Extra Chapter
On a summer afternoon, sunlight spilled across the room in a boundless golden wash. The classroom was a cacophony of noise, save for a boy sitting in the very last row, quietly immersed in his studies.
The hand he used to hold his pen was beautiful—pale, slender, and exceptionally pleasing to the eye. His features were strikingly gorgeous, yet because his expression was so earnest and focused, it lent him an aura that felt translucent and pure.
Almost all his classmates, caught in their own boisterous play, couldn’t help but pause when they saw him out of the corners of their eyes. They watched him, intentionally or otherwise, yet no one stepped forward to disturb him.
That was until a soft clack broke the silence.
Busy solving problems, Bai Qi had accidentally knocked his marking pen off the desk.
Just as he was about to lean over to pick it up, a girl sitting nearby acted with lightning speed to help him. Her ears flushed a deep red as she looked at Bai Qi and said, “Here.”
“Thank you,” Bai Qi replied, his voice soft and airy. When his petal-shaped eyes looked over, it felt as though one could drown in them.
The girl’s face turned even redder. She managed a quick “it’s nothing” before scurrying back to her group of friends, where she was teased mercilessly by those around her.
Zheng Ao, who had just entered the classroom and sat in the seat directly in front of Bai Qi, watched this scene and sighed helplessly. “I’m speechless. Even the fact that Teacher Qin moved you to your own corner in the last row didn’t help.”
“Hmm?” Bai Qi looked up blankly, not catching his meaning.
Accustomed to this, Zheng Ao didn’t bother explaining. Instead, he couldn’t wait to share some gossip. “Do you know what I just saw at the school gate? A super cool black luxury car! Even the Principal went out to meet it. I heard a transfer student is coming.”
As soon as he said this, the surrounding students couldn’t help but gasp in surprise.
Their school was quite mediocre; what wealthy person would come here? For them, someone who could afford a luxury car felt like a distant existence from another world. Besides, who transfers schools during their third year of high school?
For a moment, everyone was excited. Amidst the flurry of discussion, only Bai Qi refrained from joining in. He continued to keep his head down and write, though his pen pressed a bit harder against the paper.
He hoped they wouldn’t transfer into their class.
As the start of class approached, students filed in until the room was full. The noise continued, with almost everyone discussing the newcomer.
Soon, the homeroom teacher, Teacher Qin, entered and announced a major piece of news: “We have a new student joining our class. I hope everyone can be welcoming and give them a proper greeting.”
Holy crap!
The classroom instantly erupted. The “melon” they had been munching on all afternoon had actually landed in their class. High schoolers were restless by nature, and such a fresh development had them howling with excitement, demanding the transfer student come in.
Teacher Qin stepped out briefly and led the transfer student inside.
As a tall, thin silhouette entered, the classroom fell into a sudden, dead silence.
Bai Qi also looked up. Across the clamorous crowd, he saw a pair of deep black eyes—cold, distant, and utterly devoid of emotion.
Teacher Qin looked at the rare silence of the classroom with satisfaction. He turned and said kindly, “Everyone here is easy to get along with. Please introduce yourself.”
The boy was exceptionally handsome. In a slightly cold, calm voice, he said, “Bo Yan.”
The voice was like a low-frequency stone dropping against their eardrums. Only then did the classroom snap out of its long daze, and the place completely exploded.
Many students even turned back to look at Bai Qi, unable to believe there was another boy on the same level of handsomeness.
Teacher Qin frowned at the noisy exclamations. He shouted for silence several times to no avail, so he simply pointed to the empty seat next to Bai Qi. “You can sit there for now. We’ll make do with this, and I’ll find a chance to move you later.”
He had originally wanted to arrange a seat in the first row, but the transfer student was simply too tall. Sitting in the front would block everyone else’s view of the blackboard, and currently, there was only one empty seat in the class.
Only then did Bo Yan shift his gaze to the furthest corner of the classroom.
Almost everyone saw it—the ice-cold transfer student seemed to freeze. He stared blankly for a long while.
By now, Bai Qi had already withdrawn his gaze. He lowered his head and wrote nervously, his mind feeling a bit blank.
It wasn’t until the sound of footsteps approached that the boy sat down beside him.
Logically, such a tall boy should have taken up a lot of space, but Bai Qi didn’t feel crowded. Instead, his nose caught a very clean scent.
It was cool and crisp, somewhat like the fragrance of a pine forest in winter. it smelled wonderful, yet it carried a certain sense of aggression. Perhaps it was simply that Bai Qi wasn’t used to being so close to someone else.
Bai Qi pursed his lips, his entire body stiff and uncomfortable.
After a while, his frantic gaze finally drifted toward the boy.
The boy wasn’t looking at him. Instead, he had his eyes lowered as he unzipped his backpack. The skin on the back of his hand was a cold white, like a layer of inorganic glaze, possessing a type of icy beauty.
Unlike the image of a shiftless second-generation rich kid, he was orderly and focused. He had his books, pens, and paper—not a single item missing—and he arranged them neatly on the desk.
He had a tall frame and broad shoulders. The desk was so narrow that nearly half his body was technically outside of it, yet he showed no sign of crowding Bai Qi.
Bai Qi’s eyelashes fluttered; he was a bit surprised.
Class soon began. Bo Yan listened attentively and studied hard. He even answered the teacher’s questions concisely and appropriately; he was clearly a top student.
Bai Qi always had a “positive bias” toward people who were hardworking, serious, and quiet. He felt that those devoted to their studies wouldn’t go around bullying people.
Bo Yan… He silently memorized the name.
As the two most eye-catching people in the room, neither of them spoke a word throughout the period; they both listened to the lecture in silence.
Students constantly turned back to steal glances. Some wanted to “ship” them, while others just wanted to see a scene, but what they saw without exception were the silhouettes of two people studying.
Consequently, even though the two hadn’t said a single word to each other from beginning to end and hadn’t even made eye contact, the atmosphere was unexpectedly harmonious.
This lasted until the bell rang to end the class.
Bai Qi was the Chinese Class Representative and had to go to the office to deliver some papers. He looked at Bo Yan beside him and finally spoke the first words between them: “Excuse me, would you mind letting me through?”
His voice was so thin and soft, like a gentle breeze, that it made one’s ears tingle.
Bo Yan’s cold, handsome face softened slightly. He moved aside to make a path for him.
Bai Qi whispered a “thank you” and hurried out.
As he passed, the sweet fragrance from Bai Qi’s body drifted into Bo Yan’s nose. From his angle, he could see a patch of snowy, tender skin on the back of the boy’s neck.
Bo Yan’s pale Adam’s apple rolled. He lowered his head to look at his own notes.
He hadn’t listened to a single thing during the entire lesson. His notes were filled with nothing but the two words: Bai Qi.
Translator’s Note: And that’s the true ending! What a journey it has been with Bai Qi and Bo Yan. This extra chapter takes us back to where it all truly began—the very first moment they met in high school.
It’s so sweet to see that Bo Yan was a “lovestruck fool” from the very first second! Thank you all for following along with this translation. It’s been a pleasure bringing you this story. Until next time, stay safe and warm~
