and sat down across from him.
He looked at Shen Shuyu and said, “I haven’t seen you in a long time. Did you have fun on your trip?”
“I had quite a good time,” Shen Shuyu said. “But I didn’t expect such a major event to happen to you.”
Wen Jiafei gave a hum.
Shen Shuyu said, “After I saw you yesterday, I told your auntie about your situation. She returned to Amour this morning.”
He took out his terminal. “Give her a call to tell her you’re safe; she’s very worried about you.”
“I didn’t know she came,” Wen Jiafei said softly. “Actually, I sent her a message in a hurry before I left, telling her not to worry.”
Wen Jiafei took Shen Shuyu’s terminal. Shen Shuyu’s terminal wasn’t locked; he clicked on the messaging app, and the top contact was Wen Yue.
Shen Shuyu said, “Auntie told me, but she couldn’t get in touch with you and was very worried. I only found out about your situation after I ran into her.”
Wen Jiafei raised his eyes slightly and pursed his lips. “I’m really sorry for interrupting your vacation.”
Shen Shuyu let out a sigh. “Why are you saying that out of the blue? And that’s not what I meant.”
Wen Jiafei pressed the button for a video call with Wen Yue. Shen Shuyu also fell silent, waiting for Wen Jiafei to tell her he was safe.
Shen Shuyu was supposed to see Wen Yue off this morning, but she had said she would go back on her own and insisted that he didn’t need to see her off. Fortunately, Wen Yue had sent Shen Shuyu a message as soon as she arrived in Amour.
The video call was picked up after a few seconds.
Wen Jiafei’s thin lips moved. “Mom.”
Wen Yue’s eyes went a bit red. “It’s good that you’re okay.”
Wen Yue had already picked up Meimei. After chatting with Wen Jiafei for a while, she hung up the video.
Throughout the call to report his safety, Wen Yue didn’t mention the Ning family once, but mother and son both knew perfectly well.
Wen Jiafei lowered his eyes and was about to return the terminal to Shen Shuyu when his peripheral vision caught a familiar avatar pinned at the very bottom.
Shen Xili. They had also chatted yesterday.
Although he knew Shen Xili was the true young master of the Shen family, seeing Shen Shuyu and Shen Xili in close contact still made a seed of jealousy sprout in his heart.
The fact that Shen Xili was the Young Master Shen was true, but the fact that he had seen Shen Xili kiss Shen Shuyu was also true.
He slowly tightened his grip until Shen Shuyu called him back to his senses. Only then did he release his hold on the terminal and hand it back.
Shen Shuyu said, “Now that you’ve reported your safety, let’s talk. What exactly is going on?”
